I agree with american chaos theory (nice name by the way :-) ). I play from the heart and use the scales as a tool to do this. If you played from the heart but didnt have the tools to do so and sound good then there is no point really.

That scale you wrote is the Am scale not Em. Em starts on the 12th fret

If you are right handed i find the easiest way is to rest the guitar on your right leg. If you are left handed then rest it on your left leg. If you are a classical player then if you are right hand rest it your left leg and vise versa.

Re: how many guitarplayers play acoustic, how many electric (30 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I tend to write a riff on the electric and then write a bass line. I tend only to use chords and an acoustic for slow ballads.

Itrs up to you really, if the sound fades than strum again. I tend to strum pretty fast for metal. Metal is played with power chords generally, not open chords. If you dont know what power chords are just ask me.

I always find that if you are lacking inspiration, put on your favourite cd and just play along and solo. Usally after ive done that i feel pretty stoked.

I like the floating bridge on the sg. I makes it easier to pick and palm mute and the sg is just a great sounding and playing guitar. Mind you I wouldn't be dissapointed if I had a strat though, their both top guitars.

Re: Anyone around my age? (73 replies, posted in Electric)
hey, I'm 14. Ive got an epi SG and an acoustic electric aswell. I live in Australia (or as you Yanks would call it, osstaralia). i'm glad to see more people my age signing up, it was getting a bit boring. I like your signature, Jimi Hendrix is awesome, but I reckon Voodoo Child (slight Return) is better.

Spot on there jpage_roxmysox. Everyone my age listens to hiphop and pop music and all that kind of crap. I seem to to be the only kid in my year who actually knows and feels the guitar, not just thrash out powerchords and copy the solos of the original recording. I don't know any one except my best friend who has actually heard led zepplin, rolling stones, p-funk etc. Im glad to know theres other people out there actually taking time to learn the scales and the theory and all that stuff because if you do you'll be a much better player.
I live in semi-rural (country) Australia and theres never any guitar comps or anything out here. Do you have a real tele or just a copy?

Re: Tanglewood (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Thanks for your advice. Yes I did play the guitar in the shop and it sounded really nice, it had a deep warm sound unlike the cheaper guitars which were obnoxiusly bright and tinny. While I was at the shop I did tune it into open d and played a bit of slide and it sounded good.

Im thinking about getting an $800 tanglewood. It seemed to be the best value and had a solid front and sides. It also had a pick-up. Any-one know anything about them that i should know before buying it?

I'd have a Fender Stratocater with a floyd rose tremolo (can you get them with one?) in a three tone sunburst.
Also a worn cherry gibson sg would be nice.

I taght myself for the first 4 months or so and by then could easily play chords, barre chords, read tab, solo on pentatonic scales and other stuff. I got a teacher and i improved even quicker with him. He taught me jazz chords, how to improvise on other scales. Basically what im saying is...
