Thanks Tennessee. I'll try the selector switch. I think I maybe need to leave the guitar in the case from now on. I do have a Casino on the way, but it doesn't compare to the SG. Hopefully it's an easy fix.

The neck pickup in my SG-EMG 81-is refusing to function properly. It's intermittently cutting in and out, and losing the signal. The other one is fine, and it happens in both my amps. What's wrong?

I have a modeling pedal, a very nice one that was given to me by a friend of mine when he sold off his gear. I used to use it all the time to emulate different tones, now I use it just for wah, reverb, chorus and delay. Not all together. If I'm modeling an amp with it, I'm getting as close as I can to my Valve Junior, most likely because I'm plugged into a PA or into my computer.

Now, it's the same few guitars for me every time. Either my Casino or my SG. Usually the SG. That goes into my Valve Junior with everything up at eleven. Occasionally the RP with the effects I listed above. I always sound the same and I love it, personally.

Argh, why do people think Buckethead is so great? He has no musicality whatsoever.

If I wanted my instrument to do ten different things, I'd buy a keyboard. (I have one, but that's besides the point). As a guitarist, I pick the sound I like and stick with it. No fancy digital crap, no modeling to make my SG sound like a Telecaster, Strat, or anything else.

And one more thing: I can tune my own damn guitar, thanks anyway Gibson.

Strats are for girls get a man`s guitar and I`m not talking about a Les Paul log , I`ve had a Tele for years and it has been said to make me look quite appealing , which is saying summat .

Do you really want me to pick apart all the things wrong with that statement?

I still like simplicity. My rig has five knobs, total. Four of those are on the guitar.

Hi Tennessee Strat - I see your point, but I think this innovation goes beyond styling and actually does improve the utility of the product.  An instrument that tunes itself does have a certain 'gizmo' appeal - but beyond that, an instrument that can re-tune itself to different tunings is very intriguing.

I would love to see the same technology applied to other electric stringed instruments and eventually to acoustics also.  A self-tuning violin would be amazing.  A self-tuning banjo would be even better - the world might finally actually hear banjo music actually in tune!

In all seriousness though . . . back to the car/guitar idea - some folks really only want a standard transmission because they like manually shifting the gears.  Give me an automatic any day.

By the way - Tom Petty has been known to play Gibsons.
I'm guessing that he'll be playing a Gibson Robotic Guitar at the Super Bowl half time show.
Now that would be a product placement coup!

Standard transmissions are about control, FWIW...

But I see your point. I still won't buy one, and I still will detest the sound of a Banjo even if it is in tune!:P

I wouldn't touch either one with a ten foot stick.

I LOVE Journey's "Don't Stop Believing".

Actually, danspr, for an unlimited-budget acoustic I'd take a Martin or a Taylor over a Gibson.

I use a capo probably more than I should, mostly because I much prefer the sound of an open chord to a barre chord.

Why on earth would you want to modify your hot rod deluxe!? I happen to think they have an awesome tone without touching a thing. Maybe you would want to upgrade the speaker, but they sound glorious from the factory. I'd advise saving your money and upgrading parts on your guitar or maybe buying a couple pedals.

HRD's are good amps. With a little work they can be amazing amps.

I keep hearing they're more than the sum of their parts-maybe I need to try an MIA.

Or maybe why do I not like them? I've played a Mexican Strat and a Squier-did nothing for me and I thought the Squier was total crap. Maybe I need to try an MIA Strat?

Want to add something here...

"One is never old until regrets take the place of dreams"

If you're still playing, that hasn't happened yet. Therefore, you're still young!:D

Keep at it! Good luck!

One more thing-I don't reccomend a trem on your main guitar. My Casino has a Bigsby that's all right tuning wise, but still more of a pain than the SG.

I know the guy who makes them, actually. I live about four hour's drive from St. John's.

I've got two Epiphones, higher end ones. I love mine.

I like my Epiphones, lots of guys like Squiers. I'm not being real helpful, I know, but the best I can do is tell you to try both.

Ken, that's quite a range there! I bet you never get borred huh. A few of those I've never seen anything like before. Nice! Peace!

You have a Garrison? That's the company in St. John's, correct? How do you like it?
