Yep we are ripp off capital of the world.
Oour petrol ( gasoline to the americans) is just under £1 per litre, some places it is over the £1 mark, so that would mean about $1.90 or thereabouts per litre to the americans.
we pay a few thousand extra for our cars too cpmpared with europe.
We pay about £112 per year just to watch the basic channels on tv. If we want cable/sattelite then at least £10 extra per month.
In Scotland we are the biggest for distilling whisky yet we can buy it cheaper abroad.
for cigarettes that are made in london smokers pay about £5 per pack of 20, go to france get the same brand ofr a few quid cheaper. ( but i tihnk thye should be £10 per pack)
people cannot even afford to die here, the government tax you on that too lol

it does always look better in that format roger but ye know why I dont always post songs like that? Means I have to spend extra time changing it on my word document, then I have to change it back again so it is easy to read instead of chords in brackets half way thru a word.
Just had a thought though. Maybe I could create a new folder with duplicate songs? one in the chordie pro format thingy and one with the way I like it.
choices!!!

Ok,
I have taped me doing this but will take a while. I am going to experiment on video making.
I am going to see if I can now record it on the studio, put some extra vocals over the top and maybe the mandolin or uke ( wish I could play the violin) thats the easy part. Hard part is trying to do this and put the video on with my lips moving in time to the recorded version as well as a few clips of me with the mandolin.
I will spend a few hours on this today hopefully, if not today it will have to wait a few weeks. I dont want that so must do it today.

Also, since I was drinking the other night when I wrote down chords for this, I have no idea how I was playing it so I think I have change it slightly again, lol. Not much though.

Ken

i am amazed this topic is still going.
i agree with the last post the Jerome posted.
we should keep the herd togther or they will get out of control and start dictating things to adults, the people that are suppose to be rearing them.
Oh yeah, they have started that already havnt they?
20 years time from now the world will be a worse place to live

I might write a song about this if I remember

Rebel.
I think I have said this once or twice, and what I am going to say has nothing to do with the half botttle of wine I am currently going thru just now ( got another bottle after I finish this one, lol)
But, I love this song. It may just be one of the best ones I have played from reading other people's songs ( and I have done a few and forgetten a few)
this song is a simple easy superb song. Lyrics are just the dogs bollocks ( for anyone that doesnt know dogs bollocks is really good)
So good I am keeping this. i am not too sure how a willie sort of neslon way this should be played but I was thinking of a sort of american folky country feel to it and I am saving this and going to record this thru the weekend.
I have made some chords up for it and changed a word or two ( hope you dont mind) to suit me singing it better. Nothing wrong with the way you wrote it. It is just hard sometimes to think of how someone esle wants it to actually sound.
thank you for posting this. When I record it I will let you be the first to hear it on my bebo or youtube page. I might do it youtube with me instead of one of my " getting predictable" videos, lol.

cheers

I've wasted too much paper
C                                               G
Tryin' to write a song that  won't come
C                            F
Seems I've lost my way
C                  G                 C
To wherever songs come from
But if I was a little sadder
Or if I hear a voice inside my mind
Would it  remind who I was
and who I am this time,

CHORUS
G                            C
Then I would write a sad song,
                  G                             C
That would make the whole world cry,
         G                      C  ( stop strumming)
Then maybe I'd feel better
F           G        C            ( strum each chord once then go into rythum on C)
And could go back to getting by

This pen that I'm holding
Just won't turn out no more songs
I'm sure if I'm just up too late
Or if my blues are finally gone
But if I could just remember
Everything I want to say
Or all the feelings I'd forgotten
About my younger days

Hi,
yep the chilis were original in ways.
I have all their albums, red hot chili peppers ( the album and freaky styely were out in early 80's,
What made them original was the way the bass was played, a funky lead bass rythum and their unusual way of writing songs.
Uplift is my favourite chilis album, but some of my favourite songs from them come from freaky and their self named album.

thanks James and Roger.
I knew it was called that james but I have never called it by that name. The two John Prine albums I have call it " blow up your TV" Although a dvd I have of him it is called spanish pipedream.

Roger,
You really do have to get a John Prine Album, his songs are just so good. Especially his lyrics.

I would recommend Great days, a double cd. It has all his best songs up to Early 90's or mid 90's or "lost dogs" album from 95 or 96 I tihnk.

A song I am learning just now of his just for the lyrics is " please dont bury me" it starts off

woke up this morning, put on my slippers
walked in the kitchen and died.

Now how good are those two lines? Just as good as the line James mentioned about the topless lady had something up her sleeve.
Roger if you download any mp3s legally ( not that many do these days, lol) go for,
"spanish pipedream" aka blow up your tv
illegal smile
hello in there
sam stone
aint hurtin nobody
please dont bury me
paradise
grandpa was a carpenter

geez oh, the list could go on and on ,lol

I got this idea based on a guy I know from years ago when he was 19. Most of the story is made up, he was never found out by the police but he felt so bad when he found out the next day her real age. This is about how young girls look older than they are and go to pubs, they might look old enough plastered wit hmake up but still sound like young girls and after a few drinks a guy would find it hard to tell the age or just doesnt care?
It is played quite slow. If it is played fast it sounds just like " blow up your T.V"

Only 15

G                                                            C
She had the curves of a woman but the mind of a child
   D                                                                            C                          G
Her hair was dyed wore make up on her eyes her nails were neatly filed
She wore a mini skirt that sat upon her thigh
Wore the best of clothes with a stuck up nose with looks you couldn’t buy

Chorus
C
She was only 15
                   G
How were you suppose to know
She was only 15
And now you feel so low
F
Only 15
         C
but she didn’t mind
F                   C                         G
Only 15 for her you will do time

You met her in a bar full of adults wine and beer
After a few something grew it was only her voice in your ear
Her friend left her alone in your capable hands
She smelt like honey though your nose was runny and you listened to the band

Chorus

Break
C   C   C   C  D  C   C    C    C   D    C    C   C  C   G

Your friends they all told you that she was quite a catch
You felt so good and she talked so rude she was the perfect match
So you took her back to your place and put the kettle on
She grabbed you by the arm showed some charm you didn’t know it was wrong

Next morning she was gone as you lay in bed with a smile
Then a chap at the door you fell to the floor and you lay there a while
A voice from the other side said “it’s the police, let us inâ€
You’re going down to the station in town for committing a terrible sin

She was only 15
How were you suppose to know
She was only 15
And now you feel so low
Only 15 She said she didn’t matter
Only 15 but you’ve never met her father

cheers james,
I love that song in its full rawness. My mate was wanting me to do that properly but I cannot see how that can be improved, lol. If you try to improve it from that it will sound wrong!!

That song is very heavily influenced by Syd barrett.
And the point of me doing that was so others can see it like you and think " if he can do that, I can do something". It doesnt have to be perfect in any way.
Someone else can take it and make it sound better if they really wanted to.
Like I said a few times before about David Bowie's demo for " ziggy stardust" ,it is awful, but it got taken onboard and made into a classic song.
So no song is bad.

I am glad  i motivated you to do stuff. Even if  i only inspired one person slightly, the songs I do are worth it.

I dont thin kthere is anyone I would say I do not like on this site. Some annoy me sometimes but then my wife annoys me too but I stay with her lol I am a very easily annoyed person but no one has annoyed me that much I feel like I am not going to come in on a daily basis.

thanks to all the members that make me want to come back in even just to read what they are typing.

very true Craig,
Why did I not mention them? also the Alarm  ithink are underestimated everywhere too.

Phil,
heard mama and papas, like the song.
And I think people are disapointed if they dont get famous in USA because it is so big. If you conquor USA you have a good name as you will have so many fans. I thin kthat is why bands want success in USA so much and who can blame them? if they want bigger then do it in a big place. Usa is the biggest piece of ground that speak english and probably mostly only listen to english singing, whereas in europe ye've got all sorts of languages and singing and different instruments.
Also Japan!! bands want to make it big there too. No idea why, their first language is not even scottish, lol or english.

I just want to make it big in the hills of scotland, that will do me.  iam going to try and do a tour next year of about 10 different bothies. And I dont even charge anyone to see me, I do it for the music, the enjoyment, the pleasure, the satisfaction, the whisky, the sore head in the morning the..... the...... did I mention fun?

I cannot think of any dumb songs I play unless you include some syd barrett songs like Bike, effervessing elephant, the gnome, love you, dark globe, if its in you ( even with all the out of tune notes see me on youtube doing this)
but I dont see these songs as dumb songs but  ireally can see why some uneducated in the barrett way would se them as stupid never mind dumb, lol

I dont think I play better due to chordie but  i suppose it has helped me in a way.
They say they more you play the better you get. Well I have been getting songs from chordie for ages now,
I am not exactly sure when Chordie started But I am sure I first printed off my first song from Chordie a bout 3 or 4 years ago at least. ( has chordie been around this long?or do I just think has has been?)
So I have been playing a lot more as I have a lot lot lot more songs thanks to chordie.

so yeah, my playing has improved, Had advice from the forum, gave advice, read other peoples advice and acted on it.
Said before, great site and should be nominated for next years website award.
with the amount of members, whether they come in the forum or not, We should all vote.

hi secret, welcome to the chordie forum and chordie itself

The song you are looking for is a buddy hollly song but more famous for doing it I thin kis the rolling stones.
It is called "not fade away". Also made famous by the scotch video tapes in the 80's. lol

you will find the stones' version here

I thought of this before for on Chordie but Per was saying he is making a new web site for folk to put their own songs on. No idea yet when the launch of this new site will be but it will be another one on my high priority sites t ovisit every day,lol

Al,
I have tons of lyrics but I fond myself farting around wit hthe guitar and chord progressions, once i have a few chords together that sounds like it can be good for a verse I start making up lyrics to go along wit hthe chords.
Now, what do you sing about? anything!! think of a subject that you know a lot about or a little and write down your thoughts or sing them along to the chords.
Sometimes they do not work but write them down anyway, you might be able to rearrange them later in the song for another verse or bridge or chorus.
I normally do
Verse Verse, chorus, verse, chorus
break , verse ,chorus

or

Verse choris, verse chorus break chorus verse chous

anything you are happy with is fine. If it is a really catchy chorus then use it more. If it is long and not so catchy, dont sing it between every verse.

Thats what i try and do anyway

I dont read.

I have not got the patience to sit and read a book, I like watching films.

But I have read a couple of books.
the story of the rolling stones.
LOst in the woods   About the life of Syd Barrett, even if yer not into syd, this is a book that tells you a lot about the sixties and the london scene. superb book.

ermmm ,scottish history, I read quite a bit of that..

Errmm. I do read thinking of it ,lol ,just not a lot.
Biographies and history I like.
