Welcome to Chordie Rick!  Let us know if you need any further help with the songbook... I have a feeling there's quite a few things you could teach quite a few of us!  I look forward to seeing you around the forums!

I used M.B.'s technique to resize mine.
(of course, that was a few years ago... I really need to upload a new one)

OH and btw Z --- I fell in love with the Martin guitars, not on hype but on playing a few.  I fell even deeper in love when I visited the factory.  Seeing the people that work there, clearly in thier comfort zone... putting LOVE into the guitars they were making and knowing all the craftmanship that goes into these just made the price tag that much more worth it.  I do NOT know what the factory in Mexico looks like, and therefore I made a decision to completely avoid ANY of the guitars Martin makes there.  I can appreciate your steering clear of them because of the hype though.

You are right btw... there are dishes in the sink, a mountian of laundry, and much more.  Sadly, my Mother in law is in the hospital right now with a mild stroke and I haven't yet been able to play my new guitar as much as I'd like.  Of course, it IS a Martin and so it will last me forever, so there's plenty of time for our new love affair.

I'll tell ya what, if any of you ever get a chance to sit with one of these guitars... do not pass the opportunity up.  Now I realize not everyone likes the same tones as I do, but this guitar is amazing.  It's like several different insturments in one.  When you pick it with your fingers, there's this warm soft tone that reminds me a bit of my classical guitar sound.  With your nails, or a pick it's yet another sound.  When you strum it, there's even yet another sound.  It really is very versitile.  Add to that, I can finally do some extra LITTLE things that make my strumming sound better which I just couldn't really HEAR on the Epi dread although I was trying.

Seriously, I thought there was fret buzz when I first tried it out and I almost passed it over.  The neck is wider than my dread, and a bit pickier.  The guys in the shop offered to do a set up on it and lower the nut for me for free, but suggested I NOT do that.  They showed me how they finger the frets and how they have no buzz at all on the same guitar.  They advised me that adjusting my playing and perfecting my fretting was the best choice because I am going to get better... much better with this guitar and then will be regretting having lowered the nut.  So, those on the Skype Jam tonight please bear with me and try not to cringe too much with my buzzing.  I noticed the Martin Dreads will hide all those "poor player" mistakes, although this 000 does not.  I just couldn't pass up the tone and beauty.  I know some people think the lack of frills is ugly, but I just think the simplicity of this guitar and the rich mohoganny wood are so darn PURTY!  I hugged my guitar last night.  Yes, I really did hug it.  wink

BTW - I also tried out that Taylor Mini on DE's suggestion, and it is a MIGHTY FINE little guitar.  It does NOT lack in volume compared to other slightly larger guitars like this 000.  It is a bit cheaper also and I would absolutely suggest it to someone that is "anti-Martin" or looking for a small quality guitar in a slightly lower price range.  Tonally, it was a lovely sound... but the rich wood on this 000-15M makes a tone that I just could NOT pass by.  So rich and yummy!

This is my new baby.  It's a Martin 000-15M and ... it plays like.... wow... and it sounds like..... mmmmm.... it's awesome!

Now, I just have to work on my fretting and picking techniques so that I do not put the awesomeness of this instrument to shame with my poor skills!

So, the weather has been AWESOME even here in NY... but... if all goes well I will have my NEW guitar today (sadly, I will be working when my husband picks it up, but I'm off the next two days.  LOVE).

So anyone up for a virtual Jam this week?  I was actually thinking maybe we could do Friday - I little earlier than we usually do on Thursday nights - to possibly accomidate our friends in the UK.  Perhaps....

Friday 3/23 at 4PM EST

Reminder... to our friends in the UK, if you have not yet turned your clocks ahead an hour (I'm not sure when you do that), you are ONLY 4 hours ahead of us right now and not five, which I believe means that 4PM EST would be 8PM EST for you.  So... what's everyone think?  Anyone in, or are you all going to be out and about having a fun time on the town Friday night?  wink

Electric guitars seem to have even thinner necks than the average acoustic.  I thought there was a lot less barring going on with classical guitars, however you may want to keep in mind that classicals usually have nylon strings which, even with a wider neck, will be easier to barre than an acoustic steel string.  Of course, that is my opinion based on the fact that I can actually barre that Bm on my classical and not on my dread.

And I'm even further behind you M.B. --- I'm just trying to figure out a pattern other than the one that's stuck in my head.... er... fingers.  Perhaps I'll check out some fingerstyle books this summer as I've a new guitar on the way that will LOVE a little more picking and a little less strumming.  Good for you on the Bm.  I've been working on it myself without a ton of luck.  I was doing a "cheater" where I just completely do NOT use the bass notes at all, which works ok for some songs and is totally unacceptable for others.  Checking out Justin guitar's video now!!

pssst... hey Toots... pssst!  Did you notice your new membership status under your name?  Us mods concurred that you deserved a little more recognition than just "honored member".  wink

DE!  LOL!

Us singers used to use hot water with lemon and honey... but that was when I was younger.  Maybe adding in some brandy and tea to make it a hot totty would work even better now that I'm an adult.  wink

absolutely ONE of us!  Perfect!  I hope you contacted him BGD and at least invited him to cyber jams (which I think you still need to get in on)!  speaking of which... I will be making a new thread here shortly!

The weather here in Central NY was very nice this weekend as well.  We finally took the glass out and put the screen into the front door.  The kids had a blast playing in the mud and some of my daffodils are already coming up!  I was also on the porch (no swing) Saturday with my guitar.  wink

Ha ha ha!  Actually, my hubby is very supportive of my affair with Martin.  I have a deposit down on one... just waiting for the income taxes to come in (NEXT WEEK) and I'll have it in my arms.  Now, having seen this chart I believe I can continue purchasing guitars as long as I have the $$!  And here I thought ONE Martin would be the end of the line for me.  YAY!  GAS shall continue!

Well, I thought Jim was doing a tattoo tonight, but instead he's wanting his hair cut (and so do the girls).  The convenient part of this is that the office that I sit in usually while Skyping is also where I keep my salon supplies.  Soooooo... I COULD host one tonight at 7PM EST (currently -4 GMT until you all catch up with us on your daylight savings time).  If anyone's interested, please reply back here and I'll make a plan to be there!  You can watch me cut everyone's hair and I can listen to heavenly guitar playing... and then join in as soon as they're all cleaned up and beautiful.  LOL!

Jim does have tattoos over the weekend, so I don't think I'll be able to host Saturday or Sunday.  (Office/Skype Guitar Jam Room/Salon/Tattoo Studio).  Although, if everyone is getting together I could probably pop in for a short bit.

Thanks Wayne for the cudos on the Martin again.  My husband said to me, "if you get that Taylor, you are STILL going to want a Martin.  You are in love.  So... just get the Martin!"  LOL!

M.B. I don't know much about tap tuning, but I do know when I go in and tap a nice guitar it sounds heavenly... and the cheaper ones just "thunk".

Joe, you also may want to look up Wayne (wlbaye) as I am pretty sure he has the same Zoom as you do.  I'm not sure if he edits his files before uploading, but he may be able to help you out as he should be fairly familiar with the programs you are using.  Also, he plays some similar music as you do and does some nice walk ups and downs like yours.  smile  I know he's working right now, so his internet is limited, but he still could be able to help you out.  Let me know if you need his contact info.  smile

Joe, it sounds to me like maybe the file needs to be converted into a smaller size.  I've had that problem before.  Heed Russell's advise about changing the file type/converting and see if that helps at all.

Happy NGD Chevo!  New thread and pics sir!

On Dirty Ed's advise, when I went shopping recently I tried out a Taylor Mini.  I must say... if I hadn't had my mind totally set on a Martin, I would have seriously considered the Mini.  With eyes closed, it sounded just as full as any other Oorchastra model in the room and several larger guitars.  Very impressive sound coming out of that little guitar.  Completely different than the Big Baby.

So, based on this chart... unless I decide to "switch sides", divorce my husband and marry a woman, I will ALWAYS need to buy more guitars even if I have tons of guitars hiding at friends houses that I cannot name and I am not a gigging musician.  Fair enough.  wink

Good for you!  The same advise was given to me when I first came here... and it's true.  The more you practice the better you'll get.  It all comes in time.  And honestly Z is so right.... try to practice "right".  I'm having an issue now as I've got a new guitar on the way and my laziness and incorrect practicing has caused me to fret badly and get buzz with the new guitar (bad fretting on low action = fret buzz)... so I've got to now relearn how to fret cleanly.  I wish I'd have done that in the first place!

Good for you Jx3!  You've set a good example not only for the trout, but also for the other band members.  Giving some respect will often auto earn you respect as well.  If they think of steppnig on YOUR  toes in the future, they will likely think TWICE about it because of your actions this time around.

REMINDER:  We set our clocks ahead an hour last night in NY for daylight savings time.  I know not every location does this, so I just thought I'd remind everyone that 2PM EST is going to come a little sooner today than it would have yesterday.  wink
