The strum is the "heartbeat" of the song; you can imitate the original, upbeat or downbeat it, or even change it to a style that more suits your voice or music style preference, but it is as essential to the integrity of a song played acoustically, as correct chords/changes and melody. If a song is strummed poorly, it it immediately ruins it. Done well, it enhances it.

Bertrand Arthur William Russell, 3rd Earl Russell, OM, FRS[1] (18 May 1872 – 2 February 1970) was a British philosopher, logician, mathematician, historian, and social critic (Wkikpedia)

I read this quote as a teenager in the early 70's and the Vietnam era and it stayed with me as a very stark truth about the futility and waste of war, as well as the little play on the meanings of left and right.

Hope he's a Chordie fan, then he can on board and share his frustrations with us, i know how he feels sometimes when that much searched for sound remains elusive, but I havn't quite got to the guitar smashing phase.  There may be others in my household who feel i should have long ago!!

I have a Walden 12 which is dead easy to play and rich tone. There are just some songs that need a 12 - Pink FLoyd, America, etc.

I have a disc pickup for my 12 string - just uses suction to stay on the guitar body. the sound varies depending on where you place it.

St Paddys was a beautiful day down in Dunedin, New Zealand also, had a huge night of music, food and whiskey, and the beer ran green. Thank you St Patrick for giving us the reason...!

My wife bought me my last guitar  (after a not so subtle hint).
If said make me a sammich, I'd then have to duck pretty damn quick to avoid the Glasgow kiss (she being of that ilk, she is quite fiery!). All in all a happy partnership!!

His movies are very entertaining - both musically and visually. I follow them quite regularly.

Go to his own web site: mysteryguitarman.com, and on Facebook too.

I have no trouble remembering chords, and can usually fit chords to songs I havent played before, but i am absolutely useless at remembering lyrics of songs, so i always need to print them off to play a song - thanks Chordie! The ideal situation is for someone else to sing that knows all the words, and I will play along with them.

Yet again we celebrate the Auld Bard's birthday with whisky and song.

There's nane that's blest of human kind,
But the cheerful and the gay, man,
Fal, la, la, &c.

Here's a bottle and an honest friend!
What wad ye wish for mair, man?
Wha kens, before his life may end,
What his share may be o' care, man?

Then catch the moments as they fly,
And use them as ye ought, man:
Believe me, happiness is shy,
And comes not aye when sought, man.

My first was an Angelica acoustic. quite a nice guitar but I've never heard of the brand since. It was left behind in my flat in my college days 35 years ago, so i adopted it!
