Very false.

The person below me has a dog who peed on one of the gifts under the tree, and they're considering just leaving it the way it is becaues it's for family, and heck, family would understand.....wait, that's me, forget that one.

OK, um...the person below me still has shopping to do.

Came in the mail yesterday--very, very excited.  Got it from a website called Lark in the Morning, they have an incredible aray of unusual insturments from all over the world--very cool stuff.

Great song SP!

OK, I'm going to go with Home by Chris Daughtry...however you spell it.

Forever Yours--Rod Stewart

False...I'm too busy snoring

The person below me has done Christmas shopping on their computer during work

For what it's worth, I'm a seagull / simon & patrick fan.  But my #1 acoustic is one you don't hear alot about--Carvin.  Great guitar for a very fair price.  Thing is, you have to order it direct so you don't get the chance to play it first, but I have to tell you, the only guitar I've played that would trump the sound of my carvin is a lavavee (probably spelled that wrong), and a Taylor Koa.  You can check them out on their web site if you want. www.carvin.com .  Very low action, grover tunners, blah, blah, blah.  Very full bodied rich sound.

Nobody's Home--Avril Levine

Just so you know, I logged in when it was "H", and I wanted to put Hotel California, but yea, like I can play that, so I'll go with the four chord Avril song.

I know on E-Chords, there's a little piano symbol next to the song sometimes--I assume if you click on it something will pop up...I just always click the little guitar.  FYI, to print the info, you have to join.

What's that song by the Plain White T's....forget the world....if I just lay here...something like that.  Whenever I start playing that, every high school girl in the room says "I LOVE that song".  I'd go with that one...whatever it's called.

Welcome!
Got my first guitar for my my 40th Birthday, 6 years ago,  my addiction is very serious--for instance I gutted a bathroom in my house about 6 months ago...it's still gutted due to finances, but I have found the cash for two new guitars!
My wife jumped into the mix 2 years ago with a bass, and I'm giving her an acoustic for christmas.
Good to have you.
Frank.

Be interesting for any of us to do a blind test--go into a guitar store, play some insturments not knowing the brand & see what we think.

Jeome, I was thinking about this when I was playing last night--my thumb is on the back of the neck, but it's not flat.  I have a callous where it allways hits--it's like near the nuckle joint, toward the inside.  Should I be more on the pad of my thumb?

Zurf is all over this one, practice, practice, practice.
Very important to keep your thumb on back of the neck, so you're not just pressing with your index finger, you're pinching the neck between your thumb and finger.
On the lower frets, I tend to "roll" my index finger a bit and it makes a bit of a "C" shape"...I just seem to get a more complete barre.  When I get north of the fifth fret, it seems to straighten out.  Don't know if this is text book proper, but it works for me.
Did I mention you should practice?  Try making an E with your middle, ring, and pinky fingers.  Then just slide it down a fret, and throw your index finger across the first fret for an F.  Then move the whole thing up so the barre is across the third fret (that's a G), and then move it up to the fifth fret for an A.  If you want to go really crazy, move it up to the 7th position for a B!
Oh, I almost forgot....practice.
Good Luck!
Frank

It really does...she talks about tuning like, 90 strings with a tuning fork---think I might spring for a $14 tuner while I'm at it!

My mom is from Ausburg Germany--she played the Zither in her youth, but war being war and all, lost it in '44.

So for Christmas this year, we're getting her a Zither (thank heavens for the internet!).  So, any Zither players out there who can give me advice on where to get books, music, etc.?

Looking forward to jaming with my mom...I'll be on my les paul, she'll be on her zither....have to figure out a way to plug the thing in!
