I actually thought it was metaphorically written about trying to revive an old relationship.

That was brilliant. I love the words, the guitar is great  and I think the key change was the right way to go. As the saying goes; you should never  achieve your dreams as you'll only be disappointed, that's my take on what you're saying, am I right?

intresting to hear what message people get form my songs.  that one started from  line i pulled over on the side of the road in my truck to write down so i wouldnt forget it, the very first line. the rest just kind of flowed out . to me its about some one who waited to long to go back home looks around and no one is left .  but if there are other messages buried in the words thats cool to .

and thanks for the kind words  glad you enjoyed it

capo first fret

D                                                      G                                           D
you try nd go home but there's nothing but a whispering wind
D                                                                    G                                                    A
but you thought you hear voices so you turned round and went back again
G                                                  A
but there's nothing there but a weed covered lot
          D                                            G
old shed in the back where you used to smoke pot
D                                                G                                                       D
this coming back home aint nothing like you thought it would be
G                                                  A                                                 D
no coming back home aint nothing like you thought it would be

well your folks are all gone and your friends have moved away
but you had to come back because this place calls to you every day
but theirs no one there that you used used to know
just a rusty old car with nothing to show
this coming back home aint nothing like you thought it would be
no coming back home aint nothing like you thought it would be

sometimes you wonder why the hell did it take you so long
but the reason escapes you like the words to a long lost song
so you wander the streets of your old neighbor hood
you'd love to go back if only you could
this coming back home aint nothing like you thought it would be
no coming back home aint nothing like you thought it would be

you found out the hard way that nothing ever stays the same
so you look around for somewhere or some one to place the blame
but theirs no one there its only you
just a face in the mirror so it has to be true
this coming back home aint nothing like you thought it would be
no coming back home aint nothing like you thought it would be

dont remember the exact year 1980ish bough a "Ensenada" i believe was the name on it $30 pawn shop buy. i know what happened to it , a few year later when i bought a Takamine I delved into guitar mechanicing  . didnt know what a luthier was at the time. Think i still have the tuners laying around  some where, about all that survived the   surgery.
taking a guitar census 2 Taylors, a mini martin, my old jasmine Takamine, my first electric  and old Bill Lawrence . and lastly some where between Texas and Malabo a Alvarez  that got left behind at work when i evacuated for the virus.

I received a call from Miss Cleo awhile back, she is a medium who advertised psychic readings on TV.  told me I had won two fee readings from Miss Cleo and what did I think about that? my answer was if she was so psychic then  she would have known better than to dial my number and hung up on her

as requested  may be a couple more verses later , have some in the works

G                 C                   D                G
turn out the lights before you go home
D                                          C                        G
should I call you a ride or can you drive stoned

you can stay all night I dont care
you sleep on the floor or the easy chair

you can party all night if thats how you feel
but its getting late and ive had my fill

D                                         G
I dont get mean and I dont get loud
I dont do things that will draw a crowd
sometimes the whiskey gets to head
D                                                      C                   G
and long abut mid night you will find me in bed

back in my youth I could party all day
I could party all night hell for three or four days
now I am much older and I aint so tough
one night of drinking and I'm feeling rough
your welcome to stay you can drink my beer
but it wont be long before I disappear

chorus

act your age my mama would say
but me and the whiskey could not obey
ive slowed down now my mama would be proud
turn that music its way to loud
the years and the whiskey have taken there toll
I never thought I'd  feeling this old

chorus

I am always a huge fan of your musical abilities and song writing.
would it be too much of a hassle for you to post the lyrics ?
I am so glad you have your music ability with you in Africa !
Have you ever thought of doing a song including some African beat - a la Paul Simon on his  Graceland album.

keep them coming mojo !

Jim

Jim I really appreciate the complement. lol not sure I can pull the African bet myself though. nd no it is no trouble here are the lyrics and a brief explanation what they mean

E7
well the shelves are all empty
and the toilet paper its all gone
A7                                          E7
and I dont know what the f%&$ went wrong
B7
living on bens and rice
A7                            E7
but still got my whiskey on ice

got plenty of beer in the corner                                                                                        ( we all went out and stock piled alcohol)
got whiskey on the shelf
I'm sitting here all alone just a drinking it by myself
I know this much is clear
this corona aint no beer

the apocalypses it must be coming
the whole world has lost is mind
think ill sit back and watch it  I got a cold beer ill be just fine
no Walhalla in Douala                                                                                                       (  local saying for no problem. Douala is a city in camaroon)
buying bush meat with my last dollar                                                                             ( rats ,snakes, bats , lizards etc.)

had me a ticket
on an aero plane
but all those plans went down the drain
damn those frogs and krauts                                                                                (air France and Lufthansa but to be fair the government stop all flights. I like the way it sounded)
left me stranded here without a doubt

I cant go home
I cant g back
now I sitting in quarantine here in ABAYAK                                                             ( Abayak is the name of the compound where we live)
their taking me away for a coupe weeks                               ( any one with symptoms or coming into the country must quarantine for two weeks at government facility)
to a private room somewhere on black beach                        (black beach Is the name of prison here where people go and are never heard from again)
so they would not  take us to black beach ( I dont think)but that is a running joke around here to be arrested and
                                                                                                       end up there.

Good one Mojo listening to your song it sounds like Beans and Rice are a big part of the diet where you are working.Good thing you got a bar to  have some fun and of course the  whisky on ice.     That bush meat sounds like it might be a bit of hard going and getting a flight home not easy.

Peatle,  we are not down to beans and rice yet but it is a big part of the local diet.  just looking ahead to the coming months if this drags on in to the summer for us. the bush meat  sold here consist of ..well  any thing thats is  with the exception of the crows for some reason. bats, lizards , snakes, rats, porcupines, monkey's, antelope( very small the size of a mall dog) cats,  etc. the bar is still open and we all stocked up on our drink of choice for when the lock down comes. its not really that bad here , my coworker who are stuck offshore on the platforms have it worse.
thanks for listening to it

I know most of you wont get a lot of the meaning  this song, it was written for my coworkers stuck in Africa with me  untill this madness is over.it gets a good laugh around the bar here. if any one is intrest in the meanings just ask I will explain. Mostly a humorous  little song to help lighten the mood here,
in a tough situation. hope all the chordie family are doing ok and  if you home with family be happy it could be a lot worse . hope you like the song
