Re: what do yall think of guitar hero?? (8 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
It's crap. Just like american idol. It gives the player a false sense of accomplishment that can be attained only from hands on the steel and wood, not some plastic toy. There is no substitute for becoming a real musician. Practice, practice, and more practice is the only way. There are no short cuts. My 12 year old daughter plays guitar hero and real bass guitar. She tells me that guitar hero is so much easier than the guitar playing Dad teaches her. Don't even get me started on American idol......

Re: gibson les paul (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
For christmas I've asked my parents for a white gibson les paul and I was wondering if anyone out there had one and how thay sound. And if any one knows where to find one that is less than $225. Guitars are expensive.
Someone(Rockerchick) a few days ago was looking for a White Les Paul for<$250.00. That just ain't gonna happen but here's something to look at;

It means this;
Capo the 3rd fret, all strings. By doing this when you play a C shaped chord, the capo placed 3 positions(frets) becomes Eb or E flat.

Mine is diversity and no limits(almost) on genres.
I'll go from AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" to Avril Lavinges' "Complicated" to Childrens TV Themes, "Sesame Street, Scooby Doo, Sponge Bob" to Led Zeppelins'"Your Time is Gonna Come". Get the picture?
Don't allow an audience tobe able to catagorize you as a performer. That's my aim.

LR,
With your like of the southern rock and the sorts I think you'd like Government Mule. Warren Haynes is their lead vocal/guitarist. He also plays currently with the new Allman Brothers, who are also fantastic !! Give it a shot, you might dig it, you might bury it.

Re: Taylor defect ??? (3 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Keep on them until you're 100% satisfied. If you do not get a satisfactory response from whom you are dealing with, go above them, and above them,etc. Taylor stands by their product 100% and if you, the buyer, are not happy Taylor is not happy. Stay persistant and this problem will be corrected to your satisfaction.

Re: background music for guitar player's (4 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
I am sorry to bother but I am first time over here and I need an answer if anybody can give me. I am guitar player and would like to play like one man band, if you know what I mean. I need a background music without voice etc. so I can play guitar and sing with complete virtual band behind me. I do have a 12 string Ovation and 6 string Fender electric guitar, and I have a laptop too. Please advise me what to buy yet inexpensive. I had an offer from the bar here in Mediteranean (Croatia) and the money is good so I'd like to try. Thank you : )
Sequencers are lame man. They take the human touch and soul out of the music. Personally I prefer on the fly looping. I use the Boss RC 20. It took me a few gigs to get comfortable with it but now I couldn't imagine playing without it. The cool thing about looping is that you assemble the tune right before the audiences eyes. My opinion on sequencers is just that, my opinion but I beg of you don't use one !!!! I think you'll find that respect of your peers and audiences will be greater with "live looping" than pre-recorded sequencing. Good luck with your gigs.

It's just about getting together with family and friends and enjoying some great food and watching football. In life we get so consumed with our jobs and the trials and ruts of adulthood. Religious? for me no, for some yes. It's just a day on the calendar that me and my family try to take a time out from the everyday routine and spend some good quality time with each other. That's why and how we do it.

Re: what should i get?? (12 replies, posted in Electric)
Why does everyone think that Fender and Gibson are the only decent guitar companies out there!?
The only reason that I can think of is that the media and advertising has brainwashed people.
First, let me say that I think Fender and Gibson do make several great guitars, but I do not think that they should be the only brands that one considers when looking for a decent electric guitar. Personal preference is everything! I would never consider buying a Gibson because they are over-priced. A les paul standard costs $2,000 bucks!! This is madness!!
Everyone?
How about a recommendation instead of condemnation of everyones views.
Sincerly,
A VERY Satisfied Les Paul & J-45 Parent

Re: 1/2 an hour. What's so magic about 1/2 an hour? (15 replies, posted in Acoustic)
It's true. Maybe I've been suckered; I was practicing 45 minutes per day or so, and then started bumping into other stuff that seemed important, so I keep adding onto my practice time. 15 minutes or so on right hand drills, 15 minutes on fretboard memorization, left-hand warmup, 30 minutes on scales, 30 minutes on strumming patterns/chord changes/barre chords, 30 minutes on repertoire... I'm up to a solid 2 hours a night, with no end in sight. I need to work on fingerpicking, really hit the barre chords so that my thumb quits cramping up, add some style practice.
It's coming down to organization, and what needs to be worked on daily, and what can safely be done less often. My problem seems to be that I regard it all as in the 'every day' category. I don't begrudge the time spent (I'm having a blast), but it's about to consume my life!
How do you choose?
I can think of many things that could be worse in consuming ones' life. Go with it, let it consume you. I had the same illness 25 years ago you're having now and today, I'm a full-time professional working musican. Follow your heart, put your family first (because they will always be your biggest fans) and stay dedicated and focused.
Peace and Guitars,

Re: Thanksgiving! (27 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Me, me, me, me, me, me!!!!!!! I'll do it! I'll do it!
Thanks Old Doll. My Mom and her Hubby are visiting us down here in sunny Florida from the mountains of Virginia. The last time they came down here(last year for thanksgiving) we were preparing an 18lb bird to slowly cook in our old outdoor smoking grill. We had this bird stuffed, marinated, glistening like an angelic cullinary trophy . Well then the unthinkable happened. Just as my lovely Mom and I eased the bird into the smoker, SPLATAAAANGGGERATTTTERRRGGGHHH. The smoker collapsed, the bottom fell out of the damn thing and legs holding the grill were each pointing in different directions. We quickly picked the bird up from the deck and rushed it into the kitchen, gave it a good rinsing, and popped it into the oven. Not as good as smoking it but it turned out pretty dang good. I'll never forget the look on my sweet Mom's face when that turkey hit the ground!
I'll keep the sauce in the freezer for you. You gotta come get it though and you must have yer guitar in tote with you.
Ciao Bella,
SouthPaw41L
