Nice board Russell. I'm a chess addict, so much so that i play it on my phone when I'm away from from home and hava few spare minutes. But there is nothing nicer than playing on a quality board tho.

Being in New Zealand we celebrated it first - it is now 11.49am New Years morning, so it has been and gone, and now I have the hangover to show for it. Just a barbecue and drinks at home with friends to see in the New Year

Have a good one Chordyites!

Wow! Not much to add to all the great advice. But music has to be the greatest expression of joy, and at the other end the best medicine for pain. Just play - your soul will lift with each new day and each new note!

I'm also a Floyd fan from the early days. Now I enjoy getting out the 12 string and playing them.

A Black day for Rugby.. all the way.
A real nailbiter tho right to the end. Had to have a whisky during to calm me nerves, and and another one at the end to celebtrate the win!

I've just restrung my 12. I've not had a problem breaking them, but a couple of things: its best to leave the last couple of turns for a while to let the strings adjust to the tensions before you wind up to the right notes; second you should take off and replace each string individually, rather than take them all off at once. That way the pressure on the neck doesn't go from high to zero and back to high tension again.

You need a good quality capo, because the high octave strings are smaller gauge than than adjacent low octave ones, and a cheap capo often won't put enough pressure on them all equally.

I've got a Walden 12 string, which for a mid price guitar it has the clarity and warmth of a more expensive 12. Really happy with it.

I used to break them all the time when I used the lights even new strings, now I go real slow on the last few turns, and I use safety goggles as I have been hit in the face a few times. I have been too the emergency room twice for my eyes getting hit be a rock off a mower and a guitar string.

You shouldn't be mowing your grass and playing your guitar at the same time...!

Any Bee Gees song, my favorite is I started a joke.

Abba - Waterloo and Take a chance on me.

I have to admit I am a closet Bee Gees fan as well, love the richness of their melodies and harmonies. Feelgood songs.

Love the Carpenters too - Karen's voice is like good well aged single malt whisky, has velvet sexy smoothness that is unequaled.

There, I've come out! Damn that feels good!

had to restring my 12 string the other day, what a job! Many, many bad words... But its all worth it. You dont realise how dead strings get untill you fit some new ones and a whole new beautiful world opens up!

Im an ENZEDDER amd looking forward to the RWC. It takes your mind of all the other miserable bullshit going on in the world like the US not being able to afford next weeks meal ticket. I dont care who wins as long as its fast exciting rugby.

I am in New Zealand, and because we are next to the international date line it was supposed to hit us first. I can safely inform the world that it hasnt happened yet, So keep on plucking for now... but one day....
So be kind to each other, and enjoy the music.

Sorry to butt in on a convo between you guys, but i'm a fanatical fly fisher as well. I'm down in New Zealand. My favourite river is the Tongariro which comes down fast and icy cold off a volcanic plateau and is the home to some great rainbow trout. I love the solitude and the battle wits with a cunning trout that fly fishing provides, followed by a hot pie and a pint of beer at the local bar. Heaven on earth!

As the original cause of all this disharmony amongst our big chordie family, all i can say is that it was not intended to pluck the wrong string of anyone, and that Russ is entitled to say how he feels, and I certainly took no offence, nor was any intended.

The great Bard is 251 today. His poems, many of which have been turned into songs that many of us have played and sung are as popular today as they ever were.

So like i did last night much to the detriment of my brain cells today, go out and celebrate him and sing and play with a generous accompaniment of whisky.

Wow RussH thats a bit OTT. There was not an ounce of criticism or comparison in my post, merely an observation that there was another version of the song worth looking at. After all, God forbid that we should all play a song the same way as if it was guitar karaoke.

By the way I enjoyed your song.

For those of you familiar with Runrig, they do a fantastic folk/rock version of this which traditionally they always end their live concerts with. The Stirling Castle 2004 concert finale version is my favourite - worth getting the DVD if you are into rock with a strong celtic flavour.

Back on the public toilet theme. Many years ago i walking into the mens toilet and stood there doing my business, and this guy came and stood at the adjacent urinal. And as you do, i starting up a casual conversation with this guy. Well when "he" replied, I literally wet myself - it was a very nice looking blond girl standing there smiling sweetly, totally unselfconscious about the situation.

I totally lost my usual cool self and fled...

I use Norton, i have found it very effective since i haven't been hit yet, though i know from looking into the antvirus scan activity log, many have tried and failed.

Trouble with Norton is that it is such a huge program it takes up a lot of memory and it slows down your computer, compared with some of the lesser known brands. But slow is probably the lesser evil to getting hit by a nasty virus or worm. So I'll be interested to see what others say on this one.

I love the Pogues as well. St paddys nite at our place is always full of Pogues songs. I play quite a few of them, but with the Pogues you can never do a really good imitation of that raw irishness (unless you are!really drunk adn so is everyone else) so why try copy them, just learn the songs well and play in your own style -they aer still magic!
