I have taught courses in some extremely dry material (U.S. Federal Acquisition*** Regulation requirements for contractors wishing to subcontract part of their work - it makes me yawn just typing it).  When confronted with new material, no matter how it's laid out and no matter how little experience they have with the topic, people will ALWAYS want to address it from their experience.  It doesn't surprise me in the least that she immediately went to her personal experience to try to resolve the question.  And there's just no way to get to the destination with that as a starting point.

I play heavies on my acoustic, 11's or 12's on the electric but I also drop 1/2 step to get those big bends....used to break too many strings in standard tuning. I've played 13's but only on my jazz axe where i'm not bending so much.

Agree with Zurf. Or strengthen your index finger so you can play the A as a mini barre chord.

Also you might think you need the E but you really don't...if the changes are that fast, ditch the high e string on this chord change...

I'd say this is a great opportunity to practice open position chords without using your index finger...build up the independence of the ring finger and pinky. smile

@Jerome have you done a whole pig before? I can provide tips if you need it. I've done it a few times.

Came up with what I thought would be a cool arrangement for Beast Of Burden. However I did so on a plane without having my guitar in front of me. I've now spent the last 3 hours trying to teach myself a friggin' picking pattern that is too difficult for my level of ability. Boxed myself completely in a damned corner. Angry. Angry. Angry. And too stubborn to change it, of course.

end rant.

I use it for work....internet marketing, a teenie bit of design, and recording. I agree that they're overpriced but I'm hooked. PCs piss me off.

I'm now in the same boat as DJ. Love it.

Tangent: Sometimes the transcribers try to transcribe what is really meant to be noise or texture. If something doesn't look like a chord, it probably isn't. The original player was probably sounding ghost notes or making noise. Don't worry about hitting those notes exactly. An example in SLTS would be the

chord. Although it's a G major, Cobain didn't really use it as a G major. He just hit open strings cuz they sound cool. Marty does a really good job of demonstrating that. Just lift up your hands and hit some notes. smile

Derek Trucks is also a master of this technique.  Check out .08, .13, .35 and repeatedly after .46: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et_4zxne_OE

Computer went down last week - 4th time in as many months. Apple said "we've replaced these parts several times. We're just going to give you a new computer. That ok?"

Hell yes it's ok! I paid $2800 retail for this mofo and I just got a brand new one for free. Woo ha!!!!!
