I think 95% of the songs I like to play and sing best are "depressing".  I guess because you can really FEEL the music in a sad song more than in a happy one.  When doing skype jams, I often have to search my songbook for something that at least SOUNDS upbeat, although usually it's still got a sad note to it.  One of my favorites to play/sing is "Killing me Softly"

Sorry you couldn't join us.  I use my H2 as a mic during skype jams.  It works much better than the cruddy laptop mic.  Zurf actually thought I had the guitar plugged in last night!  Well, until I got strumming and get got some interesting feedback which apparently wan't too bad of an addition to the guitar sound.  LOL!  I work from home, and what I've found is that Skype (being a voip of sorts) requires a LOT of bandwith.  My connection with work and the vpn hogs most of it, so I can barely chat on skype while working.  It's too bad, cuz I sure would love to listen in during jams while working too but my connection would never support it.  sigh...

Let us know when you're available and I'll see if I can make some time to host and get everyone together when you can join as well!  smile

We feel your pain - or have felt it at some point.  I find when it seems to happen to me, there's some huge thing that is about to "click" and then I'll be better... for a while, till I stink again and then something else clicks.  Guitar is a wonderful thing, because we're always learning.  You'll never get bored unless you never continue to push yourself to improve.  Keep on practicing and playing and remember to enjoy it.  If you're not enjoying it, then put it down for a couple days.  Sometimes, that's the thing that makes it all click.  wink

If only it was easy for the rest of us.  Some poeple seem to be properly talented and lucky enough to make "easy money".  I salute them.

You may need to log into the skype portal online - rather than just through the skype program.  I would suggest you attempt to cancel the account you already have, and then re-register to just start all over.  I will warn you, skype's "customer service" leaves a lot to be desired, but if you can get someone on the phone or in an assistance chat they may be able to help you out!  smile  I'll be looking forward to a new contact request!

Yeah, if the camera has a mic, there's settings in skype for that too.  smile  Hope you can join us tonight for a short bit!

Well, if you want people to add you into their skype, you'll need to let them know what you used as your Skype name.  smile  I'm mekidsmom in both places.

Without any plan to change history... I'd go back to the roaring 20's and throw on a flapper dress and get myself into some underground dance club and drink some moonshine w/ the guys (if they'd let me) and dance the night away.  I think it would be a BLAST of a good time!

Last minute plans to have a b.day party for my littlest this Friday evening.  Sooo... how about Thursday?  Maybe we can do it 6-8ish?  I could leave the computer logged in longer than that to allow the hosting to stay open if you guys want to stay longer, but I may have to leave my webcam around 8.  I figure 6 is 11 in Portugal and MAYBE not toooo terribly late.  I may be able to get on a little sooner than 6 but I am not going to make any promises.

Hope to see some of you on Skype in a few days.  Thusday 5/17 6pm-8pm EST

sorry guys, the kids didn't "allow it" --- perhaps this thursday will work out better as Jim is finally off the 12 hour shift schedule.  We'll have to do something earlier in the day as well for our friends across the pond.  Maybe we should do a Friday, slightly earlier.  What time will work best for everyone?????

FYI - although it's not as fun, you can join in with just audio and no video.  You should be able to find one that's all you need for under $40 (as long as you have a mic already).  You may even be able to use a digital camera/digital video camera that you already have on hand as a webcam - check your user manual.  wink

Oh, and fyi everyone there's been a few updates to the skype software recently.  I'm not sure if it'll help with the connection between us all, but it can't hurt to update your software.  I had to log into my account on IE to download it (the software somehow wouldn't just do it on it's own).  smile

Hope to see ya'll later on.  Keeping fingers crossed the kids will be good tonight and allow me a little time to myself!  smile

I'll see if I can pop on as well Jeff.  Life's been crazy still.  Jim finally had ONE day off after working a month straight.  The kids are asking when MOM gets a day off, so we'll see if they'll "allow" it.  smile

No big plans this summer, other than hopefully getting to meet Jeff in August and likely serve him up some of my "famous dead cow".  LOL!  Back yard BBQ's ... trying to stay cool... and work are on the agenda.

I feel your pain MKM.  Back in the 80's I worked as a test engineer at a couple nuclear power plant startups.  Schedule was 7-12's for three years. Made a lot of money but it sure was tough.  I volunteered for all night shifts so I could see the kids before they left for school and then again for a couple hours in the evenings before I left for work again.  Hang in there - and be thankful that at least Jim is working during these tough times.

DE

Well then you will clearly appreciate more than many... he's working a shut down at Nine Mile Nuclear Plant.  Luckily, the shut down is only scheduled for two months (one month down, one to go) - and I think "his job" will be ending soon, or at least waning so he'll have Sundays off again.  I can't imagine watching him-or anyone- do this type of work for THREE YEARS!  wow!  They already ended the night shift, so I guess it's a good thing he didn't volunteer for that.  He started out assisting in the welding shop to get all the workers certified.  While in there, he also got his certification for the boilermaker welding, but they didn't end up needing him for that... yet.  I just wish he'd get back with a company that could offer a truck and gas card again.  Ahhhh... those were the days!  The gas for driving 2-4 hours a day surely cuts into Jim's paycheck, but we can't complain about the money coming in for working 7-12's.  Fingers crossed that the next job is a nice easy peasy 40 hour week w/ a foreman's truck and gas card.  We all miss him!

Congrats!!!!  There was a Taylor that I seriously considered when I bought my Martin.  Had I not already been in love, I might have chosen it.  Both great guitar makers for sure.  Enjoy!!!

Well, funny thing... I was just thinking of you (Zurf) last night as I was sitting here at my desk working... and tiny ants started coming out of nowhere.  AHHHH!  I'll be headed to the store today for poison, spray, bait traps, etc.  There's nothing quite like typing and having an ant crawl up your sleeve.  OMG!  I don't know what they want with me or my desk.  It's clean, there's no spills, but they seem to like this space more than any other in the house.

This of course is no major ordeal like you guys are having.  On the other hand, Jim's been working 7 days a week, 12 hours a day getting home after I'm already working and leaving before I'm awake.  If I wasn't working from home, I wouldn't see him awake at all.  Luckily I take a 15 minute break, and after kissing the kids goodnight, using the rest room, filling my tea, etc, I get to give him a kiss and get back to work.  I think I preferred him working out of town to him working in town but never seeing him.  Hence, my lack of being available for skype.  The kids are missing him terrible as well and requiring a lot more of my time, and my days off allow me at least an hour of trying to catch up with him on all the important things (tho we still haven't had time for the fun things... like Jack and Coke).

This all should come to an end soon... well, at least the 7 days a week will.  Hopefully we'll all get back to normal and be able to resume our Thursdays and possibly Sundays.  I'll keep you posted!!!!

Well, Roger got the smilie issue for ya... as for the "seeing your pic" you may want to delete cookies and such.  In IE you go to tools, Internet Options, delete browsing history.

Those pics can often be saved as temp files to allow webpages to load faster and may not refresh on their own.  wink

Well, now you've got another new one in there!  wink

Sure, you can send me a pic and I'll see if I can get it to take if you'd like.

Yes, I bought my husband and my son each an electric from Rondo.  Great value, great service, and both gutars are still going strong a few years in.  The only issue so far was with my son's one of the dohickies that holds the strings in place came off.  He bought a package of new ones for a few bucks and replaced it and all is well. smile  OH - and they were far from being in tune when opened.  The adjustable bridge on my husband's was all straight and in line and he had to do lots of fiddling to get it where it would be in tune.  I don't know anything really about them, but I was kind of surprised that it didn't come with some sort of "proper" settings in place like most guitars (would have gotten at least that much free from a local store)... but, he had fun being forced to learn about it and fiddle.  wink

I think that when girls become moms they turn into worry-warts.  Moms are pretty nice, but they like to tell you what to do. And they want you to stand still so that they can hug you all the time and say things like, "You can't get any older or taller, and that's final!" Then they get mad when you roll your eyes, and tell you in that voice they have, "Just wait till you have children!" And then they go look at your baby pictures and cry.

I wonder . . . am I gonna' be like that? *shudder*

I think you just described me and my kids.  LOL!  YES - I guess it's a MOM thing!

I'm not sure if you're working on it right now or not... but when I came to the post I saw the pic of you stretched out.... I went to your profile and looked to see what you had set as the avitar and saw a diff pic.  When I came back, viola!  There it was!  Hopefully you've got this figured out now!  wink

Only one question... since the pic HAS to be so small, I can't for the life of me make out what's IN the pic????  sad

My job now, is working from home for a company that handles other companie's tech and customer service issues.  I am cable television tech support.  I click my mouse and reset people's cable boxes from the comfort of my home in my pj's.  Between calls, I play on my smart phone on the internet (because work has internet on my computer blocked from all the FUN websites).  I'm currently looking into getting a new electric oven that has all the electronic bells and whistles.  My cable tv's are connected and can "talk" to one another.  I love technology.

(I'm hiding in my little corner over here, ducking because I have a feeling one of you guys is going to throw your phone at me, and honestly I can totally appreciate that!)
