I'd go for 'Jesus of Suburbia' - Green Day.
'Hound Dog' by Elvis is another possibility though, if you're after an older one.

Another one to add to the banned list: Smoke on the Water.

SO I did some experimenting and learned that if you use this shape:

l-x
l-x
l-x
l-3-
l-3-
l-1-
and slide it to different positions on the fret board, you can make any chord you want and it gives it a nice 'heavy' sound..... perhaps I have discovered a power chord? I don't know much about this kind of thing and I call everything by the wrong names...
ANYWAY, for this song you use this 'power chord' thingy instead of the full chords.

Yes, that's a power chord, or more accurately a 5th chord.
There's also another one which is:

l-x
l-x
l-3-
l-3-
l-1-
l-x-

And works exactly the same way. I know 'cause it's one of the few chords I can play! lol

That's easy: Gibson Les Paul.

A close second would be the Gibson Firebird.

Well i think the first electic-guitar is an telecaster. Then an great man named Paul Les made the legendary Les Paul model. Then the stratocaster came, thats my favorite exept for the Gibson SG that also is an very good model.

The Broadcaster (now known as a Telecaster) was the first commercially available electric guitar, it's unknown who made the first electric guitar. I know you could get Electric hawaiian guitars in the 1930s.

Hey Tibernus, If you have a cam chances are it has a mic built in. All the ones I've seen do but things could be diffrent in other parts of the world... Sometimes it's not the best quality audio but it works. All I use is a Logitech Quickcam 2 ($40). Nothing fancy but it works... I plan to get a recorder in the next couple of weeks though and that will allow me to run my good mics straight into the pc. Peace!

I see. To be honest I'd forgotten that some/most have them built in. hmm

You'd need a mic as well wouldn't you?

hey daddycool, I am by no means the authority here, but I thought I would try to answer your question. I believe you would have to post your song at another web site and then request chordie link to that site / song. Other admins - please chime in if I am incorrect.

From the FAQ:

I am an artist, and would like to have my songs listed on Chordie. How?
Make it available online in chopro-format. Here is an example of a song in this format. You will most likely be able to write this in a text editor like Notepad, but there are some graphical tools available as well. When you've done that, send me the address, and I will include it in Chordie.

You normally get some space for a website along with your ISP, if you'd prefer to host your songs on your own website.

Good song. Very good song. I reckon a sped-up Punk version would sound good, what do you think? hmm
I always have trouble with the rythm for songs posted here, it always seems completely different to whoever posted it... lol

That sounds like a stomp box to me, which usually have a switch that stays on until you push it again to switch it off. (don't know what the technical term for that is)

The tuner winder thing for removing pegs works pretty good for me.  I found my football bat not to be as useful.  First, I had a terrible time getting the darn thing down off the ceiling to train it and then it wanted to do the whole thing without using his hands.  Last time I import a football bat from Great Britain.  Besides, it kept wanting biscuits, but every time I gave him some he screamed about hating sourdough and wondering where the sugar biscuits went.

lol

I normally take all of the strings off at once, because that way I can tell which ones are the old ones.

Dunlop makes a puller, bottle cap opener that works great for both tasks.  You don't have to use leverage like you do with the ones at the end of string winders so you don't mess up your bridge.  Think I got mine from Musicians Friend for about $5.00.  It's just a notch that grabs the pin and you pull straight out.

I'll have to have a look for one of those. I just hope I can find somewhere in the UK that sells it though.

If you want an Electro-Acoustic I'd say to go with Tanglewood, they're basically the more expensive version of Cort (the current cort guitars used to be the cheap range of Tanglewoods), and the Cort ones are very good. A bit expensive for me but they sound great.

Nice, watsonchad.

Anyone have advice on pegs? I seem to be unable to get them out without scuffing up the bridge, and I find it difficult to get them in tight enough (I am always afraid I will push my hand right through the top, and end up with the pre-mature Willie Nelson look.

Good question, I had to change the strings on my acoustic and had a bit of trouble getting them out...i ended up using some pliars, which marked the edges of the pins...

Huh? hmm

I've seen a chord chart for a Major 9th and it looks nothing like a Major 7th. Or maybe I'm looking at the wrong chart. wink

Indianaguitarman.com had a few finish blems on blowout for $60 so I picked one up.

$60 is about £30. Shame the P&P would be a lot.

I have:

An Unbranded LP copy (made of mahogany) which I had for my 18th birthday (cost about £70),
A Cort Acoustic (bottom of the range, cost about £120, also for my 18th),
A now non-functioning Encore strat-shape single-humbucker which I had for my 5th birthday,
And I've almost finished building a Strat Copy from a kit I got off eBay. Alder body, Maple neck, not bad for £40. big_smile

I'm thinking of replacing the pickups on the LP and Strat with Wilkinson Alnico pickups, anyone know if they're any good?

You can get several different designs of Cort electro-acoustic for around £200 each, they're definitely worth trying.

Tune the E string down until it sounds  the same as the D string but 1 octave lower.

Or you can tune the 6th string down so that the 6th string at the 7th fret sounds the same as the open 5th string.

Wow ok ... it's weird because I bar the 1, 2, 3 strings and it sounds like crap ... unless I'm just used to the standard 5/6 string powerchord

Have you tuned the guitar properly? One thing I tend to do is tune the 6th string down one fret instead of two, which sounds horrible. It has to be two frets lower.
You've probably tuned it properly but I know it's easy to tune it incorrectly.

If you want heavy try tuning the guitar a tone (2 frets) lower, then dropping the 6th string by another 2 frets. Sounds great on a Les Paul copy. big_smile

Does anyone here know if you can finish a guitar with Acrylic paint instead of Cellulose? And if you can what kind of varnish you could use on top of it?

Looks like you've answered your own question. Theory is essential to understanding music not playing it. Just 'cause someone knows all of the theory doesn't mean they can play.

I learnt to play first, I'm now learning the theory because I want to start writing my own music. If I'd have started by learning theory I never would have learnt to play the guitar.
