Re: are these really the top 100 songs on chordie???? (9 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Welcome to the forum.
I can't find it just now, but I recall reading a post a (long) while back where the admin explained how the "top" rankings of the songs on chordie were determined. It pretty much made no sense to me and seemed to indicate (if memory serves) that they weren't based on stats or data. In other words, they were kinda random.
Anyway, I might be totally off (I've slept since then), but there it is.

Re: Struggling With a Jethro Tull Tune (9 replies, posted in Song requests)
OK Funster, I think I got everything except the last chord. Try this:
(Between 0:49 – 1:03 in the video.)
Well the (F)fly's ... (C)milk ... (Bb)cat's ... (C)stew.
Another (F)bun . . . (C)oven (G7)oh ... do?
We'll (F)laugh ... (C)sing (Bb)and try to (C)bring
... (F)pound ... (C)pocket. Good (G)day to (C)you.
Oh these (?*)hard times.
* = I can hear the notes in the last chord but can't find it on the fretboard. Maybe somebody else can.
It's probably more complicated than that, but if you're playing solo, those will work as a fake. Good luck.

Re: Struggling With a Jethro Tull Tune (9 replies, posted in Song requests)
Sorry I wasn't clear: I know what A chorus is. I just couldn't pick out THE chorus from this song because of its unusual structure. I guess I didn't listen far enough in to where I picked up on repeating lyrics.
I'll give it another listen and see what happens.
EDIT: Holy Moley! I can see why you're having trouble with it. The syncopated time signature is really messing with my ear. Let me study this one and see what I can come up with.

The structure of the song is unusual, so I'm not 100% sure what you mean by the chorus.
The opening verse is a (using 8 count) D-D-G-D-C-C-D-D pattern.
If by "chorus" you're referring to the part which runs from 0:25 to 0:36 (for example), then I hear Bb, Eb and Ab following the same pattern as the opening verse, i.e. something like:
Bb-Bb-Eb-Bb-Ab-Ab-Bb-Bb
Does that help?

Re: Saw doctors (2 replies, posted in Song requests)
Hi Dave and welcome to the forum.
This is the original video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O04o9OE3iJQ
And here are the lyrics: http://www.wowlyrics.com/s/saw-doctors_songs/24339_lyrics_2304046.php
I couldn’t find the chords online anywhere, so I used this acoustic version to pick them out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaOOgz4nveY
The guitar player uses a capo on fret 5, so the chords shown below assume fret 5 is the nut. If you want to play it open, transpose all of the chords below +5.
Intro: C Em F G (X4)
Verse (example):
(C)sit . . . (Em)wait . . .(Am)know . . . (F)hoping . . . (E7)Phone (G)
Second half of the verse is the same except leave off the G at the end.
Bridge: (Dm) I’ll . . . (G)crossed (G7)
Chorus: Same chords as intro
Then the second verse, another bridge and another chorus.
Then a second type of bridge which goes:
(Ab)Wouldn't . . . (Eb)bore . . . (Ab)really . . . (G)sure?
Then a solo, which is the same as the second half of the verse chords.
Then back-to-back original bridges:
(Dm)Until . . . (G) lost . . . (Dm) I’ll . . . (G)crossed (G7)
Then two choruses back-to-back.
End on C.
And that’s it. It’s a nice happy song. Good luck with it.

Re: BEST LIVE ROCK ALBUMS (32 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Almost all "live" records, have overdubs. Sammy is on record saying that even the concert vid for Live with out a net and the CD was over dubed. Eddie didnt like the sound of the actual, so the whole show was re dubbed in the studio whle watching it on a monitor.
No argument. I implied that (almost) all live albums have overdubs. The only point I was trying to make is that KISS: Alive! supposedly had so many overdubs that the only true "live" parts which remained were Peter Criss' drum solos. According to an interview I saw a few years back with Paul Stanley, they even overdubbed audience sounds to make the crowds sound bigger than they were. He didn't want to admit that, but after all of these years, he figured who cares?

Re: BEST LIVE ROCK ALBUMS (32 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
. . . I can not believe . . . that no one mentioned KISS ALIVE.
Old thread, but I'll play.
Alive! is one of my all-time favorites as well. In later years it was revealed that a LOT of overdubbing was done on the album to clean it up (more than on most live albums), but I don't care. It brings back a lot of good memories for me.
Near the top of my favorite live albums list has to be Queen's "Live at Wembley" ('86). That band was awesome.
Another live one I like is Oasis' "Familiar to Millions" (also at Wembley - 2000). Not an awesome album, but I like it because I was there.
. . . and +1 on Frampton Comes Alive.

I changed my title on account of Z's findings.
Whoa! Credit where it's due there, bro!
Thanks for doing this Astro
You're quite welcome.
Interesting info, although I am afraid that the start dates are arbitrary. There were major changes that were made to Chordie in March 2006 and everyone got given that as a start date.
Yes, I figured that. In fact I almost mentioned it during the original post, but decided against it. I could tell that there had to have been a database reset or something equally as radical on 4 Mar 06 because hundreds of people "joined" on that date, and I realized that couldn't be real.

Topic: Fun Facts about Chordie.com Members (15 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Just for giggles, I took some data from the registered user list (all users who have >= 400 posts as of today) and plugged it into an Excel spreadsheet and ran some calculations.
There are 49 users who have 400+ forum posts.
Those users account for a little over 0.01% of the total number of registered users (451,869). Yet we (myself included) account for 64.2% of the total posts in the forums.
Only about 2.3% of the registered users have EVER posted in the forums. This includes the hundreds who have been banned.
TOP 10 - NUMBER OF POSTS

- upyerkilt: 3290
- bensonp: 3203

- badeye: 2724
These 10 users account for 29% of the total number of posts in all of the forums. jerome.oneil didn't make the top 10 (he's #11), but his post count of 2670 pushes this total to over 31%.

Being awakened by distant rolling thunder and pouring rain on a Saturday morning, just knowing that I don't have to get up and go to work. I have always loved that feeling.
And +1 on Funster's warm home made bread (the really heavy, doughy kind) with peanut butter. That's ambrosia as far as I'm concerned. That and home made buttermilk biscuits smothered in black-strap molasses.
Yeah, I like to eat. Deal with it.

Re: Trying to find the words and chords (5 replies, posted in Song requests)
Thanks beamer. I usually go to u-g dot com also, and I went there and did a search for Chuck Willis under "bands" and got no results. I see the version you found has "Chuck Willis" as part of the title, and the artist is "Misc. Unsigned Bands". I guess if I had done a broader search I would have found it.
The good news is that from what I can tell, the chords page you found matches what I said above.
Thanks again.

Re: Trying to find the words and chords (5 replies, posted in Song requests)
Assuming this is the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FYJ9LhGjAs
Here are the lyrics: http://www.cduniverse.com/chuck-willis- … 997677.htm
The song is in the key of Bb. To make playing it much easier, put a capo on fret 1 and play this:
Intro: A
What am I (A) living... (E) you
What am I (E) living... (A) you
What am I (A7) living... (D) you
Oh (A)nobody . . . . (E)nobody ... (A)do.
Repeat that progression over and over.
In the two bridges at 1:04 and 2:45 in the YouTube video above, the chords are:
...(D)close ... (A)know ...(B)all ... (E)so
If you don't want to use a capo but still want to play it in the original key, transpose all of the chords above +1.
Good luck.

Re: Can i save a song as a .doc document (2 replies, posted in About Chordie)
i could save them as .doc i could move around the verses in microsoft word
Dman: You can select all of the lyrics and chord text on the web page and then paste it into a blank Word document.
If you do that, I suggest you paste it using "Paste Special" and then select "unformatted text". After it is pasted, I suggest you select all of it again and then change it to a font where the columns line up. I use "Courier New" font. It makes lining the chords up with words and syllables a lot easier.
After that, you can pretty much manipulate it the way you would any other word document. I've done this to over 200 songs.

Re: Abba - Hamlet III (2 replies, posted in Song requests)
Hi.
I never heard the song before, but assuming this is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrYS-XjiKgA
I hear it as recorded in the key of A, the chords being A, Bm, D and E (not necessarily in that order). Maybe an occasional E7 thrown in.
Play around with those while listening to the recording and see if you can make it work. I can get more specific if you need additional help, but this should get you started.
Good luck!

Many of you know my history in losing a child to cancer - I've spent more hours in hospitals than I care to think about.
I did not know that. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I knew I had to help. I offered my time a few months ago and they finally took me up on it. So tomorrow is my first gig. I told them I'm no guitar player, but I love kids and know that a positive attitude is essential to the healing process. I am very much looking forward to spending a few hours with them tomorrow maybe teaching a kid a chord or 2 and hopefully putting a smile on a few faces.
I beg to differ with you. You most certianly ARE a guitar player, and a darn good one from what I've seen and heard.
Anyway, I envy you the opportunity. It sounds GREAT! I can't think of a better way to use your talents than this. (1 Peter 4:10)
Please do let us know how it goes.

Re: Coffee or Tea? (43 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
3 cups in the morning = 8 cups in the coffee maker. This may sound wierd but I keep my cups lined up for the day of the week. My thursday and friday cups are bigger than sunday thru wednesday. And my saturday cup has parrots on it. If someone uses them, I have to wash them so I can use them on the right day.
Not weird at all. That sounds like more than just a little OCD. I can totally relate.
Actually, I tell people that I have CDO.
That's OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order. Just as they should be.

Does this qualify for the stupidest move ever made by a guitarist?
Not even close. I heard Tom Petty once broke his hand punching a wall and was out of commission for a while.
At least you were trying to do something constructive. Grilled cheese bagels are constructive. And tasty.
