Mister Johnny Winter!!!!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9j25V4iw94

EDITED TO ADD: I don't think Johnny cared as much for the lyrics as for his playing - on some stuff -. He seems to rush the words in favor of his lead blues guitar playing. I think that's why he never got on as much in the late 70's as Edgar did. Sure was nice seeing him in concert in Minot, ND (where I was stationed, though).

Listen to this one. Sounds like he's reading words.

But that's okay. He rocked us in the 70's and further on!

I guess that's why we name them, isn't it?

I get it, punkrawker, and I am sorry you had to go through that.

All the best and post more often! Especially if you can teach me to chord B and B7 without my wife calling the ambulance!  wink

Wow! Thanks TO one of the "Charles Atlases" of music  I so fortunately found here. smile And I mean that, you guys are ALL great at what you do! It would be an honor to drum or play rhythm for any of you!

Ya know, easy (can I call you that?), I always seem to miss the obvious stuff. Occam's Razor would make me a self-sacrifice trying to shave with it.

But here's the thing: I don't know why, my Kiwi friend....... but sometimes the ideas come at me so fast, I can't reel them all in, and that sucks soooooo bad.  THEN.......... I hit a "desert"........and forget about the stuff I did manage to "reel in". And then they're gone!

But hey! I'm havin' a GREAT time with my INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS who just happen to be great musicians. WHat a great thing to happen to an old batguano guy like me, huh!

I sit in front of this damn screen just about 24-7, and there's nowhere I'd rather be than in my wife's arms, but as she's sleeping so  peacefully right now, after her rough time, I confine the both of us doing the "Horizontal Bop" to the daytime......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIL82XwYO8A

Oh yeah. Forgot to tell y'all. You are NOT allowed to tap your feet to that song!!!!! smile

Thanks, Mr. easybeat for the kind and supportive words. You might like to know I have them Post-Itted to my screen.

Your friend

Bill

Note to our Amy: You're not gonna tell Dondra I called lovemaking "The Horizontal Bop", are ya?

Hell, Doug,

I've skydived; I've ridden cross country on my Trek1000 (VERY cheap road bike at $700.00) twice and twice almost got killed by 18 wheelers; helped run a guy by the name of Newt Gingrich for State Representative and my best friend for Mayor of our hometown. I've addressed United States Senators about the need for funds for Alzheimer's Research and been here and there.

AT 65, the only thing left I wanna do is smoke some cigarettes. Most of my career as a respiratory therapist, I've preached against smoking, but then I put on the skids when a guy who couldn't get the air out of his lungs, and was about to be put on a ventilator by me, asked to go out for one last cigarette. I let him. He came back got in bed and promptly went into respiratory arrest. I Put a tube down his trachea (hard to see due to the black tar residue), connected him to the vent, but he had smoked too long, and we just couldn't help him. 1990, this was.

Long story short, the family sued the hospital, the doctor and last but not least, me. It was settled out of court, and, after being called onto the carpet by the hospital board and being allowed to explain, I kept my job. One board member, an obvious smoker, clapped me on the shoulder and whispered, "If I'm ever that way, please let me smoke that one last one."

So since that time, until the rest of my career which almost ended in the death of another patient which could have been caused by me due to the dementia, I have promised myself never to tell another adult not to smoke again. Kids under 18? Different story.

People ask me, "But what about the uneducated adults, Bill?"

What "uneducated" adults? Those in the deep Brazilian jungles? Those on the Moon? Every adult by now knows it hurts your body to inhale nicotine and tar. What am I  going to teach them? I think I know how hard it must be to come off of those things, but I refuse to insult someone's intelligence by parroting. "Ya know those things are gonna kill ya!" They know it.

So. Back to the meds, right? Doug my friend, after all of that, some little pill's not going to scare me. Hell, get me off this screwed up planet before I die not being able to get my breath. I'd rather float away as a wisp of air than to endure what we on this poor Earth have done to our home.

Yeah! I wanna smoke when I get close, so I can get that "high" everyone talks about, and then I wanna take LSD and explore that. As long as I am a provider for my sweet wife and cat, you can count on me NOT to do that, but one day, near the end, I might.

Now Doug! What did you just do????? smile smile

You caused me to write an autobiography when all I wanted to do was respond to your response!;) wink

Sorry for the length, everyone, but I couldn't stop 'em (fingers and brain) this time.

Love Y'all

I read every word and as I always say. "You've been reading my mail" --- Kris Kristofferson.

I really like the tone of the song, it seems to build and build until you get to the final verse, when you tell her, obliquely, that you love her. Yeah, I see this with a Latino-Jazz flavor, but I can't get away from the thoughts that it is free-verse as well. I think embellishing the song with some Latin guitar will present it quite nicely. You're gonna need some augmented, demented, fragmented chords in there in that case. smile

Disclaimer: What I say don't mean batguano, but I like the tune.:)

Is that it is always in spurts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDUv0v0UxSQ  (sorry no music. Just this for effect)

But this time I think I'm on to something

Please read the story of Ol' 88 and the cigarette train crash which happened close to where we live.

==============================================================

This excerpt is taken from their Government- Historical page:

"On October 18, 1903, "Ole 88" Engine 345, jumped the
tracks and tore down part of the Pumpkinvine Creek Trestle.  Pumpkinvine Creek Trestle, which was originally built in 1901, was rebuilt after the accident. The trestle is over 750 feet long and towers 126 feet above Pumpkinvine Creek. The trestle was restored in 1999 and now serves as part of the Silver Comet Trail."

===========================================

What isn't mentioned was what "Ole 88" was a-haulin'. Can you guess?

Right. Cigarettes.

When folks heard about the wreck and the cargo, they got on whatever vehicles they had at the time and hauled up to the trestle, where the whole place was covered in ----- cigarettes.

They began to loot those coffin nails until the land around the wreck except for the locomotive and the freight cars was spotless.

But that's not the end of the story, naw suh.

Somewhere, sometime, somehow a legend was born. It's not backed up by any facts or figures, but the story goes that the reason so many people in and around Paulding County died of lung cancer was they didn't begin smoking until they got a hold of some "o'them cigarettes" from the train wreck. Hell, they were free and I guess in those days it was much easier to get hooked on them because they were stronger (no filter), but I can't say for certain.

===========================================

Okay. Thanks for reading, I know it was kinda long.

===========================================

Here's what I have so far trying to turn this into a song:

===========================================

Well, Ol' 88 had started out late

Chuggin' towrd the Paulding County line                                         (I ran "toward" together there to make it fit the meter of the song)

Ol' Charlie hit the bottle and then he hit the throttle

Cause he knew that he could make it on time

==========================================

And that's it. That's all I got, my friends. Now, here's how you can help me: I don't want you to write the song for me, I want you to help me write it, by asking me stuff about the train wreck. Examples: "Where did it leave from, Bill?" - Atlanta. "Time?" - Don't know....... that kinda stuff.

Monday I also have the added responsibility of calling the Georgia Railroad Historical Society to get the facts straight, 'cause we sure don't want "Ol' Charlie" to be drunk when he wasn't, do we? smile

Whatcha all think?

Thanks as always for your kind assistance!

Never mind, I just googled it and it is possible, of course you may not want to let it run all night unless you trade out now and then. I think we can post every 30 seconds. Don't worry, I'll keep my motormouth in control!

Good Luck with it

Bill

EDITED TO ADD: I meant that if you kept answering questions, y'all wouldn't be able to "musicate" with each other. (I made that word up just for your event smile : ) ). So of course let it run and let us be peeping Bills or something. smile

EDITED TO ADD: OK, I'll "shut up". It's y'all's event and you run it the way [i]you[i] wanna run it. smile smile smile Sometimes....sometimes, I just should keep my big-trap fingers off the kb. PEBKAC. wink

smile smile Thanks, Doug. I just slept a couple of hours and woke up at 1:00 am. So it's not as bad as it was, thanks. I forgot to tell you - thinking it's my windows firewall I went to services and disabled it. Apparently it wasn't the firewall because it's still doing it, so I'm gonna try what you said.

I've been going to the "short-cut" icons on the desktop, so I guess that's what's bringing up those family protection thingies.

I just went into google security and futzed around there, so I will see if that helped the problem. If not, I wrote down what I did.

Thanks Doug! smile
