Hi lupin_z

I usually use my pinky for the C note. There are other ways but it's works for me.
It depends how you finger the DChord.

Hope this helps.

Hi
I read Will's Posts with amusement from day one. Though I only replied once to many quirky posts.
His first post  in June was
"I live in a lovely village in Cambridgeshire, and there's a whole bunch of places we can practice. I do warn you most of them are haunted. I'm getting better every day, I'm 13 going on 14, and I break up from school mid- July."
and the poor boy was jump on from the start for using a line from Paul Simons song in his signature can't remember which one. quite reasonable I thought.
This was his first reply.
""are you gay cause what the hell is with the paul simon crap"
Not a good introduction to Chordie I felt especially for a young teenager. I think this may have put him on defensive from the start.
He did make bold daft statements (what teenager doesn't )which caused some offence to a few Chorians but when he was confronted  he usually apologised.
Most of his heated discussions were with our more antagonistic brethren who enjoy nothing more than the the back forth banter of lively debate.
I guess in the end his exit was the child in him slamming the door in a huff. Most parents of teenagers have had that one.

Hi docphil
Seen and read most of you posts they are challenging to read and enrich the forum.
I think for most of us who have been around for a while on Chordie look forward to your many and varied questions on diverse musical topics.
Keep them coming.

Hi pefenheitenaught
Welcome to Chordie.

I can't say I'm a night owl or claim to be an early riser just an Mr average where sleep patterns are concerned abit boring really.:)
Also

I looked at post
Things We Hate...Or at least Dislike VERY MUCH!! and oh dear! your've pitched me right in it there.
Seem some of our Chordians (expression coined docphil) are getting some what heated under collar again and very interesting it is to.
I guess what I mean't by the statement The Dislike of Extreme views or behaviour religious or political of anykind was  that mostly their outcome leads to violence in the world and this is what I Hate.

Most if not all Wars in history have been started by People Holding extremes views Political or religious and millions of lives lost to their aims.

Don't get me wrong I did'nt mind being quoted. Just thought I should clarify my statement.

Hi James
You certainly bought back memories with this one of when my daughter went off to University.
Missing her being around
3 years of moving her stuff from home to University and back again.
Being so proud when she graduated.
Nice one again.

Hi jasonhague321
Thanks for the positive comment.
I wrote  the song a few years back so I'm not sure how long it took me.
Though I usually find the chords and melody  come to me  fairly quickly.
But struggle with lyrics for weeks!

Hi James
A nice one to strum and have good old sing.
Oil and water don't mix and there's something to be said about the "Quieter life".
Though I'm sure others would disagree.:)

Hi
Helena (Kissing the old Blarney stone again) smile
Thanks for the nice comment
The picture did invoke childhood memories for me too.The place it was taken was where I spent many a happy day by the sea.
I sometimes think it's strange how places have changed, yet some like the countryside and the sea have remained the same.
Seeing how lively you are I would describe you more as multi coloured.

James
The book sounds very interesting. I will try to get hold of a copy.
I'm glad the song invoked the sea for you as was my intention. The chord progression is slightly strange but felt it fitted the image I was trying to paint.
Thanks for the comment and coming up with something interesting again.

daddy
As you so rightly say good memories are source of happiness for us all.
Cheers for the positive comment.

Hi
The idea for this song came from a old picture in a local history book of the seaside dated 1914.
The year of the out break of the 1st world war.

Am9.……....X05500   Not  as shown on the grid.

Arpeggio style

Thanks James for your advice useful as usual.

The PictureUndefined

1.

[Am9] The gentle lapping of the water.

[Fmaj7/A] Brings a stillness to the air.

[G6] and the smell of the estuary.

[Asus2] Comes in with the tidefair.

[Am9]The sun beats down on the shore line.

[Fmaj7/A] The children were happy to play.

[G6] and the calmness of the water.

[Asus2] was reflected back into the day.

Chorus.

[Am] In the long hot summer of 19[Em]14 the [G] time just drifted [Am] away.

[Am] and in the tranquillity of that [Em] heatwave [G] was shattered in just one [Asus2] day

2

[Am9] The couples walked hand in hand.

[Fmaj7/A] Lost in each other romantic dreams.

[G6] and the parents of the children.

[Asus2] Were happy in their own schemes.

[Am9] There’s a little girl playing in the water.

[Fmaj7/A] With her hand trailing in the brine.

[G6] She watches the other children

[Asus2] As if waiting for sign.

Chorus………..

3

[Am9] The stillness of an sepia picture.

[Fmaj7/A] Shines down through the years.

[G6] Of a day in a long lost summer.

[Asus2] Before wartime fears.

Chorus…..

Hi James
I have a song nearly ready to post.
The problem is the chords shown with the song are not the ones I use. In particular the Am9  I use is variation of the one that comes up.
Is there any way to specify a variation.

I think Chodians will find a longwinded explaination of how the song is played off putting.
Sorry to be a pain
Thanks

The night was drawing in and cold air filled the sky
I could see forever sparkling deep within her eyes
Nothing could be clearer as we gazed into the stars
That nothing comes between two people sharing hearts

Touch of your soft hand brushed away your lies
The touch of your lips eased my breaking heart
The smell of your skin made me think of the time
First time holding you to be mine all mine

As the flash of a shooting start lit up the night
Something started stirring beyond the eerie light
We felt it both deep inside the marrow of our bones
While the wind whistled through the trees in melancholy tones

Chorus or Bridge . . .
Dance in the darkness dance still for me . . .
Just enfold me in the ecstasy
Hold me till the night light dims
Into nothingness and all that is.

The cold night said goodbye warm daylight filled the sky
Forever was still sparkling within her sleepy eyes
This is a new day a bright new shining way
And you are the reason  that I will forever stay
