Links to lyrics are chords are ok to put in the forum but actual lyrics and chords are not. I had to delete the content Ipmalapad had here due to potential legal issues.(i.e., copywrights)

by Per (site owner)
Chordie does not host songs. It is a search engine that formats songs it finds on the internet. There are several reasons for this (most of them legal).

Please read FAQs on chordie's 'Resources' page for a longer explanation.

This also means that NO LYRICS can be posted in this forum.

You are however allowed to post links to songs on the internet, and you are allowed to post one-liners explaining how to play a song.

Any posting of lyrics may result in Chordie having to shut down! I will therefore automatically delete the account (and the songbook) of persons violating this rule, as well as ban their domain from accessing Chordie.

Please report any violation of this rule immediately!

It's actually quite basic, placing ones thumb on the back of the neck, halfway to 2/3rds of the way down (towards the ground) makes the reach more easily attainable and enables more psi(strength) to be profeciently applied to the fretboard, thus enabling the player to execute chords more effectively. Don't get intimidated or turned off by a suggestion to make life easier for you as a guitarist!! I'm smiling as I write this............

My first song that I learned complete was Derek and The Dominos "Bell Bottom Blues". It never has sounded 1/1,000,000 as good as this;

My most challenging song to date is probably Django Reinhart's "Manoir De Mes Reves"

Bri,

Fellow 41 year old here. I've been playing professionally for 24 years. Mostly small, local, gigs but somehow, someway the bills almost always manage to get paid. Your quest to learn at your age is admirable but not uncommon. I teach a few guitar lessons on the side and a great percentage of my students are over 40. It is never too late for one to learn and one can  never become too good to improve. That's the beautiful thing about music, it's a constant evolution of progress and creation. If you ever have any questions don't hesitate to ask. As you see from the responses you've received  there are many good people here on Chordie willing and eager to share their knowledge.

Have to agree with Jerome here on this one. For a beginner, which your lessons are targeted to, you must establish solid, correct technique. While using the thumb to reach certain bass notes or to assist in string muting may be acceptable and practical for an experienced player it's a BIG no-no for a beginner. I teach guitar(and have 25 years playing) and I place great importance on thumb placement behind the neck. This is one the most important basic fundamentals a beginning guitarist should adopt. Nice gesture with your gift of lesson, a tiny bit of tweeking is needed though.

Hello Dennis,
Per(The site owner) might be able to accomodate your request by inserting a left-handed option in the chord block section but in case he is unable to do this, get used to reversing and transposing the chord diagrams in your mind. I too am a fellow left-handed player and it took me a while but I am able to apply right-handed chord block diagrams to my left-handed playing with almost no trouble. Life is hard for us lefties?!?
Welcome to Chordie.

Hello Jeff,

Sweet little ditty, a great nighty-night time song. Thanks for sharing, my 2yr old and I really enjoyed. Nice mellow vocals, guitar picking, and smooth organ. A dreamy mix......

More information needed to obtain optimal assistance. What kind of music do you play? Who is your target audience? How many members are in your band? How many members sing?(harmonies?) How much time do you and your band members have to devote to your quest? What is the instrumental make-up of your band? (i.e. drummer, bass, 2 guitars, keyboard, washboard, spoons, tuba player??) These are just a few of the issues that need to be addressed before assistance can be most effective.

Drummer counts in, that's it. We're not even close to good enough to open on something big, so we keep it simple.

The stuff you play has a huge variety, and that's cool. If I remember right, you play everything yourself, using a looper, right? Very impressive. We keep it to one style because that's what the demographic we target is, and because we play tuned down half a step and none of us want to bring spare guitars for other styles. We're categorized as a punk band and we're fine with that.

You are always your worst critic and I'm sure you're better than you say. "Something big" is only a matter of relativeness. Thanks for the looping compliment and yes youare right about me and new best buddy, my loop. He's never late for a gig, never argues with my song selection, doesn't get mad at me when I play wrong notes, and best of all works for cheap! Best of luck to you and your Punk Rock band, I love me some Ramones and Sex Pistols.

Dear SGinCYQX,

You develop a style all your own. It's called being unique. And sarcasm was not my intent, your reply was unclear to me. My approach works for me, it obviously does't sit well with you but that's perfectly fine. We're all different and that's what spins the world 'round, to each his own. So what is your attention getter anyways?

Zurf,

My decision to leave the NRV was 100% financial. My family and I try to get up there about twice a year to visit my family. Most of my kin live there minus one sister who lives in Nashville. We really enjoy visiting with her too! My family and I dream of moving back to the NRV within the next 5 years. My wife is almost finished with her EED(Org.Leadership) and upon completion she hopes to become a professor/advisor/administrator at Va.Tech or Radford. It'll be tough leaving FL simply because of the amount of work I get down here playing music and the $ is surprisingly good. Maybe we can do what 75% of the people down here do and have dual residences?!?!

I did play with "Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin"!!! South Main Cafe in Blacksburg was our common venue. Bob is one of the coolest people on the face of the earth. He's still pumping out fantastic stuff and his live shows are better than ever. Are you familiar with "The Yams From Outer Space"? If you are I've got some intersting stuff to tell you about them. My band "DejaVoodoo" played such venues as; Lucky's downtown Radford, Hokie House and Buddy's in Blacksburg and a few others that I can't recall the names of? It was a while back ('87-'91) My band also played gigs with such bands as "Electric Woodshed", "The Kind", "The Locomotives", and Greg Albert's "Freak Show." Ah....the good ole days!

Cool, If you get her let me know what you think. For the price I may have to get one myself:) Peace!

I might need your help in persuading my wife that this guitar will be an equitable investment. The more positive posts, the better my chances are in proving my theory to the Mrs.. She mostly always replies " you must be the most equitable man in the world with your 22 guitars."/!?!?!? I play all of them, really!

Also, I don't know if you noticed or not but the guitar link I posted is a left-handed version. I'm sure they make a righty version I just wanted to make sure you didn't order the "wrong size".
