'moddish: It really surprises me how some people can begin to play guitar/bass then just give up on it! I've been playing for a year and a half, and I've learned so much that if i were to give up now it would seem like such a waste of all those hours of practice.'

J Page, You've no idea how much I regret not sticking with it. At the time I knew no one how was playing and a combination of not being able to source any help and generally being more interested in hanging out with girls kinda put the Kaibosh on things! lol

Now Im sticking at it as best I can and coming on slowly but surely.......even though I can't find anyone to play with I aint giving up this time!! smile

Like I said earlier, stick at it, improve and love every minute of it........music is a gift and should be enjoyed on as many levels as possible. smile

Craig.

Well my favourite is the late John Entwistle of The Who. He brought much much more to The Who than he was ever given credit for. Remember he played in a rhythmn section with Keith Moon who was more of a lead drummer!!! lol

John held that group together, whether or not that makes him the greatest I do not know, but for me he definetely is right up there.

Craig.

Well I started playing last year at the age of 32. Something I wanted to do years ago but never did. When I was 14 I got an acoustic from Santa but only new 2 chords and never stuck at it......something I regret no end! No lessons and no internet sites for me to learn from, but in all honesty it was laziness on my part.

So, if I can just say this without beinga all preachy like, All you youngsters that are starting out don't ever give up on it. Persevere and get better and dont put it aside till yer in yer 30's.....you WILL regret it. smile

Yep, same as Roger here. I've only been using fingers 1,2 and 3 as well.....although I do concede Roger has had a little bit more experience than me, lucky bugger.......say about 49 yrs!! lol

I have been practicing with 2,3 and 4 though so as I can change to a G7 I think it is, a bit quicker. But I can hit the C and D easily enough the way I usually play. It's all down to preference really isn't it. smile

Phil,

Ginger Baker of Cream fame was a jazz drummer as was Charlie Watts of the Stones, Dunno how anyone would rate them outside of Jazz, but I'd say they could turn their hand to pretty much any style.

Thanx for that Cytania.

I've been looking at the Line 6 Pods, may just spring for one, buying a vintage stack is a bit of a no no when you live in an Appt. though! smile

Cheers for the heads up on the lack of pedals as well. smile

Personally I keep all my nails short, especially on my fretting hand. For tapping it's like everything else, it's gonna be a matter of personal prefrence. I'd imagine it would be easier if they were short though. smile

I'm trying to get a tone similar to Clapton during his Cream era, White Room, Badge, that sort of thing.

I'm using a Mex Strat through my practise amp (Marshall MG15CDR) and only have one pedal to me name, a Jim Dunlop Cry Baby Wah.

It feels like I've twiddled my pots and amp settings through every conceivable setting and still aint nowhere near it. Does anyone have any advice on how best to achieve this sort of tone? maybe I need another pedal or something?

All advice appreciated. Hanx.

Personaly I reckon that Chordie is good enough as it is tbh. If any new areas were to be added it's my opinion that only two would be needed;

A welcome area; to encourage any lurkers (there are a few methinks) to join the other areas and part with some of their wisdom or indeed ask any questions they have.

A miscelanous area; For.....well all the miscelanous stuff I suppose, What ye listening too, who have you seen in concert, where are you from....that sort of thing.

This is a great site as it is and I don't think a glut of areas is really needed.

Just my humble opinion like.

I'm looking for some advice, inspiration....anything!!

Having just penned another song...well, my second song if I'm honest, I've hit a brick wall trying to get some chords that sit nicely with the lyrics and flow of the song.

Now, I don't have a problem just sitting around and thumping out chords in no particular order, nor with any rhyme or reason too 'em. So why is it I just can't get the goddamn chords to flow for my new song....which I'm rather pleased with I have too say. I don't wanna consign this one to the scrap paper pile...

So, what do I do??? Should I just leave it for a few days, maybe just lift a chord structure from another song? I'm really stuck in a rut with this and would greatly appreciate any advice folks.

....Loved too have seen but never did?

Well, we've got the bands you have seen thread going, pretty good one as well I reckon.

But, what about that ONE band you never managed to see? Maybe they were split up before your time, maybe your woman/man made you choose...the gig or me..in which case she/he should have been slung out!!

Perhaps you never 'got' them at the time or didn't do gigs at the time.

Anyway, who is that one group or artiste you wished you had seen and why?

For me it's The Clash.

The Beatles, Zeppelin, Kinks, Sex Pistols etc were all in with a shout, but the sheer energy, lyrical content and musical diversity of The Clash swung it in the end.

Everyone of the groups mentioned were all split up by the time I hit gig going age, so I'm off back too 1979 for a Clash gig!

Got tae agree with Simon and Garfunkell.

Plenty of good uns out there, but for me they were pretty much in a league of their own.

Craig.

Mmmmmh, I have too say that having read Nick Masons' book I kinda got the impression he didn't really have much time for or indeed anything to do with Syd when he left the band. Maybe I picked it up wrong though.

Oasis - Loch Lomond.

U2 - celtic park, The Piggery, Tattie Field, Manky Dome, The Zoo etc etc....Pick any name they all work!! Hey, I'm a Glasgow Rangers man.....it's allowed!!

The Who - Glasgow.

The Stones - London.

Those are amongst the biggest I've attended, along with loads of Festivals and Raves.

Primal Scream, Stiff Little Fingers, Stereophonics, Prodigy and Happy Mondays are amongst the best I've seen (along with the ones mentioned above).

Mind you, in saying that I reckon EVERY gig I attend is fantastic. From the little guy with an acoustic to the Stadium Rockers with their entourage.....I just Love music.
