just rented this on DVD, and I'm really considering buying it. Did anyone here get a chance to see the concert live?

In case you've never heard of it before, the concert was almost like a an guitar invitational, Clapton invited all of the classic guitar greats (BB King,  james Taylor, Joe Walsh, Carlos Santana and SO many more) and a couple new faces like John Mayer. It was an amazing concert, most of it improv, that showed the verstility of the guitar as well as the musicians playing it. I highly reccomend watching this, and I think there may be a CD as well. Hate to sound like I'm selling something, but this was truly awesome and inspirational, and i think it's a must see for all guitarists.

The band was formed by Page shortly after his original group, The Yardbirds, split up on an American tour. Page returned to his hometown of London hoping to form a new Yardbirds from scratch. John Paul Jones, the bassist/keyboardist responded to one of Page's newspaper ads and Page discovered vocalist, Robert Plant in Birmingham at a cafe where Plant was singing blues. Plant then invited his old hometown friend, John Bonham to join the band. Even after the band was formed they were the "New Yardbirds."

Moddish mentioned that Page originally wanted Keith Moon to join the New Yardbirds, this was true, but Keith didn't join because he thought the band would "sink like a lead zeppelin" thus the new name, Led Zeppelin...so in your face Keith Moon!

did a quick search on the serial number... the only guitar that came up was a silvertone acoustic. this site doesnt give much info, but has a link to silvertones site, hope this helps!

I usually print the songs individually. Just click on the song, go to the toolbar on the right, find the box that has icons for full screen, email song, and print. Click print, and it should print it  in excellent format that does not contain ads etc. good luck, hope this helps.

Just like there are some topics you never discuss at the dinner table (i.e. religion and politics) there are some topics that you shouldn't write songs about, like this. Dont get me wrong, everyone here is happy to see new songs being posted here, but try to keep them from touching such an angry and hateful level.

kahuna has a very good point! if you do happen to find a problem in your setup do not try to fix it yourself!
take it down to your local shop and ask their opinion and have them fix it, unless its something you are sure you can easily fix yourself.

Okay, in general, what are some of the songs that everyone always asks you to play? I tried asking my family but I got mostly "you mean you cant play van halen yet?" and requests for songs by tesla and xtreme. What are some songs that somewhat normal people always ask you to play?

#1: I like the Behringer.

#2: You can plug an acoustic-electric into an electric amp, but you are not going to get that full-bodied acoustic sound.  Electric amps are made to distort sounds. You can plug an electric into an acoustic-electric amp, but, you are going to have a cleaner sound some musicians don't prefer for an electric guitar.  If you want to see for yourself, go down to your local shop and plug an electric into an acoustic-electric amp or vice versa, you'll instantly notice the difference.

#3: it depends on what kind of amp you get, if you toggle the controls around enough, you can probably get the sound you're looking for, although acoustic-electric amps tend to have distortion knobs similar to electric amps.  The only difference is that it does not distort as much

reasoning: try this, finger a chord shape, any one, on an electric without plugging it into an amp. strum. Hard to hear isn't it? This is because the sound is meant to be pushed through different parts of the amp (becoming a bit distorted along the way) then pushed out into the air.
now, finger a chord shape on an acoustic, again with no amp. strum. louder isn't it? The acoustic guitar is made to amplify it's own sound without the help of an amp, thus the sound hole.

sorry to ramble, but my guitar teacher gave me a huge lecture on this and I'm happy to share it with someone tongue

anyways good luck, hope I helped!

70% acoustic
30% electric

I, like phil, enjoy sitting in front of the comp teaching myself songs off chordie. (Although I'm also a fan of the print feature that prints out the song and ONLY the song) I also write most of my songs with my acoustic. Probably 80%-90% then I add in electric pieces after I finish the basics.

It kind of makes sense. lol, I have written many a song that doesn't make any sense. it means its coming straight from your heart, the hard part about songwriting is taking those words from your heart and getting them to make sense to everyone else. keep writing!

for some reason the porch swing line just makes the song for me...also, the phrase "bluer than you" adds a kind of attitude to the song. great work, keep writing!

rj, u bring up another point, guitar, like many forms of art, is stable.  I forget who said this, but i know someone once said that the arts are man's way of coping with the world.  Which is so true, I think the world would be a lot more sad/angry if it weren't for music.

Good point SG, I think its a little sad when I can play better than guys my age tongue emo, im glad you mentioned jimmy eat world, they do have a really good guitarist, but theyre really an overlooked/underrated band i think, especially guitarwise.

Altex: its a real tele, its a squier a brand branched off of fender.  i'm not a big fan of Fender Teles, I think squiers have much better tone.

moddish: It really surprises me how some people can begin to play guitar/bass then just give up on it! I've been playing for a year and  a half, and I've learned so much that if i were to give up now it would seem like such a waste of all those hours of practice.

patrick: wow, i had no idea so many guys started to get chicks... come to think of it guitar players are a little more attractive, more sensitive i think.

o means that you play the string as an open string (no fingers on the fretboard)
x means you do not play/strum the string at all, or you can muffle the string, place a finger over it, but do not press hard enough to produce a sound

guitar hero is kind of lame. Yet, there are so many people who play it. (and think its just as cool as real gutiar) there's a guitar hero tournament at this concert hall not to far away, im thinking about showing up with my tele, and being like... get a life, play REAL guitar.

Yea, Ethan, I replied.

Being a chick, I learned to play mostly because I started listening to zeppelin and
ACDC, and im like whoa, gutiars sound awesome! I was raised in the 90's, very not rock n roll.  Then you hear the old stuff and you're like, hey what happened to this? I'm also a writer, so a guitar is a great, and easy way to some up with song ideas. Like SG, I also found myself hooked on blues, just because it sounds neat.  Playing blues is also pretty awesome because almost ALL rock guitarists base their stuff on blues!
but yea... rock on class of '11!
