^^^^^^^ Best explanation I've ever read. Tops all of them. Thanks, TF! This needs to go into Songwriter Magazine. If such a thing exists in your area.^^^^^^^^^^

Congratulations, my friend!

IMO, a hook makes a hit, but then you have to make sure to go back over the rest of the text and make sure that everything you wrote leads up to that hook and makes it vaild. Running parallell is the music itself.

Here's some inspirational music for my pal Mo'

Borderline band? or maybe No borders band

I like "No Borders Band" better Dino.

Borderline Band makes me think of a bunch of guys who may be borderline..... you know....... schizos?

So I vote with you for "No Borders Band" (and maybe even drop the name "Band").

Good one, Dino. smile

I have 2 opinions about the name y'all chose, Grah

Radio Announcer: "Playing tonight (this weekend): Definitely Not!" - so no one shows up

That was opinion number one

Radio Announcer: "Playing tonight (this weekend): The cleverly titled band, Definitely Not - a lot of people show up because of the clever name.

And that was number two.

As to "Graham and The Crackers": I would not have chosen it either, my friend, simply because it evokes comedy and a party band, which y'all are ....... ahem....... Definitely Not. smile smile smile

Forgive an old comic for trying? wink

Don't suppose you'd accept "Graham and The Crackers", would you, Grah?

Comments left on YT, UJB, but I absolutely loved the two songs. Your friend ain't no slouch on that blue git-tar either. Compliments to both of you, and that's an attractive lady in the picture! smile

Yeah, Amy, I agree: We're either gonna have to go to Mr. Harding's website (been there) or get him to come back here and explain that 2nd position a little more explicitly.

I would also like to point out that no place in this thread did I make reference to the Kama Sutra in discussing the above ummm..... position.

In that price range though, you'll be looking at the X series with a new Martin (all made in Mexico - High pressure laminate).  If you can find a Taylor with a solid top around that price, I think you'd be better off........

Amy, I bought a Strat (still have it), which I thought was at a great price, but after looking very closely at the serial number, I saw that it was made in Mexico and even though it plays well, I wouldn't dare try to sell it for what I paid for it: $399.00 USD.

Please check the "ETA" above. I also meant to add one more thing: My whole idea about laying down the guitar track and then singing on top of that was to make you a bit more relaxed, but I see your point as well, Zurf. You do what you think feels right and it will be right - always.

Bill

ETA: And about that PA, I do hope Ms. Santa brings it for ya, and I have wanted one for a long time - since I furnished the music room with the guitars, drums, amps and keyboard, but you know, they're just toys for me to play with - since I don't know anyone who isn't really familiar with what dementia is and what it isn't.

If I had you and the others closer to me, I'd bring y'all in at gunpoint if I had to! LOL!!!!!! smile

I'd visit a reputable music shop, get in their little "Try-It-Out Studio" and have at it. That's the true way of telling the worth of either one. Of course, if the price were right, I'd take either one! smile

Bill

ETA: Oh yeah, I don't know if they still make them or not, but stay away from the accoustic/electrics which make you loosen the strings to get at the battery. I didn't have arthritic hands when I bought my Jasmine, but now I do and guess what?

Right. I can't get my hand into the soundhole to change the battery. My grandson does that for me, and I have to play straight accoustic until he gets to come and visit us.

I agree with Amy, Zurf, you are releasing that voice a little more, but in parts I do hear a little timidness, if you don't mind my saying so, my friend.

I was just thinking, and I don't know if you'd be willing to do this, but could you lay down the guitar track and then the voice on this one? I just thought it might show the strength of the voice a bit more, Zurf.

By the way, we still have the "Songs For Dondra" saved on Dopbox. smile

ETA: I meant to add that the melody is beautiful, Z. I don't care if the hound-dogs come baying at your door; please don't abandon songs like I do. It is totally worth your time and work.

I have tried numerous times to send a mail to our Amy, but they aren't getting to her. One from yesterday is an example. If anyone needs headers or whatever, I think I can provide those. There have also been other instances. Any opinions?

Thanks

I read your blog, my favorite line is "Still whining, aren't I? So what? It's my blog........ and I'll whine if I want to. LOL"
You're a great writer, Bill.  Your personality really comes through your words.  We love ya, keep playing... even if it's just for yourself (and Dondra).  Music therapy is the best therapy.

Thanks for reading the blog, Amy, and thank you for the kind words.

If any of you would like to leave a comment or two on the blog, I'd be happy to receive them. They can be left by clicking the little white envelope at the bottom of the installment.

Thanks again, Amy

TF, thank you.

I just read that whole thing again, and I had made it sound like an old oak tree beat me up. Thanks for knowing it was a group of schoolmates who did that. As an English major I'm more than a bit perturbed by that mistake and give myself an "F" on that post!

Well, I had to look it up, Russell smile : http://music.stackexchange.com/question … -resolved.

But thanks for giving me the opportunity to do that and study it being used by you and others, so that I can have something snazzy to offer up at the recitals I like to attend at the local college.

I'm serious, my friend. I had only a slight idea what the word meant and you're going to keel over in laughter when I tell you what I thought!

"I also like to use minor to major as in Em7 D C G (second position) and resolve to D"

Bill: Hmmm wonder what Russell means by that?

Bill's Brain: You moron! It means he plays those four chords in the Lotus position and then the whole rest of the song is in D!!"

So you see? Bill doesn't have much of a brain left, my friend. Maybe you can explain to me what the second position really is?

Thanks,

Bill

I have never taken a count, but when y'all post the lyrics and chords, I notice that many of you choose to play in the minor keys.

Is there a particular reason for that (easier to sing, etc.?) or is just that the subject matter may be sad or at least introspective?

Thanks and I love your music, whether in the minor or the major keys.
