After 12 years of regular playing out, hundreds of hours of tweaking, and thousands of dollars in effects pedals, I am pleased to announce that I have finally found my sound.
Thank GOD for that!

SUUUCKS - I was under deadline. Worked from 8 am until just now!!!!!!!!
My name is baldguitardude. I think you just accepted it.
I'm in!
I did ear training in college so I can't comment on home study courses, but the Perfect Pitch course has been advertised for years. Based upon samples it seems like a good product. If you have an iphone you might also try this. the beginner course is free: http://www.karajan-eartrainer.com/en/
They are a bit slick if your hands get sweaty. Other than that I love 'em.
I've used those. They sound awesome.
I use 1 mil tortex or 1+ mil nylon. I find the grip awesome and the sound (particularly from the nylon) is quite warm.
I listen to some zydeco. Never played it.
I'm not on the Black Keys bandwagon. At. All.
Zurf we have lots of overlap. I have lots of Maynard, Dizzy, Dr. John, Cross Canadian Ragweed, OCMS!
Thanks for the suggestions all!
Brother Yusef. Holy Crap.
I'm kind of blah on my iTunes playlist at the moment. I have lots of good folk, funk, acoustic, jazz, blues, rock, rockabilly, country, bluegrass, metal, ska, reggae, classical, operatic, and even some Broadway, top 40 and rap. Just looking for something new. Maybe in one of those genres, maybe in another.
Any suggestions?
are you thinking any particular feel or tempo?
Detman101's post about his NGD made me realize that I have never named a single guitar that I've owned. Not a one.
Do most of you guys (and gals) name your instruments?
Give us a time marker for what you are referring to as the "speedy part." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzaGLBHS0b4
You can really get crazy when you blow that dominant chord out to an altered chord...
C E G Bb Db
Now you have E/G/Bb/Db dim7 over C. Head exploooooodes.
Other fun trivia - dominant seventh chords contain a diminished triad:
C7 = C E G Bb
E dim = E G Bb
You can use diminished chords as a substitute for the dominant chords with a root a major third below the diminished chord's root. Yowza.
I have a late 60's Guild Madeira that was a gift for xmas when I was 5. I still play it every day.
Yet again I'm with Jerome. The bill is crap. The intent may be good but execution is terrible. The lack of presumption of innocence or due process is very alarming.
I'm an online marketer by trade...my whole industry is having a fit about it right now. Horrible bill.
I'm with Jerome. Too much potential variance between "identical" instruments.

Whatever you buy, buy used. Lets someone else eat the depreciation.
<= Amazed that this discussion is still civil. Well done, Chordie folk.
Using wordpress is about the cheapest you can get...a few bucks for the domain, a few bucks for hosting and you're done. The sites are not glamorous but they work, SEO well and you can edit them yourself without paying a geek $55 an hour. Here are some examples I've made in the last month or two (I don't want to link spam so just type these in your browser)
free jazz lessons dot com
sin city k9 dot net
bald guitar dude dot com
DS I would be delighted to help you get something set up and install wordpress for you. For free.
i like to noodle with songs and do my own thing with them, so once I have the melody half way there (by singing along with the recording) I learn the chords and start to experiment with the feel.
