Well, I spent most of the day trying to find a place that will work.  Jeff's got to come into either Rochester or Albany... Zurf's going to be closer to my house than Albany while in Elmira... and I've got a few friends over in Mass and NYC that are interested.  However... trying to make plans in an area I'm not familiar with (Albany area) isn't so easy.  Either the campgrounds have great websites, and cruddy sites... or cruddy websites and possibly nice sites?  I might be throwing in the towel and saying... just come to my backyard if you can make it.  I have enough space for tents, I can hang up a "men's room" tarp amongst some of the trees that lead into the woods, and I have a bathroom to share.  We can have a fire and I even own a grill.  It's not heaven, but it's just as good as a campground.  There is the lake, literally within walking distance for day time activities.  Hmmm... What do you think?  End of July?

Thought you might find this post about Cigar Box Guitars on Chordie interesting:

I had to search for it, but I remembered there was some cool stuff!  Enjoy!!!

Reggae?  It sounds like a cross between rap and heavy metal and latino.  LOL!  That's interesting music.  I can't figure chords out, but wanted to post to help bring this to the top.  It's possible one of our other capable members can get some chords for you.  Welcome to the forum!!

I have been watching the news.  Seems our hero is beating himself up pretty badly.  He lived there a year and never noticed anything.  He knew the guy, barbequed with him, saw his "grandchildren" playing in the back yard with the dogs, and never noticed anything amiss.  During one interview he said something to the effect of, "either I'm really dumb, or this guy is that good."  He's beating himself up over being "really dumb".  That's tough, and he's clearly a lower class average Joe.  I feel for the dude.  I hope he is able to get past his own issues with this, and truly realize that he DID do something GOOD!

As far as neighbors... I can honestly say I don't know mine well at all.  I don't even know how many people live in that house.  I only know ABOUT them from other people that have told me they're good people.  I've lived here over 10 years and have only ever waved hello while mowing the lawn.  Up until now, it's been nice to not have nosy neighbors, and not be the nosy neighbor but to just co-exist quietly next door.  After my daughter disappeared Sunday (Autism... wandered off and within earshot never answered me when I was calling her - police were called to help search, etc...) and was found on our neighbors side porch hiding behind a large planter... I think it's time to bring over cookies and finally get to know them a little better.

edited a grammatical error that was eating away at me

Rochester is a little closer.  Yes Jeff!  I'll firm up some plans soon, in the event anyone else can make it as well to get the planning started.  Turns out my job will be winding down far sooner than thought as well, so I'll have lots of time on my hands this summer.  Thank God for the second job!

A note on tuning. I cannot quickly, easily, or accurately tune by ear so unless there is an electronic tuner readily available I do not persist with any guitar which is not in tune.

There's an app for that.

Seriously, if you have a smart phone, search your app store for guitar tuners.  I have a free one on mine which only plays the notes so that you can tune against them (so you do have to tune by ear).  But I believe there are ones you can buy for fairly cheap which turn your phone into a digital tuner.

gStrings is a free app that turns your phone into a digital tuner.  It's quite accurate as well.

Naoslager - sounds like a nice way to spend some time on a Sunday.  I enjoy going in and just playing, even if I'm not thinking of purchasing any time soon.  Have you tried Martin's 000-M yet?  I love mine.  While it will never be as full as a Dread, it's got quite a voice.  smile

Ok, so since it sounds like we have no serious takers and just a few maybes, I am just going to plan something with family in mind... and I'll let you all know when and where and of course your invited to join us in you can.  Jeff-Topdown, if you can make it close enough, we'll come get ya and bring ya back to the airport too!  Albany is only about an hour and a half or so from here.  I drive further than that daily for work.

KEEP NEXT YEAR in mind though all PLEASE!  My son is graduating next year and we've planned to have a huge blow out for him.  He's never had anything huge in his honor... so we're thinking BIG!  Although you don't see him on Chordie much, he's a big time lurker.  He's joined a few skype Jams as well and would love to have you all come.  This won't be a gift expected invite either... just a huge bash that'll be good ole backyard NY Redneck fun.  Any one of you coming would be more than gift enough.  So... stay tuned for 2014 plans!

Thi king of Jeffs situation.... maybe even near Albany somewhere near the Mohawk  could work. ALB airport is right there... or closer to me is SYR for those looking at planes... let me know what would work better that way too. I am totally not against picking people up at airports, train stations, or greyhound stops!

July and August are likely to be busy for me at work, so I will have limited time available to take off. However, with all this traveling I'm doing, I have a whole bunch of airline miles burning a hole in my wallet. If it's close enough to an airport Southwest flies, I may be able to make a 3 day weekend trip for it.

If need be, I would drive to Albany and pick you up.  Jim and I and the kids NEED to meet you in person! big_smile

Dino.... I would love to come back to Cali... but I probably can't get away without the kids this time, and that would just be too much money for five people.

So, I am thinking maybe the last week/weekend in July (although mid August isn't totaly out.).  So with that in mind, and thinking either central Ny (North Shore of Oneida Lake area if you need a better idea)... or further south a hair into Pennsylvania.  Give me an idea if you may be in or not and if you have a preference on area or accommodations (tents, rvs, etc??)  Oh... and also if youlan to fish... if you need a river, stream, or lake. Lol!

And I will miss another one. Stephie has a dane competition tonight. You all have fun. Play our song Jeff!! wink

So, my husband wants to know if we're all going to try to get together a little further north than Florida this summer.  Any takers?  I know Zurf was thinking about organizing something, and I'm good with that... but if not, I can try to organize.  Summer is fast approaching and we need to make plans soon if we are to take any time off (well, the hubby does anyhow).  Probably looking at late July or early August.  I know there were a few up here in the North East (and Canada) that were interested in getting together if only it were closer.  I'm thinking maybe PA won't be tooooooo far for anyone up north or down south, however, my backyard in rural Central NY also has plenty of room for FREE tent set ups, and there's some campsites near by if someone prefers that.  There's a lake just 2 miles away, and Salmon River is just a quick 30 minute drive.

Let me know what you all think - and Zurf, I'm happy to just hand this over to you if you want to make plans further south instead!  big_smile  Either way, I'll be supplying some delicious dead cow.

Glad you and your family are ok Joe.  Thanks for the info on the local channels.  I always wonder what the LOCAL new looks like compared to what we get here.  I might check that out today while I'm enjoying my day off.  wink  I agree wholeheartedly as well with Jerome.  I HATE when the media jumps and says anything and everything they hear, people make assumptions before any possible truth is known.  BUT... I agree with others too, there should be the harshest punishment possible for those found guilty.  I am hoping that the man left alive is co-operating now.  Not for HIS SAKE of course... but for those innocent families that need answers and all of us that need safety.

May I suggest clearing your cache and temporary files and then restarting your computer?  It's possible your browser could have the page image saved and is displaying an older image.  If the problem continues, contact admin@chordie.com - I am not having any issues today myself.

Like Russell said, it's a search engine.  So, to do what you're suggesting... well... would be a chore.  You would have to find a place to host your files and have them in the proper format for chordie to read them.  Then, you'd have to submit to the admin and he may or may not include all of them.  There is a program though for free that you can download and put your songs on (you'd have to format them properly).  Then at least you would have a computerized version.  I believe the program has apps for android and maybe ipads too.  There's a free version and a paid version.  If you are interested I can get the name of the program for you.

here and trying too figure a way to get amy too come and sing for me,she should be in ca.tomarrow. I am almost 400 mi away from Los Angles. Guess I will just keep wishing.

Hee hee hee!  I had a GREAT time in LA!  I NOW understand why they call it "Sunny California".  Got home and realllllly missed that constant sunshine and no rain.  It was a little colder than the weatherman said it would be, but it was still warmer than home (and sunny!).  I had a lovely poolside patio room that all were jealous of.  Although it seems silly to be excited about it, I got to see smog and homeless people.  I'm not "excited" about it, but it was an experience.  The plane ride was awesome flying across the US.  I have pictures of the Rockies from the sky, which is pretty cool.  OH... and I learned how to do my job.  And can I just say... TRI TIP = AWESOME.  Heated pool = AWESOME.  Hot Tub = AWESOME.  But the best part of all is that I met some folks from other places, and had a really great time hanging out in the evenings and relaxing for ONCE without the family.  I missed the kids and hubby, but it was so nice to just take care of ME for 6 days!  I am SOOOO glad I got back before the Boston Marathon too.  I can't imagine what the airport security must be like this week.

Thank you for the kind words on my voice.  Someone said something about putting plugs in your ears to hear yourself better.  I was thinking that myself, although it will also likely make you sing much quieter plus not hear the guitar as well and possibly sing more off key.  A good suggestion for getting better at singing is actually recording yourself.  When you do, you learn to hear what YOU really sound like and also can hear where you are off pitch to work on correcting it.  I don't know if that'll work for you or make things worse.  If you're not feeling great about your singing to begin with it can be really disheartening to hear yourself off pitch.

I like Jeff's suggestions the best, and I've enjoyed listening to him on Skype Jams (seriously, Jeff is not a great singer BUT he sings for the love of the music and THAT makes him enjoyable to listen to!!!)!  Play louder, and sing because you enjoy it... not because you want to be great.  Honestly, when I really REALLY belt it out, it's because I'm enjoying it... and it has nothing to do with trying to sound good.  So just do it for the love of music; for yourself.  Who cares what other people think unless you're trying to play in public.  Just enjoy the music in your soul!  smile

Desperado or Killing me softly.  I can't decide on just one. Desperado speaks to me but I "feel" Killing me Softly.

I'm with Dino - and I'll answer the end question, I'll buy the guitar at a local owned guitar shop if they have it (and the one they have is "speaking to me" as others have said).  Why?  Because I prefer to support the local owned businesses, not the big box stores, plus they tend to treat me better there (it's a personal shopping experience, they set up the guitar for free upon purchase, they remember who I am when I come in to pick it up, etc).

As for one other q you asked, do I get advise from others... Yes, why right here on the Chordie forums is my favorite place to go for advise.  Look around the forums and you'll see lots of it, and many answers to your questions via conversations you can view that have gone on in the past as well.  smile

Amy what part of california will you be at?

I'll be in LA... at the Marriot at LAX to be more specific.  Job training all day, then hopefully it will be warm enough to get my North East body under a little sun.  I think I'm starting to blend in with the snow.  :-D

Yes it is Zurf, but I couldn't join with video on the group skype jam.  That's what I figured with the google +

As for taking the guitar to California... I haven't flown since I was a kid so I've got a LOT of reservations about getting myself hurt or lost, forget about the poor guitar!  LOL!  My Martin happens to be the only guitar I have with a sturdy case.  Flying Blue out - so I don't think it'll fit as carry on, and USAIR back in which charges for each piece of checked baggage (oh, and I'll have a laptop that I am REQUIRED to carry on per company policy limiting my carry on limit severely).  If it weren't for having to switch flights on the way home, I might have considered it, but what if it gets lost or damaged?  Nah... I think I'll be by the pool after training each day anyhow.

Seriously though, I'd like to try google hangouts on the tablet.  It would save me having to buy a webcam just for Chrodie Jams (but if I must, you KNOW I WILL!).

NICE!  I like his math, and clearly his skills are excellent.  Nice to know you've got a Doc around that you can trust and clearly loves what he's doing.
