Hi, Old Doll,

Had a look at the chords looks like you add a C note on the D chord using the A string on the 3rd fret. I usually use my pinkie for this. Depends how you finger the D chord I think you could probably get away with not using it unless you are picking out the bass line. (though I don't Know the song)

I guess this post is here to cause a stir or maybe it’s a silly point of view held by someone with a superior attitude on learning to play the guitar.

Many great guitar players (Musicians) admit to being unable to read music. Have not studied music at an academic level. To me they still can REALLY play the guitar.

Tabs and Chord charts are a basic resource for learning for those who because of various reasons do not wish to get formal guitar tuition but still feel they are REALLY learning to play the guitar.

We all learn the to play the guitar in different ways for different reasons and goals. To decry one method that is REALLY Stupid.

Well being a Brit. Esteban meant nothing to me. Never seen any of his infomercials on TV guess they must only be on in the US.

I agree with what you write.

Strumming a song is ok and enjoyable but I feel that to get the best out of an Accoustic guitar finger picking is the way to go.
Arpeggios on chords are a good place to start.

I really enjoy experimenting with finger picking. The variations on basic chord finger placements on different songs can throw up some interesting sounds.

Most if not all of the great players are accomplished finger pickers of a sort. eg. Jimmy page "Black mountainside"  seeing you are an admirer of the same.

Hi,

Learned and played for years using nails for finger picking and even strumming. Never could get on with a pick or other devises for picking. The thing is I lost my thumbnail in a accident at work and it was like almost being a novice again. I use some false harmonics in some pieces and these I found impossible to play without my nail  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_cry.gif" border=0 alt="Crying or Very Sad"> It's taken six months for a new nail to grow back and I can't wait till it's good enough to use again. I suppose It's the old adage that you don't know what you got to it's gone.
