Hi acmecorp

There is a song that I play fairly often to myself but is cringe worthy and so uncool but I admit I like it.

It's "Greensleeves" purported to be by Henry VIII

A bit sad I know. hmm

Hi, Old Doll,

Had a look at the chords looks like you add a C note on the D chord using the A string on the 3rd fret. I usually use my pinkie for this. Depends how you finger the D chord I think you could probably get away with not using it unless you are picking out the bass line. (though I don't Know the song)

Hope this helps.

Hi
I hope this goes on ok.  It’s a first try.
I wrote this a few years back for a baby we lost in the first years of marriage.
A bit sentimental I know but there it is.
I play it picking though the chords moderately slow

Hi
In my experience most workers in guitar shops are laid back and really could 'nt give a damm about whats being played (murdered) by prospective buyers. It might lead to a sale and It's all part of the job.

Whats "cool" and what's not is all in the mind of the person with the guitar.

why is it that every song i look at on this site has those stupid tabs? has no one here studied music at all? People need to REALLY learn how to play the guitar

Hi,
I guess this post is here to cause a stir or maybe it’s a silly point of view held by someone with a superior attitude on learning to play the guitar.

Many great guitar players (Musicians) admit to being unable to read music. Have not studied music at an academic level. To me they still can REALLY play the guitar.

Tabs and Chord charts are a basic resource for learning for those who because of various reasons do not wish to get formal guitar tuition but still feel they are REALLY learning to play the guitar.

We all learn the to play the guitar in different ways for different reasons and goals. To decry one method that is REALLY Stupid.

Hi,

I've always enjoy playing "The streets of London"  by Ralph Mc Tell.

Also I like to play "Perfect day" by Lou Reed.

and nice and simple "Greensleeves" purported to be by Henry VIII

Hi Old Doll,

Well I did ask and  yes I am quite delighted by your  most eloquent  and descriptive answer.

Certainly sounds a beautiful area the way you  have describe it.
Makes Essex seem rather drab then I don’t have your gift of a Silvery Irish tongue  to describe it smile

Cheers

So ill see you next time in chats Ark! Dont be having to many thoughts! You will tire yourself needlessly! lol.Old Doll.

Hi Old Doll,
I have heard tell that too many thoughts can be dangerous. So one a week is about my limit. Just happened to be on Chordie when it occurred. I “thought  it was a good one but maybe not.

Must say I enjoy reading your posts and the regulars that contribute to all sections on Chordie. It has helped invigorate my interest in the Guitar and the old adage of  “You are never too old to learn to something new" springs to mind.

What part of the Emerald Isle do you hail from just curious? Don’t think you’ve said.

Ark.

Hi
I wonder what this thread is doing in Acoustic now. Should be in chat.

Just a thought.

Ark

Hi jpage_roxmysox
I don't think so.
Each instrument mentioned can be played by various characters and in different ways.
ie. Guitar can be played by someone who is a perfectionist, pays attention to detail or any other of character traits mention for other instruments.
Same works for the other instruments.
I don't think you can pigeon hole any type of Character to any kind of instrument.

Hi,
Well being a Brit. Esteban meant nothing to me. Never seen any of his infomercials on TV guess they must only be on in the US.
I saw the Utube vids wasn't much impressed seemed tacky. Well that was  probably the point.

Now Kurt Cobain I have heard of  Nirvana's lead man  who shot himself.

Esteban v Kurt Cobain :)Why? Other an to ruffle a few feathers and get some responses.

Well it worked and it is entertaining to read the posts.

I love Chordie!

Hi,
Has anyone mentioned Emerson, Lake and Palmer one of the greatest prog rock bands.

Cream, Ten Years After, Led Zep, Yes......The list could go on

Guess it reflects my age.

Hi,
I remember a all female American rock Group called "Fanny"

Came to Britain in the 70's. They said they didn't realise the slang meaning of  the word here.

Caused quite a stir. LOL.

Hi
According to Wikipedia,

"Killing Me Softly with His Song" is a 1971 song composed by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel, which has become a pop standard. The song was inspired by a poem by Lori Lieberman, "Killing Me Softly with His Blues", which she wrote after seeing a then-unknown Don McLean perform the song Empty Chairs live.

Just my bit.

Hi,
jerome im abit curious how you manage to play a B chord with two fingers with a barre.

just wondered i use four. Always open for a easier way.

Hi
The A chord using 1,2,3  I find easiest for an open e.

The A chord using 2,3,4 is handy for sliding up to the B chord but is murder on a soft pinky.

Practice the 1,2,3 with the open e as the note adds to the richness of the chord.

good luck

Hi, jpage_roxmysox
I agree with what you write.

Strumming a song is ok and enjoyable but I feel that to get the best out of an Accoustic guitar finger picking is the way to go.
Arpeggios on chords are a good place to start.

I really enjoy experimenting with finger picking. The variations on basic chord finger placements on different songs can throw up some interesting sounds.

Most if not all of the great players are accomplished finger pickers of a sort. eg. Jimmy page "Black mountainside"  seeing you are an admirer of the same.

Is My struggle typical?

YES....Unless you are some gifted child prodigy with fingers of steel and guitar music running through your blood. (There are some)

Anyway for the rest of us it's a mostly enjoyable journey with ups and downs along the way. There will be some walls I think you have perhaps reached one them.

There's no quick fix, no real easy way. Just advice given, some will work for you and some won't.

All of the advice in the posts above are good and have worked for some.

All I will say is boringly Just PRACTISE. We all do we always will.

Best of Luck

Hi,

Learned and played for years using nails for finger picking and even strumming. Never could get on with a pick or other devises for picking. The thing is I lost my thumbnail in a accident at work and it was like almost being a novice again. I use some false harmonics in some pieces and these I found impossible to play without my nail  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_cry.gif" border=0 alt="Crying or Very Sad"> It's taken six months for a new nail to grow back and I can't wait till it's good enough to use again. I suppose It's the old adage that you don't know what you got to it's gone.
