My first ime playing a song for someone was about 2 years ago. My wife had asked me to learn a song for her so i learned Must Be doing Something Right by Billy Currington. She liked it and it made me feel accomplished. Now I play and sing for her all the time. Now i'm working on writting her a song to play for her on our 15th anniversary in January. She hears me working on it every night and now she can't wait to hear the whole song. Since then i've played for my family and friends every time i get the chance and it feels great.

You could try some of the brass bridge pins to brighten it up and try to use a pick. You will always get a brighter sound from a pick. Don't give up on the beauty just yet. I'm sure some of the others on here will have better answers.

Choose any song by any artist that she likes and is in her playing capability and capo it for her vocal range. It works for me.

Zguitar it will be hard to find any brand of a/e guitar for less than $300 that will very good. I have an idea that you might come out just as good to buy a good set of tuning heads and a acoustic pickup for your old ibanez. A good set up with a little upgrading bridge pins, nut/saddle replacement can be a lot cheaper than buying another guitar and could prove to be better than any new a/e guitar that you could afford. Last year I wanted a new a/e with the solid top and bought one and spent $500 for a Takamine that now just sits in it's case most of the time unless I feel the need to plug in. I have a Jasmine S-35 Takamine i paid $100 for 10 yrs ago that i'm loving even better now that i did a little upgrading to. It has aged beautifully and I like it better than any guitar from any brand that i've tried that is priced less than $ 1200. But to suggest looking for any new guitar in the range of $300 or less i can only suggest the Fender Telecoustic if you want a thin bodied guitar that exels plugged in or the TBucket 300 for a Dreadnought size. I've tried both and even though niether of the two has a solid top they sound just as good. I wish you the best on your search because i've been there in the same situation. Oh and remember that an acoustic electric guitar will only sound as good as the acoustic amp you get for it when it's plugged in. Good Luck.

I wouldn't give up on epiphone too quickly. For your budget the Epiphone makes a nice EJ200ce that is just as good as the Takamine G's. It's a jumbo so it's all about what fits you the best. If that doesn't fit you the Mastercraft series from Epiphone are really nice for just a little more.

Bimmam I've tried the PR5E and i liked it but found better for the same price. If we knew how much you are looking to spend it would help to see where to look. In that price range the Takamine G series guitars are worth a look and you could try ebay and posibly find a really good deal on a used solid top
Good Luck.

I never thought i'd play anything by Bob Marley because i've never been much for Reggea music. But when you put a country twist on them they come together nicely. Three Little Birds is one of my favorites now.

Punk worship is sometimes a good combination. The group Stellar Kart does this and they are a really good band. I guess it's what you like if weather or not it suits your style of worship. For me i'll stick with the contemporary/rock it works better to slow the flow of music and emotions.

Welcome to Chordie Pastor Laurence and Ngeruu.
I am glad to see other guitar playing believers in the forums. I play every so often at church  but mostly at home and get alot of joy from doing so. There are alot of good and easy songs of faith to be found and played on this site. If there's any doubt on the strumming for them just play it as you feel it and it will come to you eventually.

I think Hank Williams Jr has a few. Not sure which ones though.

Grace like Rain is one of Todd Agnews best songs and i play it capoed on the 2nd fret transposed in the key of G = EM, C, G, D with an altered Dmaj2, Dmaj4 in the second and fourth line of each verse. Then on the chorus an improvised augmented D before the solo which is the same as the verses. I know it's not the way it's recorded but it sounds good to me.

For me i just have the love for playing guitar. Coming here and to other guitar forums keep me wanting to learn more.I can say that since i've started browsing the music forums i have found a deeper love for playing and i can hardly wait to grab my guitar and bang out some tunes on a daily basis. Every day i learn more and more and as i master each lick or progression i feel more and more confident and satisfied with my playing.

Pix i think you've got it cut out for you. I wish you all the best with the lessons. As for the songs can they be newer contemporary styled or do they need to stay more on the hymnal side? I suggest looking at the religious songbooks on here. There are lots of good songs that are easy 3 chord songs. Good luck

bigrinwv when and if you choose to sand down the saddle be sure to remove it carefully from the bridge. With it being an acoustic electric if it has the under saddle pickups you could damage the connections between it and the pickup. If the saddle is OEM plastic don't bother shaving it and just get another to shave because with time plastic becomes brittle and you stand a bigger chance of breaking it. I've learned all of this the hard way but i did save myself a set up fee and now i have confidence to do my own set ups. good Luck

I use the Dunlop tortex .50mm for strumming and a 1.0 tortoise shell for picking. The Dava control pick is another one i use that has the feel of a thin pick but the bite of a thick one.

What is the tonal difference in bone vs tusq and are there any other inexpensive materials that are used that are good choices for replacing nut and saddles? The reason i ask is i just broke the OEM saddle on my 9yr old Taki while sanding it down to lower the action and i'm looking to upgrade.

Third Day's self titled album was the album that helped me realize that all christian music doesn't have to sound like grandmas hymns. It has really opened me up to more Christian bands of different genres and has a big part in my playing style now as a Christian guitarist.

I agree with upyerkilt. None of us could play without strings and some sort of amplifier for those of us that choose to play electric.

Hang in there Zurf. The sun will shine again and all of your problems will be gone for a while anyways. Rest well and get over your cold before you have much more to worry about.
