"Excess Cement" is a GREAT name!

Bryan Adams is a very good songwriter and was very popular in the 80's and 90's. I haven't heard much of him lately though. Ryan Adams is a very good songwriter who once jumped off the stage and knocked someone out for yelling "hey, play summer of '69". Ryan Adams has been described as Alt country. He's kinda folky sometimes, rocking at others. Ryans music has been featured in several movies and has also been covered by U2 and the Corrs. I love Ryans "Gold" album and highly reccomend it. Could you post a link to the video? I'd like to see this guitar.

If you can play six songs, intro, bridges, and all, it sounds to me like your ready to jam with somebody. That person can help you assess where your playing is and what you need to focus on. That person can also show you the six songs he knows. Seeing someone play a song up close and personal can rapidly speed your learning curve. The other thing I would recommend is record yourself playing that way you can critique your own playing.

A good one to pratice is "Hey gyp" by Eric Burdon and the Animals. Its not exactly slow but you could easily slow down the tempo. The reason I say that song is because its two chords. So it could be good to pratice just switching back and forth between the two instead of having to think about which chord is next and what its shaped like.

Wait a minute! Les Pauls don't have a wammy. So your probably talking about with your fretting hand. I don't know if there is a "proper" way. B.B. King kinda shakes his whole hand using the side of his first finger kinda as a fulcrum, But I've seen plenty of people who just move a single finger up and down. So I guess its another one of those gray areas.

Hey, have you ever seen Jeff Beck, and the way he works the wammy, the volume, the tone, AND fingerpicks... all at the same time? Thats how its done! If you have a chance to see the Eric Clapton crossroads fest DVD, it shows it really well.

Yes, you could just download a bunch of backing tracks to your laptop. Plug that into your PA along with your guitar and mic, and your all set. Backing tracks are available all over the web in varying quality and arrangements.

Here is a great video of John Lee Hooker.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BtUQbblCWo&NR=1  Does he play in an open tuning? I don't recognize what chords he's playing. I always thought he played Epiphone Shearatons. This is obviously an Epi, by the headstock, But it only has one cutaway. What guitar is this?

The Ramones is my favorite band. All of thier songs are fun and easy to play. I love to make my own arrangements, slow songs fast and fast songs fingerpicked slowly. Since most of thier songs are simple three chord progressions, its easy to string two or three of them together in the same key.

Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols is still alive. AKA Johnny Lyden. Sid Vicious, bass player of the Sex Pistols met an early demise though. His life and death is told in the movie "Sid and Nancy". Not suitable for children. I too have always wondered about that line in Neils song.

Check out how much BB King can say with three notes. Subtle first finger bends with heavy vibrato on the last note are his speciality. SRV wouldn't settle on a measly half step and even a full bend wasn't enough for him. He'd bend two hole steps, and I've been told he used heave guage strings to boot!

I've always liked Alison Krauss and LZ goes without saying. I always thought the combination was a little wierd though. I guess I've held a bit of a grudge against the pair thinking Plant should be out with Led Zepplin, But after hearing thier performance I think I need to check it out. Yes The sound T bone had as well as some of the stuff on youtube sounds real good.

What is the guitar that T bone Burnett was playing with Alison Krause and Robert Plant? It looked like an acoustic guitar, size wise, but it had no sound hole. Lipstick tube pick ups, kind of a stripped tortise shell pickguard white knobs, big block inlays on the neck but I saw no name or design on the headstock. Any help?

check out    http://www.farmerfootdrums.com/    but really if its a small gig you could get by on your guitar ,a small acoustic amp (the kind with an input for a vocal mic) mic and stand. If its larger your going to need a PA at least.
If its just going to be you and an acoustic guitar, songs can have a tendency to start sounding all alike. Make sure you arrange your set list to vary in tempo, styles, artists, etc.
I think SouthPaw41L has a thread on here which is basically his journal of his performances. You'll have to look for it but he goes into specific details about how he set up for that gig and why as well as things like "I played these songs because it was a younger audience or those songs because it was a rowdy audience. By the way, if your reading this SouthPaw41L, I loved that thread.

You could tune down a half step, or even a whole step. Try lighter gauge strings or maybe flatwound strings. Do you play electric or acoustic. Electrics are easier to play due to string tension. I'm not exactly sure but I think shorter scale lengths are supposed to have less tension on them too.

When I was in high school ('90) I had a girlfriend out in the country. I had to take some winding backcountry hilly road to get to her house and as soon as I would turn onto that road I would put in Joe Satriani "Flying in a blue dream". Flat out, Tires squealin, Gear jammin and slammin. That song was perfect. Everytime I hear that song I can completely envision that road every turn every hill every shift

Black Crowes, Buffalo Springfield ( BOOM extra points for one name two places and one animal) The Byrds, The Crickets, The Eagles, Fishbone, Galactic, The Georgia Satellites, Linkin Park, Souixie and the Banshees, MC5 (motor city five)(motor city is Detroit) New York Dolls, Phish, Reel Big Fish, Das Scorpions, Snoop Dogg, Stray cats, Three Dog Night, Tiger Army, The Toadies,

You said you had an rp 150. I think the rp 250 connects via usb cable to your computer for recording or downloading patches from thier user forum. It even comes with software to edit parameters. I think. Don't quote me. Check out thier web site. People also put stuff on you tube.

DO IT!! We all could use more people to jam with. You tube is a great tool, as well as Chordie. I saw a guy at an open mic night who had been playing only about a year and was far better than me. I've been playing almost 20 now.

Even a properly set up acoustic is harder to play than an electric. The string tension on an acoustic is higher than on an electric making it harder to fret notes or barre. For your barre chords try rolling your barre finger to the left a little to get on the bony part of your finger(if your playing right handed) With that said, I would never give up playing my acoustic. Trying to find the right effect or tone can be maddening when all you want to do is kick out the jams. An acoustic can go from fingerpicking James Taylor to windmilling Pete Townsend power chords in the very next song with no change. Get your set up checked by a pro, but dont be afraid to go electric like Dylan did. Look where it got him!

Elixirs sound great and have some "exclusive nano poly web" somthing or other that makes them last longer.
