Nice stories Tops and DJ!
Jeff, being alone down there I'm sure having the ladies for a visit was a bit like feeling at home. I'm glad for you that you were able to entertain, and visit with some kind and grateful people. I'm sure you enjoyed it just as much as they did! Wonderful!
Instead of the metronome you could try playing along to a recording of the song as well. In audacity, you can actually slow songs down and speed them up. Mind you, everything is going to sound funny if you do this, but it isn't about their sound at this point, it's about yours. Good luck Nao!
FANTASTIC! I commented on "yourTube"
Nice Russell! I commented on FB!
note to self: Chordie was a great place to begin my guitar journey, and a fab place to continue it. The people here are kind, and fairly non-judgemental. I love Chordie and the Chordie members especially. Thank the members for the kind reminder.
DJ - Thank you very much for the kind reminder of WHY I love Chordie so much! I think it's a GREAT story, and absolutely nothing at all to debate or argue over. I'm happy for that guy.
LOVELY! I'm glad for you Zurf, and I'm sure that guit will treat ya right! I'm excited to hear it, especially with the rig up you're going to attempt Sunday. Can't wait!!!
Sorry to hear about all the additional troubles Butch. Our thoughts are with you for a speedy recovery!!!!

It IS possible some of the folks on the other side of the pond may be awake at that time
Well it seems that Ill be working sunday night 330-midnight Ctl time. ill lookinto a deacent webcam tomorrow though and try out the skype. how much is the premium? I cant even get the info on my puter at work,,,I mostly do my posting on chordie from here LOLOLOL
Don't worry about the premium. Get the webcam, get a free skype membership, and download the current version of skype free. There just has to be ONE person with a premium membership on the call for everyone to view one another's cams. So, as long as you are joining in while I'm there... you're good!

Nice! Thanks Nao... after the first one played my youtube went into playing random music and I just kept listening while going about my daily chordie/facebook morning check (with coffee). I then heard the begining chops on this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpUVDuVu … 73LBQGg%3D and had to switch over to youtube. Dude is not great on the looks, but his voice is just... perfect with his playing. So I give you back a treat.
Glad you got on for a few JX3! I resent you a contact request as well. Because I have a Skype premium membership, that means I am the one that "hosts" the call. So it's easiest if I already have everyone's contact info before the call begins. I then just ring you all at the same time, and can easily add you to a call if you come on later. This goes for everyone. So make sure you send me a request in skype... and if you come on after we've all joined, just send me a quick instant message via skype and I'll add you into the call. I do think others can add people in too though as long as they're already on the call.
I updated the first post to reflect past gatherings and the time for the next one. Sunday 2-5 EST. See ya'll then!!!!
Nice story! Either the guy had talked to some people that know guitars already, or he just had funny money to throw around. Either way, I imagine the guitar journey starting out on a fine instrument like that will be easier to start as well as continue than the $200 bangers we all started with! Good for him! And good for you too! My kids get frustrated when I talk to strangers, "Mom, do you KNOW that lady????" ha ha! You probably made that guys day even better though. It sounds like he might have been looking for a little reassurance from someone who "can play" that the Martin was a good choice. Nice job Nao!
Cool JoeyX3... just add me into Skype... mekidsmom is my user name there too. We're on right now if you want to join in!
Indeed a treat... thank you Nao for sharing!
If there are others that would like to join in Sunday, I don't mind hosting for a couple hours... though I'd have to sign off at 5EST (10pm London). If it's just the two of you however, I may bow out of this one and allow you guys to just get together one on one.
With that said, if SWMBO (did I do that right?) says Zurf is ok to play, is there anyone else interested in Sunday??????
Hey there MoldeOldie! I hope you can find someone to Jam with locally. I don't have quite that luck, but what some of us Chordie members have done is join together online in a virtual Jam with our webcams and mics via Skype. While you're searching for someone local, if you're computer inclined enough, you may want to check out this thread: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=19230
Thank you DE for the suggestion. Jim is planning to take the day off on Friday (for several reasons) and so we are going to go check out the store. As we'll only have ONE kid with us, hopefully I can try out quite a few guitars. While I've been eyeing Martin's for a year now, I absolutely will be picking a guitar based on that sixth sense. Many people say, pick the guitar that speaks to you. To me, it's the guitar that "sings with me". I've tried a couple smaller bodied Taylors in the past and felt they sounded hollow, however I wouldn't be surprised if my taste in sound has changed. When I started, it was the mellow sound of the classicals that I was after. It's funny how sound taste has changed over the past few years of playing/learning. Long story short, based on your suggestion I'll be sure not to count Taylor out! Thank you!
Don't forget! Tomorrow - Thursday 3/7 at 7PM EST (-5GMT). If I'm not already on your skype list, add me... mekidsmom ... and does anyone want to do one over the weekend as well? I would have to sign off by 5PM EST, but don't mind hosting as I've already paid for the premium membership. If you want to set up different times that don't work with my schedule, free free to post it up here! Just need one person to have a premium membership, which you MAY be able to get for free for a week if you check out the skype page. I know BGD said he has one already as well.
GCD, or GCE? Something you may want to look into is learning just a couple more chords, but lots of songs are only three chords. If you search through songs here on chordie and find a song with only three chords, you can always use the transpose feature (on the right of the song page) to change the tuning and be able to play the song with the three chords you know. The first song I learned was "leaving on a jet plane", found here: http://chordie.com/chord.pere/www.guita … ranspose=0
and if you transpose that down two (-2) you should have the chords you're looking for! Happy playing! OH... and WELCOME TO CHORDE!!!
Amy
Welcome to Chordie MoldieOldie! I believe the guys are right, it's a GC brand. I did a little search and new they sell for $189... used a little over $100 so I think the price you paid is fair considering you had to restring and clean it all up. Honestly though, price doesn't matter that much. Finding a gem is about finding a gem. If you are satisfied with the guitar, then that's what matters! Last time I went shopping, I passed up higer priced guitars with solid tops for a much lower priced laminate top because that's the one that spoke to me! Your guitar has some really good reviews on GC website from buyers, so it sounds like a gem to me! Here's some specs for your guitar taken from GC website:
"Body Style: Dreadnought
Top: Spruce
Back: Mahogany
Sides: Mahogany
Neck: Mahogany
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Bridge: Rosewood
No. of frets: 20/14 open
Scale length: 25-1/2"
Nut Width: 1-11/16"
Neck width at body: 2-1/8"
String spacing at saddle E-E: 2-1/8"
Inlay pattern: Mother of Pearl dots
Rosette: Abalone
Binding: White with Black/White/Black Purfling
Pickguard: Black
Bridgepins: Black
Saddle: Compensated
Width at Upper Bout: 11-3/8"
Width at Lower Bout: 15-3/8"

Happy playing! Enjoy it!

I found google chrome crashing on a regular basis on my windows 7 system and reverted back to using good ole ie - you may want to try that, or firefox as Ark suggests. If you're viewing the site on an iPad, and therefore using that version, I believe the autoscroll and print functions have been disabled as there was an issue with them on that version. (fyi, admin is looking for a developer). If after using firefox and ie you still are having issues (and have tried resizing the screen as Ark suggested) you should contact the admin with a screenshot if possible and an explination. Good luck!
I FOUND A PLACE NEARBY THAT HAS ONE IN STOCK FOR ME TO TRY!!!!!! (yes, I am yelling with excitement)
I actually value your opinion very highly. Of course I don't fingerpick that much, but I've found that the lower lows are what I like the most, and I really can't stand super tinny highs. So it seems to me a guitar built for fingerpicking would be the best thing based on the sound I like. Therefore, I believe what you like, I too would like. As for the size, my current guitar is a dread. While I love the "loudness" of it, the size is really frustrating for teeny tiny little me. I think a 000 would suit me much better. While I wouldn't hug it like a teddy bear I do think it would fit (I've tried the size out and it does).
Oh my... I'll have to visit the guitar store soon and see what they actually have IN stock and play a few and weigh my options out. Dirty Ed's breedlove is BEAUTIFUL! I hope you enjoy it!!!!
I know this post is a little old... but... I was just doing a little online research on Martin 000 ... and came across that 000-15M. Lots of good reviews, and I'm a little odd but I think it looks beautiful in it's simplicity and dark coloring. It seems however, there are NO SHOPS around me that have any in stock. Can you GAS for something that you have never touched? I KNOW that I would trust Martin enough that if I ordered it, I would be happy... yet... I have never played an all Mohogany guitar and so I worry if I will truly like the tone. So, a little input from you Zurf since you did in fact hug said guitar. Are the highs evenly balanced with the midtones and the lows? Do the lows boom, but boom with even balance? Would I love the action as much as every other Martin I've touched? Would it sing with me?
Of course, at this point I am only dreaming. But, our tax return may be here within the next month and well, it's a possibility. I've only been eyeying myself a new Martin for a year now. I think a year is long enough.
