Zurf, I won't be the one to tell you to practice. I haven't picked up a guitar in 2 weeks so I feel your pain. Don't know what's wrong with me but it does sound that you have your challenges laid out for yourself. I guess my problem is not knowing where I want to go (learn) next. Last time I played I did notice that 3 of the wound strings on my 12'r had seperated at the bridge so I do need to change out my strings. Just need to get off my arse and get it done. Why don't you do the same?

Last year, when all the hummingbirds would swarm the feeder, I would go out and stand real still next to it and I have had them lite on my shoulders, head and arms. Our feeder(s) are made where they can light on them while they sip the "nectar" and usually there ia one that will stay there and try to chase all the others away. Our biggest problem is with the honey bees finding the feeders and taking them over.
Nela
We have 2 male hummingbirds already coming to our feeder, this year. Last year there was over 20 coming to the 1 feeder we had out. This year we plan on placing a couple of more feeders out.

In Louisiana it's against the law to hold "fake" wrestling matches.
Also, it's against the law to steal crawfish or alligators, punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.

Would love to be there but it's just gonna be too far for me. Thanks for the invite.

Beamer, guitar lust is not good. It can cause many ailments such as cramps, twitches, fits, farts and freckles. Be very careful, my friend. If you happen to be in GC, and get overcome with the "lust" thay won't be a good thing. Be sure to carry a towel with if you plan to try out the guitar. They have put a "drool" policy in affect and, depending on the amount of "slobber" you leave on the guitar you may have to make a purchase you are not wanting to make at this time. Be very, very careful.

Old boots hits home for me. Nice poem, TF. I, just now. pulled on a pair of Luchase black Ostrich skin boots that I've had for 20+ years and they still feel great. I gave over $300.00 for them in the early 90's. Have had them re-soled a couple of times but that was only due to the mileage I put on them. Got my eye on a new pair of brown Ostrich skin boots, now, and just as soon as I can arrange for a bank loan I'ma gonna get them.

Don't everyone get the wrong idea. I'm still active, do a lotta things I wanna do and some I'm not supposed to do. Have my good days and have my bad days but I kinda take them as they come. It's mind over matter - if you don't mind it don't matter. Sitting here drinking coffee, now, and just as soon as I get full I'm going outside, cranking up my tractor, changing out my cultivator for my middle buster and plowing my garden while the weather is good. Then I'll probally clean out the horse stall if I feel like it, if I don't it'll wait until tomorrow. Working on a couple of new songs for Friday nite (playing out with friends), Before you kill us all by Randy Travis and Mirror Mirror by Diamond Rio. Gotta get the key right for my wife to sing and get our timing down pat. Staying busy is what it's all about.
Bill, come on over.

DE, at times like this it's very hard to express your feelings. Your comments, concerning your friend, were well spoken and expressed with love and kindness. Remember all the good times and cherish them.

My doctors are well aware of what the drug I'm taking for kidney cancer is doing to me. I keep them well informed and provide daily reports of my blood sugar readings, blood pressure readings and anything else the doctors may need. In November 2012 I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer and during surgury at M D Anderson Hospital it was discovered that it had spead to my pancreas, lungs and lymph nodes. During the sutrgery my left kidney and the "tail' of the pancreas was removed. I was taken to the recovery room where it was later discovered I was still bleeding inside and was taken back to the operating room. This time my spleen was removed. I stayed a week in the hospital before I was released then told I needed to stay locally for another week before I attempted the 350 mile drive home. After 2 days I went home. When I got home I was very sick, could not eat anything, hurting and just about completly out of it. I was home for 5 days, hurting so bad I could not stand it, when my wife made me go to the emergency room at our local hospital. No way could I have made another trip back to M D Anderson. then. What was discovered at my local hospital was I was still bleeding internally + I was leaking pancreatic "juice" in my abdominal cavity. I was put on a morphine diet and spent the next 8 days not knowing who I was or who anyone else was. After the doctors finally found out what was happening there was nearly 2 liters of fluid drained from my abdomin(sp) and I began feeling better. Through all this I lost nearly 65 pounds and put my wife and family thru hell with worry. Both before and after the surgury the doctors in Houston had told us to not expect more than about 2 years - that was 2 1/2 years ago. All things considered, side affects and everything, I am doing good now. My kidney and pancreas is clear as well as my lungs. There are still signs of the cancer in my lymph nodes but there is no growth I am told at all my scans (treatments) at M D Anderson that everything is shrinking and they are pleased with the results. This medicine I'm taking fior the kidney cancer has a host of side affects and I believe I am suffering every one. I have been on this medicine for 2 1/2 years and that is the longest anyone has been associated with this clinical trial. The medicine is working and doing what it is supposed to do so I'll gladly suffer any and all the side affects that comes with this drug, I am being monitered every 3 months with blood work, x-rays and scans. I provide reports of my daily issues to my doctors in Houston, my diabeties doctor and my cardiac doctor. I still don't have a whole lotta engery and am not able to do everything I want to do but I do enjoy what I do do. I work in the yard, plant a garden each year, fish, hunt, play my music and love my wife, family and friends. I just do it slowly. My biggest problem now is controlling my blood sugars. There is no rhyme or reason to the high and low readings I have other than my medications. I just visited with my doctor and it looks like I may be getting an insulin pump. Might not be a bad thing and since all my ductibles and out of pockek medical expenses are paid up it will be free. And as you can see by the length of this post I do have a lot of free time. Ya'll come and see me.
Nela
I, too, am on a clinical trial. I don't get paid for taking the medicing but I do get it free. Each day I take 17 different pills + 5 shots. Most day's I feel like crap and it's not due to any illness but due to the side affects of what I'm taking. The medicine I'm taking with the clinical causes me to have nose bleeds several times a day. I will get a skin rash if I stay out in the sun too long, my blood sugars are difficult to control, fluid will build up in my lungs causing "new-mon-ia" like symptoms, coughing, shortness of breath + a whole lotta other things. I used to be a very active person = hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and a host of other activities. Now I have to take it easy and after any outings I have to rest for a couple of days. With my garden, I'm ok as long as I'm on my tractor but it takes me several days plant and harvest everything. Haven't gotten to do any hunting in the last couple of years due to being in the hospital during hunting season with the "new-mon-ia" and I really miss that. I fish as much as I can but really need someone to go with me. Anyway, life is wonderful.

Pinch da tails and suck da heads.
The heads, on good crawfish, ar'a full of fat. That be's where the flavor comes from so if you don't wanna suck da head ya use yore little finger to scoop out da fat and suck on dat.
Tray of crawfish and a bottle of Pearl pop with da foam on top = jus don' get any bedder.

The "adult toy store".
You mean where you buy porno videos, edible panties, lubricants, scented condoms, whips, leather, hand cuffs, dildos, strap-ons, vibrators, penis enhancements, pantless crotchies and stuff?
Bill
Nope. I mean a tool store. I've got a lot more use for a good set of pliers than any of that other stuff.
Bill, when Zurf said he "diddled" with fingerpicks I don't think he was really diddling.
Zurf, a little tip I read somewhere about finger picking a 12 string requires reworking the nut and the bridge of your guitar. If you will hold up your guitar and sight across the strings you will see that the octave strings of the E, A, D & G strings are even along the bottom of the strings. This won't allow to have a good "attack" angle on the strings with your nails or finger picks. Getting the nut and bridge reworked so all strings are even across the top makes it easier to get to the octave strings. Can't remember just where I read this but I think I was just searching sites for finger picking a 12 string guitar. Talk to a guitar tech and get his comments on this. The article I read said to be sure and keep ypur old bridge and nut just in case you didn't like this set-up so you could change back. All this takes is a little time and money.

they are higher than a camels butt. If you buy them already boiled you can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $6.00 a pound for them. If you buy them live, by the sack, they will cost you $4.00 / pound. All you can eat, in a resturant, that'll cost you around $50.00 per person depending on how many beers it takes to wash everything down. Me. I think I'll wait until after Easter as the price usually goes down to a where you dont have to "float" a loan just to eat them. A sack of select crawfish weighs around 33 to 35
pounds and when we have a "boil" we usually go through at least 4 sacks + all the extra's that go with them.
Ummmmmmmmm, mudbugs!!!

Old school. I print out the songs, put them in a clear protector and place in a 3 ring binder. I make multible copies so if I am out playing with others and they don't know the song I can give them a copy. Since I don't sing I "rewrite" the song so it can be sung by a woman, if needed. My wife handles all the singing and dioes a very good job of it. Most songs hosted on Chordie or other sites all have errors in them. You need to listen to a recording and change the words and chords, as needed, so they match. If it's one thing I hate is "white-out" on the screen of my laptop or tablet.

Weather man is saying it going to get up to 82 degrees today. My wife has been after me to fertilize the lawn so I got the horse tied out in the back yard - he'll take care of that while he eats grass. May do a little tractor work later today and clean out the horse stall. Right now I'm going to eat a late breakfast and then get ready
for a nap.

Muting the strings as TF said is good advice as well as DS's comments. Always keep a pick with you so you can pratice anywhere you can listen to the song. As you listen to a song try counting the beats per measure of the song. That'll be the strum pattern. Some basic patterns are;
3/4 timing 1 - 2 - & - 3 - repeat
4/4 timing 1 -2 - 3 -4 - repeat
1 - & - 2 - & - 3 - & - 4 - & - repeat ( typical blues pattern)
1 - 2 - & - 3 - & - 4 - & - repeat (very common pattern)
These are some useful patterns that you can start with but you are not limited to them. Play what you hear. If you know someone who you can play with or get some lessons from that would be very helpful. Playing with others and paying attention to what they are doing is a very usefull tool. Maybe the most important.
Keep practicing as you listen to a song, count the beats from the bass guitar or drums in your head and apply that to the strum pattern. Keep us informed on how you are progressing.

Nice n pretty here. Tree's beginning to bud out. Ground a little wet so I can't turn my garden over. Got more rain predicted for later this week. My boat is in the shop so I can't go phishing. Got 3 songs by Diamond Rio printed out so I'll start learning them later today. Coffee pot is full so I'm working on emptying it. If I get time I may take out my pocket knife and trim my toenails.Maybe watch a little TV. Take a nap. Gonna be a busy day for me.

This is not meant to disrespect, harm or cause issues with anyone but;
Last night, after my wife got home from work, she wanted to go out and eat some Chinese food. There is a local Chinese resturant in our hometown that we used to go too all the time so we decided to go there. We we got there, walked in and found everything was clean, bright, friendly with had a nice crowd. We were seated, ordered our drinks and then proceeded directly to the buffet. While strolling down the line looking at the General Poa's chicken, fried rice and the egg drop soup there was a big ole pan of Enchilada's. Then there was a few dishes of stir fry veggies and right next to them was a big platter of tortilla's. When we got down to the sauce's and discovered we could get some Hot Mistard, Salsa or Pico de Gallo to go on our egg rolls. After going back to our table and eating a few bites we found everything to be VERY good. While we were enjoying our meal I happened to look up and guess what I saw - a Hispanic chef making the Sushi! Now, I won't touch Sushi with YOUR chopsticks much less mine but I just had to say - SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE.
All things considered, the meal was very good and after we got home no one got the squirts or had to go to the bathroom to call RALPH. Would we go back and eat there? YEAH, it was good food and good service.

The first thing I do after I get out of bed is to visit the throne room and contemplate of the day's activities. Then I proceed to the kitchen and make coffee. Let the dog out and go to the barn to feed and turn the horse out. When I get back in the house the coffee's ready and I have my 1st cup or the day. Then I will turn the computer on and check out what's going on with Chordie and the AGF. I will usually go to my reclyner, turn the TV on and watch the news and local weather. By this time my wife is up and I have her refill my coffee cup. We will sit and talk while drinking coffee and discuss all the worlds problems. After the news we turn the TV to the Maury Show or Jerry Springer to see if there is anyone on there that we might know. My wife will fix us some breakfast - love the bisquits n tomater gravy with bacon then she will start getting ready for work. I'll have another coffee with breakfast. After breakfast I will visit the throne room again (damn coffee) then begin my day of piddling. I'll piddle some outside then I'll piddle some inside, maybe play my guitar some, make another pot of coffee and have a cup. Sit in the reclyner and see if there is a good western movie I haven't seen. Drink another cup of coffee. Later in the day I'll piddle some more in the yard, maybe piddle some in the house. Make a sandwich and drink a diet coke. If I happen to be piddling in the yard and can't make it to the throne room I will pee in the yard. After my wife get's home from work I may have another cup of coffee then eat a bite of supper. Maybe a little TV or play a little music while my wife sings a song or 2. Then it's one last visit to the throne room and then bed. Maybe / maybe not a little more piddling then it's the next morning and I start everything all over.

UGB, I see where you have a "97 Winchester in 12 guage made in 1910, I have a Sweet 16 '97 Winchester made in 1907 (per the serial number). It's in near perfect condition. Also, have a Model 8A Remington in 300 Savage that was made in the early 1900's. It's a "takedown" model and is one of the early stages of auto loading rifles made by Remington. Only thing it's missing is the elevation bar for the rear sight. I can replace it but I want to find a "period" correct one and they are very hard to find.
