Re: Got the words. How do I find the chords? (7 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Well I dont know how everyone else does it, but I write both at the same time, and I find the chords are most important.
I dont write a song untill I have a rough tune in my head which I can work from, change some of it and fit some words into the melody.
In my oppinion you've done it backwards, but some others on here might do it the same way and might be able to help you out.

Thanks for the comments Roger, next time I record something I'll take the mic round to the other side of my desk because its pretty near to my guitar.

Re: Is My struggle typical? (23 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Ive been playing a few months and had this problem at the start!
Now i dont have the problem and can relax my hand and still play the chords fine.
The best advice i could give is to make sure your wrist is infront of the fret board and push pretty hard into the strings, you'll get sore fingers and it will be like this for a while but after a few months you'll start to wonder why you found this difficult!

Re: What should I call this song??? (19 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Ok, heres my version of the song,I know im not a great player and the crappy mic im using isnt the best for recording.
Caould I get some feedback on this as I find my songwriting pretty important to me, and Id like to know if there was anything I could do to spice up my playing a bit?

its pretty easy, its like G and D for the verse with a wee C thrown in, and the same for the chorus.

superb thread this and very popular already.
I have just turned 37 end of Feb. started playing Bass when I was 13 or 14, played in a few bands, gave that up, got married got a couple of weans ( children)
Started playing acoustic when I met my wife,14 years ago. her dad had one and I learned on that then got my own.
I started writing my own songs practically straight away as I could not play covers apart from knocking on heavens doors so I started doing my own then covers.
I now play, the acoustic guitar ,and trying to play the Uke, mandolin, jew harp, kazoo, tambourine, couple of tom drums, the bodhran ( a big celtic drum)
My wife plays the violin. We have jamming sessions with a mate on a friday night and do a lot of irish and scottish traditional music until I belt out a few acoustic punk songs.

I bet that goes down well

Ok, Im havin a real problem here, I can only play barre chords with my guitar upside down, this is pretty screwed up but i dont have the power in my left hand to play them correctly!
Does anyone else find that they need to do this or am i being a freek as usual?

Re: I hate my electric guitar (39 replies, posted in Electric)
My desire is to play, but I hate the sound of electric because I only have a small practice amp and no real need for an electric guitar at all, I only bought it because I wanted it and the novelty had kind of worn off now.
I'll stick to my acoustic till I can play a bit better then who knows, I might enjoy playing electric.
