After I had my fall last year I slowed down quite a bit. Then this year I've only played twice. I've got a couple of shows coming up over the summer, after that who knows?
I might get the taste back later in the year, I might not!

The last gig I did was in a hotel, the average age must have been 80. But I've always found the old crumblies have more go in them than today's kids. My kids are in their 30s to 45's and they tell me they and their friends love 60's and 70's songs....go figure? But strictly C/W and ballads for the crumblies

the threads of this song came to me while sitting outside shop after shop waiting for she who must be obeyed to finish looking at dress after dress.

please have a listen and comment

the one thing that stands out for me is the reverb used on the vocals which George Martin used much more sparingly and of course how the performances were polished up. the actual sound is crystal clear though. i must ask the question; would they have been so big if they had gone with Decca? i don't think so.

Short answer....yes

By chord shape I meant the shape your fingers go into to get the diminished chord. You say the chord I've mentioned is F#dim as F# is the root, well any of the notes in the chord can be the root depending on the key. eg...if you want to add a Cdim when playing in the key of C this shape is the one you'd use. Or A or D# in their respective keys. As a guitarist it seems simple and straightforward to me.

Hi Dale, welcome to Chordie?

I'm no great guitar technician but I found your question very interesting. I had a quick check on the resources page to find the chord chart which shows the A diminished shape; (from the 6th string,)  F#, C, A, D#. This is the standard diminished chord shape and can be transposed all the way up the fret board to achieve whichever diminished chord you are looking for. This shape can also be used for F#dim, Cdim, or D#dim.
I've been playing for over 50 years and this rule has been a mainstay for me when writing or reading copy.

Hope this helps?

"Lennon/McCartney".

Bill, sometimes it's not so much a talent as a curse. scrabbling around looking for a pen and some paper cos you've heard or thought up a line that sounds like it could be a great hook. every time you pick-up a guitar you're searching for "new" chord sequences. and worse is yet to come....writing a whole song down, having to leave it for whatever reason and when you get back to it the whole thing has gone but for the words that don't fit any other rhythm or tune.  shoot me now!

great idea. i've been pushing the "chordie" button then whichever forum i'm looking at. it takes a little longer than a "back to top" and not as convenient.

I had Carol Kings Tapestry on vinyl. I left it with my ex so 10 years on I bought it on cassette....what a let down! I still love all the tracks, but it was missing something. I watched her last year in Hyde park, Tapestry live, loved it, loved it, loved it! Maybe I'll get it on CD?

Never disappointed with Beatles....

thanks Peatle. yes we nice guys also get pooped on from a great height by user women. i must add at this point that not all women are included in that statement, my Ann for one, though her predecessor might well qualify. i enjoyed the writing and recording of this song. thanks again.

Jandle. i was and still am suffering with a throat and chest problem and i think my voice is quite hoarse on the recording having had to stop while i coughed uncontrollably. glad you liked it. thanks for the listen

Thanks Jim, I'm a little surprised that no one has picked up on the Monopoly reference.

I think both of our songs have more or less the same theme; a whimpy guy chasing a manipulating woman?

I'm hoping to give your song a try tonight if time allows.

Phill

Yes!

I call slow, draggie songs suicide fodder. One or two slow tracks on a CD or live show is ok but not for the whole thing! Which is why the Snow Patrol CD I bought a few years back has only been played once...no hum

That's not a problem Jeff, I was wondering what was lurking beneath the Bm...lol. For some reason I still can't get Chopro to format correctly, so thanks for that.
Also, big thanks for the critique.

the actual "full" title is "some girls are hard to impress" but i've cut the title down not to confuse things with Jim's song of the same name.

find it here on soundcloud..

It's a two-person piece of playground equipment ... you may have a different name for it in the UK

In the UK we call it a see saw, as in I saw Esore sitting on a see saw...

pride is a sin....but i don't feel the least bit sinful for feeling the pride and happiness i'm experiencing thanks to you and Dondra and of course Julian.

Many congratulations on Julian and Sara's engagement. it seems your happiness and joy is boundless after the rotten times you've had of late. soak it up my friend and lets hope the joy continues for you and yours.

i don't have a clue what a "Teeter-totter" is?

love from Phill and Ann xxx

Hi Julian, I sent your granddad an email wishing you the very best for your future academically and musically. come and join us here on Chordie when you find some time.

All the best from Phill&Ann from Wales.

hi Jim.  yeah, i had the same idea, that title really works and i thought i'd like to immortalise it in song too! i haven't quite finished it yet, and i might not having read yours, which is great as usual. you got the tag line worked nicely in, which i'm failing at, at the moment. knowing you there's a recording coming soon?

in my primary school days back in the 50's we used to sing most days, especially at going home time. as it was a Welsh school we'd sing in Welsh. also at secondary school we had music classes as part of the curriculum, mainly singing (again in Welsh) and learning music notation, which i paid little attention to. when i got to 15 a classmate brought his guitar in to school and i noticed the attention he got form the opposite sex, so when he put his guitar up for sale i bought it. it lasted about a week before i over tightened the strings and broke it. i used to dream of being a singer but was kicked off the school choir for singing out of tune! no-one complains that much anymore, and subsequent better guitars that i learned to tune properly, helped me to sing in tune....most of the time.

lovely song Jim. most people would like to be able to say those things which makes it a very personal song for whoever sings it, unfortunately it wont be me as i seem to have developed some kind of throat and chest infection. hope someone can do it credit.

on "the old grey whistle test"...a rock show in the UK during the 70's.
the bassist was John Illsley who was there from start to finish. they later changed drummer to a guy called Terry Williams (no relative) who happened to come from Swansea which is about 9 miles from here. I saw him many times playing in local bands before joining the Straits.
