What is the difference between distortion and overdrive. I remember hearing somewhere that distortion does something to the input and overdrive does something to the output or vice versa. This is probably completey wrong. Also ive picked up along the way somewhere that distortion gives a sound thats used mostly for metal and heavy music and overdirve gives a more bluesy sound and is used in some rock bands such as led zepplin.

This is the best value for money pedal i have ever seen! It has 40 built in effects and it has the potential for you to make a another 40. You can combine different effects and the parameters of each effect with ilterally millions of combinations! It also has an inbuilt drum machine and tuner. And do you know how much it is?

only $100. Anyone looking for a chaep but quality pedal should look no further.

Im working  on a new song which actually has words this time <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_eek.gif" border=0 alt="Shocked">  Sorry I haven't contactacted you James about the progress of our song. Ive been asked to play guitar for a group of girls that want to sing. I don't really like the music but I thought 'Hey, any experience would be good' so i said I'd do it on the condition that they would sing for the song we wrote. They had a look at the lyrics and some of them liked it and some of them didn't (sorry) but I should be able to get at least one of them to sing it.

anyway, talk to you later

Settle down settle down. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_mad.gif" border=0 alt="Mad"> Chordie does have tabs aswell. If you were actually looking close enough you would have seen that on screen where you select a song it says if it is a tab or a chord chart. What song were you looking for in paticular?

My computer has been down for only a week aned yet the last message I posted is at the bottom of the page! It looks like Chordie is gaining popularity, this is a very good thing because the more guitarists the better. Anyways I m working on a few more 'intstrumentals' (lol rogerguppy) and hope to have them posted soon.

Cheers, Alex W

So you dont have too press down on the frets at all? Maybe only gently?

Hehe, anyway yeah im looking for some one to sing it. The problem is Damo reckons words spoil any song so ill have to try to convince him. I wont be on chordie for a while because my computer is stuffing up (Im using one at school).

One more Question, when I printed of the lyrics they printed off unformmatted so the chords werent above the lyrics. How do I over come this problem?

Basically tab is like Awkward Strummer described, but I'll try to make it a bit easier to understand. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

Take for Example this tab

e---------

b---------

g---3-----

D---------

A---------

E--1------

All this means is that first on the big thickest string (E) you press your finger down on the first fret, then after plucking that note you then put your finger on the 3rd fret of the g string (if you have an acoustic the g string is the fourth thick string). The one disadvantage of tab is that it doesn't show rythym so you basically have to have heard the song before.

When you start getting into more complicated tabs there are extra symbols like:

E----3~~~

which means vibrato

E----4b---

which means bend

E---5h7---

which means hammer down

E---7p5---

which means pull off

Sometimes Chords are written in Tab like this

e---3----

b--------

g--------

D--------

A---2----

E---3----

This is a G chord

e--------

b--------

g---1----

D---2----

A---2----

E--------

This is an E chord

I hope this helps

Ouch, I think I have a cramp in my left hand but I just wanted to finish playing "Your Church". I thought if you came from Mississippi you would be a bluesy sort of guy  but nonetheless it was a beautiful song.

I went down to to the music shop and bought myself a slide knowing absolutley nothing about them. It's a lot harder than it looks. One problem is that I seem to have to push down very hard to get a clean sound from all the strings, this means that my fingers get sore quickly and reduces my playing time. Any tips on slide playing would be great.

I had an idea today at school: If I send you the song as a wav file in an attachment in an email you could put it on your recording software (I think you have audicity) and record you singing the words and we would have a completre song!

A good place is youtube or myspace or something like that, if you recorded it and made a video. it is fairly easy to put it on youtube if you have broadband. Im 13 aswell and I put my song on Youtube, but it doesnt have words, Maybe you could write some eh?

Yeah that seems ok but I dont think my parents will be too happy with the lyrics (im only 13) if you can tone it down a bit it would be good. The Chords are as follows:

The intro and verse chords Em G A C which are repeated to the chorus.

The chorus is G D Am Em repeated (you should be able to figure it out)

The lead part is pretty easy to figure out, its just on Em pentatonic scales.

The Chords through the solos are the same as the chorus

Oh yeh, the bridge chords are Bm, Em, D, C then the second time through its Bm, Em, D, G.

In the Chorus while playing the chords you can add the 3rd fret on the high E (which is a G) string in some spots.

And one last thing, the music wasn't just written by me, it was written by my friend Damo (He plays the chords on the Yamaha PACIFICA  while I play lead, he also is miming on the uke.) aswell, he wrote the chords for the intro and the verses and I wrote the bridge and chorus and the lead part. This a collabaration of all the Chord patterns that were in Em that we had written, the only completley new parts were the bridge and the little lead riff.

Thats about it, it was the best we could do with our equipment(i play a crappy monterey SG copy), do you know what the problem with my wah pedal is? It wasn't on distortion on the video yet it distorted, it also isnt very bitey, it doesnt go tinny enough (its kinda hard to explain) If you could help me it would be great.

There you have it, I hope you could understand my Australian writing. Oh and by the way what does germaine mean. (You used it in the "Weird Guitar" thread, you said that the thread 'Wasnt too Germaine (or something along those lines)

Thanks, Alex
