I would choose Ryan Adams over BRian Adams everytime....is this what you're asking?

Great choice Wayne. That's one of Dylan's best for sure (and with his catalog that is saying something). I'm a sucker for that song from Paul Stookey song too. I think it's called the Wedding Song. I know it's over used but I still like it.

Going through the same thing here. Your lyrics resonate for sure. Trying to keep optimistic which has never been easy for me. I'll be out in a month or so for sure so I'm hitting the ground running got a few good leads. I've never been laid off before in 25 years of woking....

Great song thanks for sharing. Keep smiling and strumming it'll all work out

Once again a masterful job...great cover

I like his style always have. I think as you progress you'll find there are much harder styles to play than this one for sure. Fast but pretty straightforward.

I was thinking just the opposite.  It's clear that I have to learn to play and sing while drinking whiskey.  That's my fault for practicing sober.

Wow...perhaps you're right. But to become really good you'll have to be intoxicated most of the time for practice purposes. So you're gonna have to learn to work while intoxicated which is actually pretty pleasant so long as you have a desk job wink

Well done. You really have a great voice. I'm not taking away from the song writing or your playing but your voice is strong....Again, well done.

SO you can't hear and are in isolation? Without hearing I can't see the point?

Good Luck!!!! Just stepping onto the stage proves you've got what it takes. Have a couple of drinks before hand; just enough to dull the nerves not enough to cripple the ability smile

My funk meter is really low.

Have you been neglecting your funk changes?  You need to get a funk change after every 3,000 songs.  I recommend Dr. John's Iko Iko or perhaps War's Low Rider at loud volume.  Dr. John brands his funk as fonk, but even a fonk change is good for you.   If those don't do you, try looking up a band out of Texas named Mingo Fishtrap.  They'll get you all funked up.

Or George Clintobn's band "Funkadelic".

There is good and bad in every musical genre (yes, even Rap) as well in every era. There is also alot of garbage for every style and time period. Your mind and ears are opening up and that's a good thing. Listen to it all without bias and let your ears make their own decision.

I used to think I hated country but then I realized I hated Pop Country.

I used to hate Rap and then I listed to Snoop Dogg's 1st album. If you don't nod your head during Gin and Juice you need to get your "funk" checked!!!!!

Bottom line is every genre has something to offer smile

But you had the courage to buy a fretless and that in itself is laudable

Hi Geo, thanks for your comment.

The band thing is going really well actually. I'm only really singing in the band as they already have 2 solid guitarists in place. I quite enjoy just singing actually but recently we've been playing a couple of my songs (Ghosts and What's Begun - on here as When I least Expected) and I think they're going to start making it into our sets. Amazing how they change and grow with the full band. Quite something!

The first gig is on the 21st of August. I can't wait. It's sold out already so it should be a good night all round. I'll put a post in the gigs section nearer the time. Till then I'm just going to keep busy and writing to stop me getting tooooo nervous!!

Cheers buddy.

Mark

Awesome news. Isn't it really strange when a full band "fills out" one of your songs? It takes on a life of it's own. Sometimes I can't remember what they used to sound liek before. Good luck at your first gig!!
