I signed up on ESPN sometime ago, but, it's such a pain to find things there. So I rarely, if ever go there. But, if you need sports or a place to comment and have the attention span to weed thru a lot of dreck, then got to ESPN and have fun.
This is chordie, music is the main theme here, all else is fun and frivolity and friendship. Sort of like a family friendly pub and/or coffee house. We banter, bicker and exchange ideas.
Peace

Re: Things I learned on Facebook. (30 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
The thing with FB, is to use it have fun, but be cautious. I never post vacation plans until after I get back. I never post anything that I don't want coming back and bite me in the butt. As in really personal stuff or really angry rants. I have another place for that. I also have the privacy controls for, friends only, to read and see the pictures I post. For me, FB is a toy and a tool and I take good care of my toys and tools.
When I first started, I got lots of friend requests from people I didn't know or had mutual friends. Since then I have learned about people who accumulate friends like it's some sort of contest. And FB has it's own peculiar spambots, mostly porn. I also prefer to friend people from forums if they send me a message, letting me know who they are. SouthPaw is one of them, but, then I met him personally so it was cool.
SouthPaw also uses FB to spread the word about his gigs. My guitar and singing teachers have pages and they are my friends, but they also have an FB page for professional purposes. And in the music biz, it's easy to accumulate a lot of friends and make connections.
Like anything else on the internet, a little common sense goes a long way. I can understand people who don't care about it. Then there's the group that live for this stuff, like myspace or other social networks. Now that's something I can't understand.

Fwiw, I have a FB page and I love it. I use it as a sort of zen blog, posting links to youtube videos, posting quotes from my collection or just venting and being a bit eccentric. I play none of the games and rarely do the quizzes since I think they quite stupid. I only have 56 friends, a mix of family, high school, college, and real life friends and some mutual friends who are pretty cool in their own right. I never stay on that long anyhow. Plus a lot of my friends don't use it a lot anyway. It's just a tool to keep in touch and have a bit of fun.
And Zurf, that was hysterical. I love the muppets! LOL

Good Luck to you Brother Zurf!
Like Cam, I tend to hover right in that 155-160 range year round, and at 6' if I lost more than ten pounds I'd have to staple my jeans to my scrawny butt to keep the things up! The better half on the other hand is always struggling to control her weight, and everytime she changes diet, I lose weight! Go figure....
Keep up the good work, and we're pullin' for ya!
Take Care;
Doug
Small world, my wife has the same problem. She's gone vegetarian with the occasional meat treat.......if I cook it. No problem there, <grin>
Also, Zurf, a couple of small glasses of wine is ok per day. Beer can be the occasional treat and if you have one, make it a good tasty brand. A local microbrew might be the ticket. Other drinks like sherry or brandy can have a lot of calories. In a nutshell, you must reward yourself in some fashion when you reach your goals and stay there. Beer and wine are signs from God that he loves us and wants us to be happy!

Good luck Zurf,
Your health is of the upmost importance, I've been lucky in my life as far as that goes, no health problems so far at 54, I'm one of those that can eat whatever and never gain an ounce. While I still stay active, I'm sure there are things I could change"my diet" and do better. I admire your effort and wish you good luck with this.
Cam
Ditto, though I have put on a bit of weight since I got married and wandered into middle age. (150 pounds and 6 feet tall) I did get up to 170 pounds, but, started going along with my wife's healthy eating habits and making a point of walking 1-2 miles a day. I'm one of those lucky people blessed with an absurdly high metabolism. I hated it when I was a young beanpole, but, now it's paying dividends.
Anywho, I agree, your health is supremely important. Add some walking or biking to your routine. Not only good exercise for the body, but a mental health break as well.
Take care.

As long as you play it and love it, keep it. Seems to be a rule of thumb. If it lies forgotten or left alone for a long time..........then it might be time to send it off someplace else.
Just my thoughts!

other comparative good news. I work with a guy that complains to me that he and his wife spend
$140 US on cigarettes a week.... With the help of my trusty calculator, thats a new guitar every two months or a new super nice guitar every 4 months.. Just a thought...
A very true thought. Take the money you spend on the stink weed and apply it to something else...................................something else with more permanence!

Hey Oz, was that Peter, Paul and Mary, or the Kingston Trio. If it was, I know it was an early 60's group, I wouldn't worry tooooo much about copyright. by now they're all waaay tooo old to remember who did what in those heady days.
Kingston trio did the version that I remember best. And Pete Seeger did it as well. We just did it in our group string band class.
According to my book, "Rise up Singing" It was written by the Fall River Music Inc in 1961. Inspired by 3 lines of an old Ukrainian folksong.
Since it's still up, I'll assume that my cheeky variation hasn't violated any chordie rules.
Pete Seeger, what an awesome dude, still pickin and a singin'. He's my role model of what I want to be if I reach my nineties!

I hear you, and Braylon Edwards of the Jets and DUI. If I was the owner, I would have booted them out. But, then again, I'd probably make a lousy owner. Seems like the NFL is getting back to the National Felony League, AGAIN.

College or semi-pro football is not something I care about or follow. Then again, I've never been much of sports buff to begin with. I have my guilty pleasures on ESPN and ESPN2. JRIB, Around the Horn, PTI, or Sports Nation. But only when my time allows and when I need a good smirk. LOL

Shogun by James Clavell was an excellent read! The story is very similar to the movie The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise but the character development is way more interesting.
