I had a blast. Although Cam was missed, Pix, Mrs. Pix, Tubatooter and John (a friend of Toots) showed up for the jam. Toots showed up shortly after the completion of a fantastic football game between my alma mater (NC State) and Mrs. Pix team, UNC. It was a fantastic game, going down to the last minute. I can only hope that Mrs. Pix wasn't too put off by all my yelling and rubbing it in - she seemed like a good sport and I expect no less from her come basketball season.
Pix brought along a couple of identical Yairi's, one with a sound port and one without. It truly was amazing to compare the 2 and view his handi-work up close. The sound port makes a HUGE difference to the player's ear - a fantastic modification I would be happy to have on any acoustic. Pix - next time bring your tools - I'd like to have ports added to both my wood acoustics!
We pretty much went around a circle, each playing a tune from their songbook, but I believe TubaT stole the show, after all - he has decades of experience in the music biz, where Pix and I are both relative beginners. It was wonderful to hear his stories and play along with his vast song book, including so many comedic type songs. What fun. After several beers, he brought out the Tuba and that was great also.
Here are a couple of photo's from the jam. Sorry for the quality apparently the camera was seeing blurry (like I was) instead of using it's auto-focus. Toots also made a video of the 3 of us playing Jerry Mungo's "In The Summertime" that I am dreading to see / hear. I can only hope that the Tuba drowned out most of my vocals.
