Ran across this Gregorian Chant version of Comfortably Numb. Interesting - and I really dig the violin solo.

Any other interesting covers out there?

Here's a really nice cover of comfortably numb Dar Williams included on a CD a few years back. I love it.

Howdy,

I been chillin for a couple weeks and I am going back to work for my 14 days on again tomorrow. Lizzie and I took a 3 day motorcycle ride to Sheridan then over the mountain to Powell Wyo from there to Billings Mt. Spent the night there then went to Red Lodge Mt and from there rode the Beartooth Highway on into Cody Wyo and spent the night. From Cody we cruised over to Ten Sleep and then up over the Mountain to Buffalo. We are blessed to be so close to some of the most beautiful country in the world.

I didn't have a guitar along so beings we were in Buffalo , I dropped in the antique store and visited a friend I met a few weeks back. She owns and operates the Antique store and always has a couple guitars on hand. She brought 2 chairs and I sat down with her and we started out with "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" all the while lots of customers milling around the store , some singing along others smiling and tappin their feet. We played " Don't think Twice", Mr. Bojangles, Pancho & Lefty, Ghost Riders, Tecumseh Valley. When she had to help a customer I just kept on playin and singin. She would join back in with no problem. She is a great rhythm player and it was just as fun as the last time I stopped.

CC the Gal that  owns the store, told me last time I was there about a Jam session they have every thursday at an old Historic Hotel "The Occidental" . Lizzie and I had checked it out a week before and it was really something. I had brought my guitar but we were a little late getting there and could barely get in the door. So we just sat back and enjoyed some great music by, Guitar, upright Bass , Harmonica , Fiddle , Banjo, mandolin and even an old piano. CC told me the "Discovery Channel" was filming the last Jam session and I will be looking for it .

One more thing I recently purchased the new Gillian Welch CD and it is worth the money, very good Harmonies and wonderful guitar playing by her partner David Rawlings. Just 2 folks with guitars and great voices..............

Here's Song from the new CD

Just a cool little jam that happened when Lizzie and I were traveling around the other day. We had been to Sheridan and on the way home stopped in Buffalo and stopped at an antique store. Lizzie was buying a few trinkets from the store owner and I helped myself to one of the two guitars she had on stands. I was just jammin and noodlin around, the guitar was in tune and sounded pretty good. The store owner said You're hired you can play here all day, I just kept on playin till Lizzie and her were done with the transaction. Then I was about to hang up the guitar and she said "Oh No We're gonna play a few" so she grabbed a guitar and she said play and I'll follow. So I played "Will The Circle be Unbroken" , I followed with "Don't Think Twice''  I then played "Mr Bojangles"  and she was right with me smile  She played "The Boxer"  and I followed her, she invited me to the weekly jam every thursday night, and that just like I had , They open every jam with "Will the Circle be Unbroken".
It was just a really nice afternoon and I love it when something like this just happens, when music brings folks together and the good times.

Lizzie was sharing what we had done for the day with my oldest daughter and she said "Who in the heck does something like that, Dad is so weird" . I guess I may be weird but I love jammin with others that love music smile

Heya Amy,

One thing that can really help remembering chords is, most songs follow a pattern for the verses and a pattern for the chorus. Folk songs don't have a Chorus so they are the same progression all day long.

I try to remember what key I play a song in and the progression such as 1, 4   1  4,  1 4 5. The One chord in the key of G is G and C is four and D is Five chord.

Or like the song we did "Speed of The Sound of Loneliness" is a 1 4 5  all day long G C D. Once you know the progression and key you will hear where your chord changes are and you will be 1/2 way home. Then just pound the lyrics till you get them. Try to get a couple songs down like this and keep adding one along the line and you will have a set list smile

Maybe it did happen and we are enjoying "The Ever After" smile

Well I just spent 3 weeks at work with the new Taylor GS Mini, and I am very impressed with it. I ended up picking up 2 more for co-workers after they played mine. I don't know how they get so much sound out of such a small guitar. You can drive it hard or strum it softly. Also fingerpicking you can get really agressivie with it and it sounds so good.

This is just the guitar I was looking for to take to work or travel with. Taylor hit one out of the park with this little gem !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,

I used a Audix ADX-51 small condensor mic that is picking up guitar and vocals and I run the mic into a Genz-Benz Compak 300 acoustic amp and the Genz Benz fills the room with sound so I just Set the Zoom Q-3 up about anywhere and it comes out pretty good acoustic wise.

I am from Gillette, I have been to the Bighorn Mountain Festival all but the first year. I am hoping to make it this year and I also like to attend the Nowoodstock Festival in Ten Sleep. I am hoping to catch some others in Wyoming and Colorado. I will be working 14 on and 14 off schedule so I hope I hit the right days off.

Hello,

I have been having a heck of a time with my Presonus Interface since I purchased a new PC , so I am back to using my Zoom Q-3.
Today I sat down and recorded Autumn Leaves with an acoustic guitar and did it in one take. My dog was in and out of the dog door a couple of times during the recording , but what the heck.

Here Goes,

Well,

Today is a day I am gonna spend with my guitar and work on a couple songs and do some recording. I will be alone all day and it is a perfect day. We are having rain and snow today so this day will be perfect.

I was hoping to do some recording with a new guitar but it didn't work out. I have a lot of little people that come to our house to visit so I ordered a Taylor GS Mini to have for the little ones to learn on and for myself to tinker with. The Big Brown truck come yesterday and the guitar box seemed kinda small. Turned out it was Baby Taylor and a lefthanded one at that. The right handed GS Mini will be here on Monday so no sweat.

I will give a review on it after playing it for a few days. Well I am off to the Music Room ..............

Thanks Everyone,

The service went very well and it was more of a celebration of life. My brother in law did a Eulogy for his father and it was nice. I followed with "In the Garden" I did a fingerpicking version and I thought it turned out really nice. My wife asked me to do it so I tried my best for her. I didn't have alot of notice but I practiced it over and over and I made it through without a bobble.

This was the first funeral I have played and even though I wasn't nervous it is hard not to have a lump in your throat when you have been sitting with folks that are crying. The funeral director asked me to say a few words before I played so I walked up front sat down with my amp and mic in front of the Catholic Church plugged in my guitar and told the crowd I was gonna do a quick tune up cause I needed all the help I could get from my J-45. I then assured my sister in law that my song choice would have no mention of "Trains, Mama, Prison or Gettin Drunk" she still thinks I'm a bad boy and may not do the right thing at times and probably rightfully so. I dedicated it to Lizzies , Father and it was one of his favorites.
  :
The song went well and even my Mother liked it and she hates my music. She overheard a couple ladies behind her say  that was a most beautiful version of the song. Lots of kids and friends there so it was a very good day.

Tops, I Like "Peace, Family & Guitars"

Thanks.

Well I haven't been postin much lately and have been very busy with work. I still play every day and miss having time to participate on Chordie and am gonna make an effort to make the time.

I have played at several weddings and I like to entertain when I can but have never been asked to play at a funeral. My wife's father passed away and she asked if I would play a song at the service Monday , I couldn't say no and I hope it goes well.

Anyway sometimes we have to "Stop and Smell the Roses" . I need to for sure.......................

Thanks to all my Chordie Friends for the great place to visit , reflect and be a part of the Best Site on the Net.....
