Hi Russell,
Bingo! What is this song about?
I am still not sure and will probably keep re-working the lyric. Frankly, it has already been through several versions.
This is classic case of me stumbling on a phrase (forgetful eyes) that resonates strongly in my imagination. My mind has gone off in a dozen different directions imagining what 'forgetful eyes' could be - - - and I still don't know for sure.
At one point, the song was going to be the musings of a heartless cad . . "Who is this total stranger who says she's leaving me?" At another point it was going to be a mournful contemplation of lost youth. I also took a stab at making it about a lover who has betrayed but is forgiven.
Bottom line - I still don't know what 'forgetful eyes' means and I guess it really shows in this lyric. I know it has to mean something - - - but I'm obviously not clear exactly what. Hence, the your confusion.
Sorry - now that I see it with 'fresher eyes' I am also confused as to what it's all about!
I play it in 4/4 time (but thought about waltz-time also). The chorus "Blame . . . " is a real howler. I plan on recording this cryptic little ditty soon . . . even though I shall continue to ponder a better lyrical expression of the idea.
This title phrase happened while I was working on another idea (I love when that happens).
Most excellent - great idea and you have really done it justice, Jeff!
James
Hi stryker0010 & welcome to chordie!
Lots of friendly people here to help. For some good starter songs, go the 'Public Books' and browse through the songbooks under the 'Absolute Beginner' category. Lots of goodies in there.
Also, keep in mind that chordie can transpose - so if you find something with F, C, G or with E, A, D (or any 3-chord combo) you can bump it up or down into your preferred chords. Just use the transposer gizmo on the right side of the page.
Nice to meet you, James
Hi gerrit,
Looks like you just about got it whipped. If you search chordie's 'Songs' index under "National Anthem" and also "Star Spangled Banner" you can find several tab versions that may help you complete your version.
It is a great melody - actually, it is a melody for a British drinking song popular in the late 1700's and early 1800's. "To Anacreon in Heaven" is the name of the tune. The Anacreotic Society was a gentlemen's club in London.
Hi Roger,
I think everybody has their own Secret Sauce!
However; there are a few people who's personal recipe leads to disaster.
For other's, their unique blend of ingredients leads to good things.
Personally, my blend has always kept me teetering on some edge . . .

Hi, everyone - Still looking for more comments on the proposed forum rules.
Please offer your thoughts on the list at the top of this thread.
Thanks, James
I used to joke that I would "live fast and die laughing". Of course, that was when I was much younger - now days, I'm thinking that porch swing is looking pretty cool and inviting. James
Hi Phill -
Metaphor? Metaphor?? I don't need no stinkin' metaphor!
Actually, it's just another silly phrase that stuck in my head . . .
But come to think of it, if I we were to have another child (yikes!) it would actually make a lovely name for a baby girl!
The chords are just a standard set I am in the habit of using for 12-bar blues . . . nothing too special but I like the sequence. Really, any 12-bar blues sequence would work here.
Here is another little 12-bar blues thing . . .
Everybody needs a little
Hi Doug_Smith, If this were the UN we could send peacekeepers armed with guitars and ukuleles. But it would probably be best to not send any banjos - they tend to stir up trouble! I can just see infantry platoons of acoustic folkie geezers, lightly armed recon teams of ukulele players, and armored divisions of heavy metal thrashers.
Flatpicker55 - Glad you like the list. You're right - Roger has an insightful mind.
lynxpilot - Yep, this list simply tries to encompass what we have been doing all along.
crowellb - I agree that common courtesy is the basis for good life.
topdown - give me some time and I'll turn our little rules into a singable ditty . . . "Common Sense Waltz" maybe, or "Forum Rules Blues"?
Russell - I had joked in another discussion that we needed a "Y'all Take It Outside" forum area where emotional people could go brawl in the parking lot.
Nela - Now I understand what you were saying . . . an instant message area. Interesting idea.
cameronkl7 - Yes, the common bond of Music is a wonderful thing. It brings me great personal satisfaction. However, people who hear me play and sing might disagree.
mixter102 - An instant message area might be fun - don't know how much I would use it, but might be popular with some. I know nothing of the tech involved - have to forward request to the Mighty Admin.
Keep the comments (good, bad, & ugly) coming folks, please. James
NELA, Chordie's 'Chat Corner' is the place for any topic that does not fall under the other headings. There is rarely a dull moment in the Chat Corner.
getfiddle - Songwriting gets no special privileges. If a lyric includes language that is offensive, those words should be 'bleeped' - - - ***** or something. I myself have had to do this on occasion. In fact, I removed one of my songs after it was brought to my attention that the overall subject was really not suitable for general audiences.
Arkady - I'll second what upyerkilt has stated. Initially, I was very leery of trying to come up with a list of official rules. However, after mulling it over I came to the conclusion that it would be best if there was a list "shared expectations" for all forum users.
Zurf - Good point about actions of Moderators and Administrators. We are ALL guests in this cozy little parlor. However, the Mod's and Admin's have probably been guests for longer than other users. I would rather not try to strictly define the roles of Mods and Admins. Suffice it to say that the Mods and Admins will do what they feel is best for the long-range health of the forum.
Southpaw41L - "Tact" is an important skill. Person's lacking in it often say and do things they regret.
Roger Guppy - I agree that the written word is more deliberate than spoken language. Also, the written word doesn't disappear - it stays put. These rules are not trying to put a damper on anybody's ability to communicate - rather, they simply encourage people to communicate in a polite and friendly manner.
Hi geoaguiar & thanks for your feedback.
These ideas were kicked around among the Moderators prior to being posted here.
We are trying to have a 'short but sweet' set of simple guidelines.
"Common Sense" is the key idea - creating a list of banned words would not be practical.
Rather, it makes more sense to simply ask people to use their best judgement.
If someone's best judgement is lacking - they can be warned or banned.
We have had very few problems on this forum (knock on wood).
Hopefully, a few common sense guidelines will be sufficient.
A few basic and published guidelines will help the forum continue to grow and attract members.
Please comment on the following proposed rules:
Chordpro error: The song does not contain chords. Please include at least two chords in brackets within the text, like this: [C7].
Phill, I don't know any orchestras - but if I had something like this to work with I would get to know some music majors at a local college. Often there is a somebody who aspires to being a composer.
Call any schools in your area that have a major in music - or go to some performances and chat up the faculty. James
Kenny - fun tune! If you see me on my bicycle, please give me plenty of room as you zoom past.
James
Very tough subject matter, Roger. And you have grappled with it very well. The autoharp adds a very ethereal sound to the chorus - I like it.
The Audacity software seems to be the perfect tool for somebody who loves to layer the tracks. Very haunting song and a very crisp recording. James
I read a much shorter piece about this in our morning paper. All workplace accidents are preventable and tragic. My heart goes out to this young man's kin and also to the other members of the work crew who must bear some of the blame.
You can bet that all the more experienced guys were standing well back because they know the risks. However, young men are often thoughtlessly reckless and overly anxious to prove themselves.
Hi jemas & welcome to chordie!
You can't put tabs directly into chordie's index. Chordie is search engine that finds and formats material that is already on the web someplace.
Look on the 'Resources' page at the FAQ for more info. James
Hi henny & welcome to chordie!
Sorry you are frustrated.
Perhaps your songbook is full. There is a limit of 100 items per songbook. If your book is full, simply start a new book. Go to your songbook and page and click 'add book'.
I use Safari and everything seems fine - but then again I am not the tech expert here. James
Keep at it KAP54 - and I shall too. Your poem is a great idea!
I had quit there for a while - but have had a slip.
Am sprawled all across Tobacco Road right now - but shall get back on the wagon soon.
The gum stuff is helpful but it takes real will power to kick and habit and keep it kicked.
Wish I had never started . . . .
James
Hi Robert!
I did a little do-si-do with the coding to get it to be 'all purdy like'.
This is a nice happy song - I can hear the boots clomping and see the belt buckles falshing!
I would also like to hear the artist perform.
I have tried line dancing - but am a magnificent klutz.
When I was in 7th grade and living in Indiana they had square dances in our school. This old guy and his wife would come all tricked out in their spangly cowboy gear. They had a little portable record player and a microphone.
He would do the calling and together they would teach the steps. It was fun - of course, we all thought it was sort of dorky - but I look back on it fondly now.
*Strange historical trivia - the school was named Thomas Marshall Jr. High. Marshall was a Vice President of the U.S.A. (back in the late 1800's) and he is the guy who said, "What this country needs is a good 5 cent cigar!"
James
My gusle has given me blisters.
I want to form a new band - gusle, bagpipe, and washtub bass.
What should our name be?
