HeyHo Steve - Someplace in the forum a while back there was a thread regarding copyright laws.  Can't find it right now, but my understanding is that you 'own' a song as soon as it is created.  At least, that is the American law - I'm sure that Canadian law is quite similar.


There is something called a 'poor man's patent' (or close to that) which is basically is when you put the song down on paper, put it in an envelope, and post it to yourself.  You then keep the unopened letter with the postmarked date for future reference.  Obviously, it would be good to note somewhere on the envelope exactly which song or songs are inside . . .


Sorry I can't find the thread right now, but it eludes me at present.

Hello bigrinwv - perhaps your songbook is a maximum capacity?  I believe the limit is 100 songs per book.  You can create a new book, and then add to that. Look around on the My Songbook page for the button to create a new book.  Hope this helps.

Glad you like the new lyric, Altex - coming up with words gets a little easier the more you try.  Just saw your previous post about recording the lyric.  Yes, I have Audacity (because it's free), but I do not yet have a microphone - so it doesn't do me much good.


Anyway, I sort of wrote the 'So Vulnerable' lyric with you (or somebody about your age) in mind.  I'm way too geezerly and oblivious to be vulnerable!


At your school there has got to be somebody who wants to sing (they might even be female!).  Ask around beyond your immediate friends and I bet you can find discover an aspiring vocalist who would relish the opportunity to record an original song.


Don't know how soon I'll be able to afford the microphone I want . . . it's not that it's that expensive, it's just that there are several other household priorities that must take precedence to Daddy's hobby.

Uperyerkilt and cheetarah are right on the money here.  I know for a fact that upyerkilt is married - he therefore possesses vast wisdom and hard-won experience regarding the inner workings of the female species.


As you create this song of love, keep in mind that male and female and human beings are in fact two totally different species.  It is a marvelous cosmic joke that there is any attraction between these extremely different critters.


The male species is motivated simply by hormones and convenience.  The female species is driven by factors that are as yet not fully identified.  Recent advances in quantum physics, probability theory, and the development of light-weight-space-age materials that can be readily adapted to producing cute shoes offer some promise for unlocking the mysteries of female motivation.


However; some scientists are warning that the male species is probably incapable of using such knowledge safely and wisely.


Please realize that if you compose an effective love song, you might get exactly what you're asking for . . . .

Altex - I'm working on the new/improved lyric (I'm guessing the original 'Hot Monkey Love' version will only be available on your highly-prized underground bootleg demo).


My approach for this next version is at the opposite end of the spectrum - rather than hormone-crazed, I'm going for something without any hot monkeys . . .

Thanks for the chords Altex - I shall get it all figured out in a day or two and post along with 'toned down/cleaned up' lyric.  Will also make sure all the writing credits are correct.


You're exactly right - I hadn't considered your age and how your parents might feel about the song's subject (rather stupid of me since I have a young son myself).  Perhaps 'hot monkey love' is an altogether wrong topic for this effort - - - I'll come up with something better.


Germane (I spelled it wrong in the other post) simply means 'relevant or on-topic'.

All joking aside - donating a guitar to a group (any group) of people is like signing a death warrant on the instrument.  It will only be slammed about and be in sad tatters soon.


People who don't play have little or no appreciation for the fact that instruments don't heal . . . I cringe anytime I see a non-musician grab any instument - it's like watching a curious child mangle a butterfly.


Better for you to find a deserving individual who is wanting a guitar - somebody who would truly appreciate the opportunity to play and enjoy the instrument.  Ask around - somebody will know someone who will feel that your old guitar is like manna from heaven (to continue the biblical theme).


It's a great opportunity to spread some joy - don't waste it by giving the guitar to a 'group' - give it to an aspiring player.

Greetings D.L.C. and welcome to chordie!  I am not an expert on computer stuff either, but try this.  Download (for free!) some recording & editing software called 'Audacity'.  Just do  a google search on the name.


I recently downloaded Audacity, but haven't had a chance to use it yet because I need to get a microphone . . . Once I get that piece of the puzzle, I too will share some of my creations - like you, I have alot of tech stuff to learn - such as exactly how to post the recordings to somewhere.

Hey Altex . . . love the tune & the riff, love the video!  I've got the tune in my head now and may take a stab at coming up with few apt words (with your permission, of course).


On another recent songwriting thread there was an exchange regarding the meaning of the phrase 'hot monkey love'.  I think it would be a fun challenge for me to craft a 'hot monkey love' lyric set to your dandy tune - would that be OK?

Please let me know . . .


Also, I gotta say that I was a bit worried that the acoustic guitar on the floor would end up as kindling as y'all were leaping around . . . looks like a veteran instrument and that would be a sorry end for such a relic.

Glad you like the song, Ken!  How many songs have I written lately?  Don't really know . . . I'm just pushing myself to finish some of the ideas that have been knocking around in my notebook for a while.


I got a few more that I'm chipping away at - and who knows which ones I'll finish next . . . still jotting down plenty more new ideas also.


I have been summoned to serve on jury duty this week.  As part of a large pool of potential jurors for specific cases, I have been sitting patiently through the various steps of the process. 


Wish that I could work on songs while sitting there - I tried it, but we are all seated cheek to jowl and it feels nasty to have people reading my scribbles as I write lyrics and tap out rhythms.  Have not yet been seated on a jury to hear a particular case yet . . . maybe tomorrow.


Being summonsed to serve jury duty is a major inconvienience - but should I ever stand accused of a criminal offense (or be the victim of crime), I would want somebody as smart and sharp as myself on the jury!

Shytini - I liked your latest recording (A Vagabond and a Holy Cross).  The recording was crystal clear (what did you use?).  I want to know more about the guy.  Maybe wondering about the back story is part of the allure of the song - but I am left suspended with not enough hints as to why and how.

hello bazzer ireland and welcome to chordie!  Perhaps your difficulty in finding the "Turn the Page" is simply a misspelling the artist's name.  It is Bob Seger (with no i).


There are several ways to find specific songs on chordie:

- Search by artists generally uses the last name of the artist.  This is the default search mode.  Click on the first letter of the artist's last name or band name on chordie's front page and then scroll through the listings.

- Search by song title is another way - often times this method will turn up listings for other artists or bands that have covered (or originated) a song.

- Another approach is to do a text search - simply entering the song's title, a line, or a phrase in the text search line will usually offer a wide variety of possible matches.

- Another method is to go to the 'Public books' tab and then search within the songbooks assembled by other chordie users.  This method may result in finding a version of the song that somebody has lovingly edited to suit their tastes.


Seeger's "Turn the Page" is a popular listing since it is often included in the 'top 10' and the 'top 100' lists that appear on chordie's front page.  I have not looked, but I'm willing to bet that there are multiple versions of this song (probably with both tabs and chords) available in chordies massive index.


Once you have played around with chordie's buttons a bit, you will find that it is very easy to use and that there are many unique features offered by this site.  Since I first stumbled on this site, I have found it to be an excellent source not only for songs but also for information on the many forum topics.


Hope this helps . . . I saw Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band perform in a bar many many years ago - it was a marvelous performance!
