It's been pretty warm here in NY, although not terribly more than usual.  The bad thing though is that it's also been aweful humid.  More than humid actually... the areas around me are considered disaster areas as many of them have flooded.  We're talking about shopping areas with water up to the tops of cars and such.  Serious flooding.  Bridges are looking like landslides and roads are completely washed out.  We've got a few hundred people that are still displaced from their homes since last Friday, and it's still raining.  My backyard has been quite wet but thankfully I live on a bit of a hill and most of the rain has been east of here.

The kids are bummed it's been too rainy to go to the beach, but thank goodness for AC!

Thanks guys!  I took a break from painting and my hands feel better.  I think I'll play my guitar tonight and get back to painting tomorrow.  smile

Zurf... I ALWAYS SING, unless of course I lose my voice.  You bet the music was cranked and I was singing along loudly while painting!

So the truth is, I haven't played my guitar much lately.  I think I got really rusty.  Then I went and started painting my kitchen including the cabinets and all... and now the muscles in my hands are soooooo sore.  On top of that, it's caused my shoulders to get all sore, pinching nerves and aggravated the little bit of carpel tunnel syndrome that I have going on as well.  Now everything is sore, feelings of numbness coming and going, hands swollen, etc... and I'm not done painting.  I picked up my guitar the other night and tried to play.  Jim said I sounded horrible.  GAHHHH!  The mind wants to do it all, the body not so much.  I am beginning to dislike my mid to late 30's.  BLESS those of you going through serious issues, this is in no way meant to undermine them... just to say, I realize what's happening here and I DISLIKE IT!  Take a break, keep on keeping on, and be glad that... um... my hands will be stronger to fret those chords better when the muscles don't hurt anymore????  In the meantime, I still have to paint the trim and then move onto the dining room as my guitar stares at me begging to be picked up but it feels like abuse every time I do.  HA!

Sorry to hear things are not moving as fast as you had hoped.  I'm sure all of us in your situation would be discouraged too NELA.  Hang in there, follow their directions, and try to keep positive thoughts.  If you think it's possible then it still IS!

Happy Father's Day all you DADS!  My own Dad is the one that got me to love a guitar in the first place, and has encouraged me to continue with it.

Sounds like a heck of a week for sure.  I think you need some serious guitar therapy.  May the rest of your week be filled with FRIDAYS!

It's still a possibility for me, though a slim one.  I'll be out of town the next weekend for a jam in West Virginia.  And I'll be in the Finger Lakes in mid-August.  So, it's darned slim.  I'd do it in a heartbeat were I a bachelor, but I'm not and my kids would get awful bored with all that car time.  To the contrary, I love long drives, especially through new country.  I've never been to the Finger Lakes, and it's been on my "want to see" list for a very, very long time.  It's also on my "want to taste" list for all the wineries.

Well, if you can't make it in July... think about coming through on your way back south after your Finger Lakes tour if it's not too far out of your way.  smile  We'd love to see you again and meet the family (wait, are you taking the kids to the Finger Lakes?  Around here, people rent limos and go for a day trip without kids).  I completely understand and agree wholeheartedly about the kids and such.  BTW - Bully Hill has a new sweet champagne that's only available at the winery.  Have FUN!

I thought the same thing.  So nice to see some good positive vibes.  For FREE, this site is pretty darn awesome and the ads aren't annoying... which is why MANY of us are here and stay and even volunteer to help out.  YAY CHORDIE!

Just bumping this back up as a reminder to those that MIGHT still be thinking about coming.

It sounds at the moment as if Jeff's the only one and that means he is going to have a HECK of a good time hanging with my family and eating tons of Dead Cow and that Venison backstrap I saved from the fall.  I have a friend planning on coming from NYC as well (she plays the Uke and Harp).  Of course, my family isn't huge but it isn't tiny either... and some nearby friends may stop as well.  Seriously, if you can make it our way, it will be a nice relaxing and yet fun backyard get together!

NICE JOB!  She's got a voice that can go far.  I'd love to really hear her range, and open up!  Thanks for sharing!

Link please?

After hearing a few of your songs in Virginia, I have no doubt that you peeked quite a bit of interest from the kids.  You are an amazing story teller and picker!

Topdown, the Margarator, aka Jeff's Birthday is today!

I can't forget his birthday because he shares the day with my Katie who is now six, as well as my nephew who is now 14.  HAPPY DAY!!!!!

Jeff, I hope you enjoy the day... and don't drink too many adult beverages wink

MeKidsGrandpa says he WILL BE THERE as well!  A little history on my dad... He still has his first guitar.  He took lessons when he was a teenager and has been strumming ever since.  He can read music, and he'll often pick out the notes just to get the feel for a song before he starts playing.  Despite all this, he's "only a strummer" however he'll come up with the coolest patterns you've ever heard.  He can play quite a bit by ear as well.  He knows a zillion folk songs, and hundreds of other more popular songs from the 50's thru the 80's.  He underwent chemo recently (beat the cancer) and has some serious nerve damage, but he's excited about the idea of guitar people getting together and is going to TRY to get his fretting hand in order.  HE is the reason I play guitar; HE is the reason I sing.  He taught me the love of music and the ability to sing does run in the family.  I remember singing along with him to Wildfire when I was about five.

If he can manage to play, even a little... everyone is in for a treat.  He's got quite a "stage presence"!  JEFF... you're gonna LOVE my Dad (if we can get Katie away from you long enough for you to enjoy yourself!  ha ha!)

There's also SongBook.  It's an app for your computer and your android device.  You would load your own songs (or copy and paste the chordpro formatting), then save and it's more like a virtual song notebook - offline.  I think there may be some songs in there avail. for download too.  I haven't used it in forever.  I do need to change to using my tablet, but at the moment I'm still working with printed songs.

Ok... I put more details up on Facebook.  If you're not my friend on there, or didn't get an invite... send me an email or something so I can get you the details.  Since it's at my house, I'm not putting the exact address up here publicly.  wink

JULY 27th is the date (and the whole weekend of course)

For those of you that fish though, it has come to my attention (thanks Zurf) that I neglected something VERY IMPORTANT.  SALMON RIVER is just a 30 minute drive from my house.  I repeat, SALMON RIVER IS CLOSE BY!  Oneida Lake is even closer, if you prefer lakes as I do.  LOL!

Here's some info on the area:

Aaaahhh!  Yeah, that's a bit much Paul!  2014 will likely be mid July if that makes any difference.  Let me know how far in advance you need to plan on tickets to get a good rate and I'll make a date!

Will MeKidsGrandpa make an appearance and play, and will Katey Bug dance?

Making it at my house so mekidsgrandpa has no excuse not to is part of my evil plan wink  No doubts that both Steph and Katiebug will be singing and dancing up a storm!

Jeff - if you come up, I'll make my son clean the teenage stink out of his room and sleep on the couch so you can have his room.  Of course, if we end up with a bunch of campers and you prefer to sleep outside, I've got all the supplies you'd need for one to two people comfortably (air mattress and all).  I considered Green Lakes as it looks like they've got a bunch of sites available still (Verona Beach sadly doesn't).  I kind of gave up on the camp search though as I'm feeling like it's not going to end up being a whole lot of folks coming that would camp and at least in my back yard we can be obnoxious, loud, and up as late as we'd like.  LOL!  With my littlest ones recent issues, I'm thinking the back yard MIGHT be the safest place for her too.  (for those unaware, she is high functioning autism but has wandered off twice last week and doesn't seem to comprehend boundries.  I can imagine her visiting some strangers tent and hiding there until someone found her).

Ok, so I'll talk with the man and find out when he's going to Michigan and we'll plan from there.

Zurf, I absolutely understand the issues with travel and taking time off from work - etc.  If you and the family can make it that would be awesome.  If you can fly up on your own and need a ride from the airport, I can drive you back and forth too (SYR is closest if that helps at all).  Anyone else that wants to come and would prefer a campground, there really are a LOT of them nearby.  The issue is that this is a  seasonal "beach resort" area.  With Oneida Lake in my "backyard" the closest tent sites fill up quickly so finding a campground with enough sites for a GROUP is tricky this late in the game.  I will plan better for 2014 for sure!

Again, all are welcome!  Location:  North Bay, NY 13123 - around the corner from Sylvan Beach NY - tiny amusement park, public beach, lake, many nearby streams, etc.  There will be a small bon fire, adult beverages, dead cow, kids playing, backyard or nearby camping, and GUITARS!!!!!!  Date TBD: around the end of July

Hit me up for more specifics and I'm not afraid of suggestions!  If a sudden influx of people begins, I may look into Green Lakes campground for a group rate.
