I used many guitar amps from a Fender Super Reverb, Super Twin Reverb up to a Super Six. These are good for bands of any size. You mic 'em in a concert situation.
Now that I work mostly alone, I prefer a P.A. system. I have a Peavey 6000 350 watt, six channel input driver and two columns with 10 inch speakers and horns. I saved two 300 watt J.B.L. EONs from my big system to add to that if I need to really honk outside. I can use the basic system for monitors and turn the EONs up to painful.
With a P.A. you can mic anything but bass guitar. I can run three microphones, two guitars and a djembe drum and everything comes through sounding great.
When I work alone I use a Korg guitar effects pedal, my Gibson 330 in one channel and a SM58 Mic through a T.C.Helicon vocal processor in another channel.
I use one Eon with the 15 inch speaker up 50% and the horn turned off to mic my tuba with a SM57 on a tripod boom stand.
Big sound.

My musical life seems to be a series of plateaus. I wind up in a rut and then something wonderful happens and it's off to the races for a good while.

OUCH!  Well, we'll excuse you if you can't manage to hold a pick and just want to sit back and "moderate" the jam.  That sucks!  I have managed to develop some serious fret buzz today.  My guitar is likely dried out like no one would believe, although it is laminate top.  I adjusted the truss rod a little and got rid of *most* of the buzz.  I guess I'll just have to sing louder to drown it out.

MKM, If your bridge is adjustable, loosen your strings and raise it a little bit until the buzz stops.

You're no wannabe, Pete. You can play.
I am lucky some people gave me a chance when I was just getting started. Now I'm too darn old to shred.

A Drinking Game:
You say this one line at a time, adding a line each go round and everybody at your table has to repeat it perfectly with no mispronunciations. Anybody messes up has to chug their drink.

One hen
Two ducks
Three cackling geese
Four olympic oysters
Five corpulent porpoises
Six pairs of Dinah Frago's favorite tweezers
Seven hundred Macedonian knights in full battle array
Eight parapatetic, parapalegic old ladies in wheel chairs
Nine ancient Egyptian mummies brought back from the secret sacred crypts of ancient egypt.
Ten titillating Tarantula spiders tip toeing down Tenth Avenue on a tuesday afternoon

If you get through all this sober, you be super human!

Triangular picks are nice because you have three playing tips. It doesn't matter which way you pick it up. You have two more tips if one breaks.

I spent a year at a Benedictine Monastery at age 15-16.
They played music over a sound system constantly- 33 records.
Chet Adkins tunes are the only albums I enjoyed.

The larger music stores usually employ a guy to fix amps, speakers etc...and advise you with gear problems. Usually there is one pickup day per week at the store if he works at home or a day when he is there to advise us and make our problems go away.
Call stores and see what day to catch him.

P.S. Sounds like your speakers have bitten the dust. Tell the man what you are using for a driver and he can recommend speakers that match what you have.

They have a crosshatch top and appear to be made of nylon.

I can get PURPLE ones at a reasonable price.
Gonna try some. Thank you AccoustikNoyz.

I had a 12 string Yamaha dreadnought guitar with the nut broken where the first string groove was. My buddy (with busted up hands) needed an easy playing acoustic guitar so I put six nylon strings on the old Yamaha
and gave it to him.
I was surprised how nice the Yamaha sounded with nylon strings and how easily it played.
He traded it for a nice Ibanez we both liked better.

Check the lower right corner and see how many hits his videos get.
Some run over a million views. MGM makes a living doing this.

After forty plus years playing mostly rock, I like nylon picks because the cross hatch on the top gives a bit more grip - especially with fingers that may be moist after hoisting a cold beer. Nylon picks wear down evenly and rarely crack and break on the end like plastic ones do.
Like you, Sonnya, I play a dreadnought with a cedar top that can be quite loud. A slim nylon pick gives me better control over volume dynamics - so I can play loud and soft and not have to sing so loudly.
A thicker nylon pick will yield some natural distortion from my old Yamaha if I pound hard on it as I often do.

I think he makes two videos a week - Tuesdays and Thursdays.
