Thanks for those links Kenny - LMAO. I remember watching Carol Burnett show as a kid. Tim Conway and Harvey were always hilarious.

Sounds like you have plenty of good ideas in mind already Cam. Fingerpicking patterns (i.e. Prine) is definitely where I would begin my lessons.

Let us know how it goes!

^ I'd caution using that site. As far as I know, beatles tunes downloads are not available legally anywhere - despite what the site claims.

Congrats KEG - I've got an Alvarez PJ85SC12DVS 12 string that I love (purchased from fellow chordian Guitarpix). Plays great, sounds great. If only she could change the strings herself... smile

Hi barjonic and welcome to chordie!

I have found the song you are looking for here:

http://www.e-chords.com/guitartab.asp?idmusica=150395

I am unable to "post it on chordie". Please read the FAQ under the resources tab. Chordie does not host any songs, it is a search engine that finds songs elsewhere on the net and formats them in an easy to read style.

Anybody can request that songs be added to chordie by filling out the form found here:

I live in the south - had a good 6" snow 2weeks ago and there are still visible remnants which is unheard of for this area. Next weeks temps are forecasted to be lows in the teens, highs in the 30's all week - they say it's the worst cold streak in 30 years.

I recommend making some boat drinks and cranking up some Buffett.

The only suggestions I have is to try tweaking your screen resolution or attempt viewing with a different browser (i.e. Firefox)

Michael Jackson never "owned" the Beatles songs, what he purchased was the publishing rights to most of The Beatles catalog. The performance rights have always been held by the Beatles members or their estates.

The rights to the performances belong to Apple Corps, which is technically a partnership owned by McCartney, Starr, and the estates of Lennon (i.e., Ono) and Harrison (i.e., Olivia, his second wife). Those rights are licensed by Apple to EMI.

To maybe oversimplify a complicated business, publishing rights are basically the sheet music rights. There are a couple things the publisher can't do. The first is to mess with, or license the use of, Beatles recordings.

Here's a pretty good explanation on snopes:

http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/jackson.asp

As far as I know, the only reason the Beatles aren't available as downloads are because they (Apple music corp - not MJ) haven't come to agreement with any on-line source. Negotiations with Apple computer (i-tunes) have been ongoing for years. There was great speculation and anticipation that the Beatles catalog would be available last year.

So for now, the only way to legally purchase Beatles tunes is to buy the CDs. Thats fine with me as I like to hold something that I spend my money on, not a bunch of zeros and ones coming from my computer connection.

^There goes my appetite...... Not a pleasant mental image Pix. smile

"State Of Fear" by Michael Crichton  Great book and a superb read for anyone interested in global warming.

So what you Reading? smile

Read that years ago - fantastic book, thoroughly researched footnotes and all.

I do my best reading during the summer months, give me a beach or pool, a cooler of beer and a good book and I can make a day of it. The rest of the year, my reading is pretty much accomplished on the throne smile.

I got the new James Patterson book, "I, Alex Cross" for Christmas. I've read most of his stuff, so I feel committed, but honestly, it's not as good as it once was. I get sickened by the selling of his name - i.e.: Co-written by..... give me a break.

I dig pretty much anything by Baldacci and Vince Flynn these days. There are others, but I am as bad at remembering authors as I am remembering titles. I have bought the same book twice on more than one occasion.

Hi Eric - Welcome to chordie and congrats on the new guitar. Hang in there, get past the initial finger pain and making music will bring a lifetime of joy.

First, please realize that the chords / tabs you find on the internet are offered by fellow musicians and leave room for interpretation. Some are great, some not so much. The number 1 rule in my book is "If it sounds good, it is good". What I mean is experiment a bit, don't take the written notation literally.

So your first example:
                 C                              G
This land is your land, this land is my land.

If taken literally, the vocals would start before the first chord and the first strum would begin as you sing "your". That may be fine, but if it sounds better strumming the C at the start, do it!

The C/D is typically known as a "slash" chord, in this example being a C chord with a D note in the bass. Do a search on slash chords - there have been many discussions. Here is a link to a large chord chart that gives many examples of chord variations:

http://www.guitarnotes.com/guitar/notes2/ultimate.pdf

Again, realize that the chords are just an individuals interpretation. In many cases a substitute chord will sound just fine (a simple C in this example). Also, oftentimes I find it useful to click on the "Original version" link - sometimes that will lend a clue as to the intended fingering.

Strumming patterns - My advice again is to listen to and play along with the song. Feel the tempo and pattern, don't get hung up on a formula - If it sounds good it is good!!  There are also many discussions on strumming patterns here and several good video examples, just search the forum for strum patterns.

And finally - justinguitar.com - check out his free beginner lessons with video. An invaluable resource.
