Where can one get software to create and edit chordpro files, other than Chordpro Manager?

I have a trial version of that and would be prepared to pay for the full version but   the contact details on the trial version seem to have gone dead.

Very often the song starts and ends on the key chord but not always.

But I do agree that showing the key is a good idea. If a song is in Chordpro format the key can be included.

These the I, IV and V chords for the main major keys for 'easy' guitar. There will be minor chords in between but you can usually recognise the key fom it's 3 major chords.

Key of A: A, D, E
Key of C: C, F, G
Key of D: D, G, A
Key of E: E, A, B
Key of G: G, C, D

Get the pianist to play the 3 chords and (s)he should be able to recognise the key.

This wasn't meant in any way to be put-down to people who work in retail, just a rant about a ''superior' attitude of a small number of individuals I have come across. I don't want anyone bowing and scraping before me either. Just customer service - civil, friendly, reasonably knowledgeable about the product being sold, willing to admit they don't know everything. If you happen to meet such person when you're about to spend hundreds of €€€€€, all the better for both sides of the transaction!

Any Ovation with a few miles up has these. Mine's a 29-year-old 1615 12-string. You can always feel around inside to see if the cracks are in the wood.

Are you aware of www.ovationfanclub.com ? Great resource, answers every possible Ovation question.

Sure, we can project our attitudes etc. and of course I too in a way would like to be a rock star rather than be in the 'normal' job that i do! And you never know what's happening in someone's life. But I feel strongly that people should not be made to feel intimidated in a retail store, even if they aren't sure what they want and need some advice.

Time for a rant. In this post http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8515, an up-and coming guitarist worries that staff in a music shop might not take her seriously.

Unfortunately, there is sometimes this incredibly arrogant attitude among SOME sales staff, wherby they 'd only accept your hundreds of euro/dollars/quid etc. if you prove that you are worthy. If they are that good themselves, why are they selling guitars instead of playing them for a living?

Can you get a mobile phone that incorporates a metronome and/or a guitar tuner? Or even a single accurate reference note?

Male or Female?    You might not have known this, but a lot of non -living objects are actually either male or female.  Here are some examples:

FREEZER BAGS: They are male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.
PHOTOCOPIERS: These are female, because once turned off; it takes a while to warm them up again.
They are an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can also wreak havoc if you push the wrong Buttons.
TIRES: Tires are male, because they go bald easily and are often over inflated
HOT AIR BALLOONS: Also a male object, because to get them to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under their butt.
SPONGES: These are female, because they are soft, squeezable and retain water.
WEB PAGES:
Female, because they're constantly being looked at and frequently getting hit on.
TRAINS: Definitely male, because they always use the same old lines for picking up people.
EGG TIMERS: Egg timers are female because, over time, all the weight shifts to the bottom.
HAMMERS: Male, because in the last 5000 years, they've hardly changed at all, and are occasionally handy to have around.
THE REMOTE CONTROL: Female. Ha! You probably thought it would be male, but consider this: It easily gives a man pleasure, he'd be lost without it, and while he doesn't always know which buttons to push, he just keeps trying

Was that you Topdown i heard saying all the wrong things ? lol

Goodnight from the Emerald Sir.

Old Doll.

GUITARS: are often picked on, some are shallow, many are curvy, all have strings attached, they create harmony when treated right, the good ones improve with age. So are they male or female?

Is that badge on the cover of Neil Young's album from a real car? If so, what make?

Interesting, I thought Ronnie and the Dubliners might have been more widely known. Many German and Dutch people I know would be familiar with them but perhaps they were less well known across the Atlantic (where the Clancy Brothers for example might have been better known?)

Anyone got any links/info on his Flamenco guitar playing? Apparently this was one of his less well-known talents though he always seemed to play classical/flamenco guitars.

Saw them once in the Olympia - Ronnie at that time was singing just a few songs with them but it was a great show. They made the Stones look and sound like a schoolboy band.

One of the greats of folk music, of Irish music, in fact of music full stop, Ronnie Drew was for many THE voice of Irish music - and what a voice! He's finally sung his last on this earth and was surely the inspiration for many lash out a few ballads. Now who'll stand up and sing McAlpine's Fusiliers in his honour?

Here in Irl you can get a Fishman fitted for not much more than the price of the pickup itself. Worthwhile if the guitar is good.

Of the external types, requiring no permanent changes to the guitar (a) I've seen some serious classical guitar buskers using external stick-on type (b) The soundhole pickups e.g. Dean Markley Pro-mag (or my Artec) don't work at all with nylon strings - they detect only the vibrations of a metal string - but I like them on steel strings.

I recently tried both a classical and a steel-string (neither were very high quality guitars) on an acoustic amp and both sounded great.

I really dont want to sound sexist here at all but I do not rate any woman guitarists high in the rankings of guitar players.
Yes, there will be excellent guitar players that are female and would kick my butt and other male proffesionl players, but I just cant think of any that I would put in the top ten of guitar player be them male or female.
But I do like KT and Cheryl crow and ,, and, maybe a few others, but I would not say they were particularly excellent on guitar even though their songs might be superb.

I was talking about this subject last week in a pub and got hounded by a few females.

I couldnt name any women drummers either or bass players. PLenty of excellent singers but not musicians.
Maybe I need to be told a few names of women musicians to make me change my mind on how I think?

Sorry to the females that read this and think I am being a male sexist chauvanistic swine.
I do try to break free from this label I have given myself over the years of not thinking before I speak, lol

Ken

It's often assumed that the best guitarists will be electric players who play very technical and/or very fast fretboard shredding type of guitar  (not saying that's your assumption, upyer) but I've long since got bored of this style of music. Of the others mentioned above, I've seen videos of Kaki King play and again and her technical prowess leaves me a bit cold (though I am a fan of the Ovation guitars she uses). I'd be more interested in players with a talent for melody, harmony, improvisation, rhythm, compsition etc. In this regard I'd consider Joni Mitchell one of the best guitarists and all-round musicians in the world full stop, regardless of gender.

How do I find a public songbook once I know the name? I've created one called 'four-oh' but can't find it by searching for that name (when I access Chordie without logging in)

I can find it by selecting all song books and sorting alphabetically but not from the 'search' box.

Aye, and I get plenty miles to the gallon on it.

I may just be easily pleased, never having played a "real quality" instrument.

By the way, Ken (sorry for mementarily going off topic), The Alarm are playing 3 nights at King Tuts in November.

The Alarm? As in '68 guns'???

Artec MSP 50 is what I have and I really like it. It gets very good reviews in terms of value for money on reviews.harmony-central.com. You can install it without altering the guitar if necessary but I had to just drill one hole to install a socket.

The more ways you experience something the easier it is to remember/learn. This applies to songs, poetry, mathematical formulas, anything.

For example hear it, AND write it,  AND sing it, AND read it silently, AND read it aloud. Do each of these over and over again. The more time syou do all these things, the more it's embedded. It's the only way I've ever learned anything. Of course, our ability to do so declines with age!

Anyone got tabs for J Prine's fingerpicking patterns e.g. on Long Monday, Speed of the Sound of Loneliness, Souvenirs etc. His chords are usually not difficult but just tryijg to figure our how he incorporates melody into the picking.
