Our drummer is a Beatles fiend, and often notes that for as simple as some of their songs sound, they are actually quite complex both rhythmically and from a progression standpoint.

Personally, I dig those one-knob valves.  Epiphone makes a mighty little 15W amp, as does Kustom (it's a three knobber, but I don't complain.)

In the entire stack of equipment we gig with, the loudest amplifier we have is this itty bitty 12W Kustom.

That thing is pure, glorious, obnoxious.

The pickup thing is easily solved with one of about half a dozen piezo, in-hole, or under hole pup options.  I've got a Fishman in my 12 string, and other than it eating batteries like candy, it's a good pup.

When I decide it's time to spend a lot of money on a guitar, it will probably be a Taylor.  Like you said, they just sound right.  I've played the Blueridges, too, and they are sweet like sugar.

You have the kind of problem everyone wishes they had...  smile

Zepplin often made reference to Lord of the Rings and Tolkien.

Misty Mountain Hop, Battle of Evermore, Ramble On, etc..

"The pain of war cannot exceed the woe of aftermath
The drums will shake the castle wall, the Ringwraiths ride in black."

Good stuff!

Lotta bluegrass is in D as well, as that is how fiddles are tuned.  I was at a pub last night where there was a bluegrass jam circle going on.   Almost everything they played was in D.

Jesus Tony, are you ever going to stop humping my leg?  I forgotten more about football than you'll ever know, primarily because I watch the game.

Here's some more non-subjective facts about your over-rated Hokies.    Of all the ranked teams with two losses, only two of those teams have losses to non-ranked teams.   South Carolina lost to a pretty good Kentucky team and VA Tech lost to.... JAMES MADISON.  A division II school with losses to such noted powerhouses as Delaware and New Hampshire.

The rest of the two loss teams lost to a combined schedule of Auburn, Alabama, Arizona, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Florida State, LSU, Michigan State, and Iowa.  Every one a ranked team.  Meanwhile, VA beat up on Duke this week, or as we like to call their football program, "St. Mary's School for Blind Orphan Girls."

Meanwhile, out here in the Pac-10, it looks like this:

#1 Oregon
#15 Arizona
#13 Stanford
Oregon State
#24 USC
California
Washington
Arizona State
UCLA
Washington State

So, lets just take out the four ranked teams in the conference, and I'll even go so far as to ignore the fact that Oregon State was ranked until two weeks ago, when Washington beat them.  UCLA has wins over two ranked teams.  Cal lost to UCLA by one point.  Washington beat USC.   Point being, 6 of 10 teams out here are capable of beating ranked opponents, because they've done it, and two others have come dang close.

Meanwhile, in the Almost Athletic Conference, VA Tech gets a pat on the head because they score 49 on East Carolina.

So, my bet is next weeks rankings are

1. Oregon
2. Auburn
3. Boise State
4. Michigan State
5. TCU

Auburn beating a good LSU team will jump them over Boise.

Oregon plays USC next week.  The Trojans will be keyed up for that game.  Could four #1s going down in a row happen?  Why yes it could.

While not nearly as far out on the limb as you (I'm making my prediction with about five minutes left in the game smile ) I'm thinking you're right.

Three straight weeks of #1 losing.  Its the Ducks to lose at this point.

Oh it's a nail biter!

21-20 4th quarter.  That's two outstanding teams.

Keep playing.  Your fingers aren't sore, they aren't sore enough.

Building up callouses is a right of passage.  You have to be a bit of a masochist to play.

You really only need to know 5, and it's not even the chord you need to know, its the shape your hand makes.

C A G E D:  Learn those 5, and learn to play them barred, and you can play every major chord on the neck.

Then learn their minor derivatives, and you can play every minor chord on the neck.

The best way to learn them, though, is to understand how they are built.  What makes a major a major, and a minor a minor, etc...  If you know that, you won't even need a chord chart.  You can just construct them as you need.

My favorite NFL teams are the SadHawks, and whoever plays Dallas this week, so I can't believe I'm going to defend Jerry Jones.  He did bring three SuperBowl championships to the team, and thats no small feat.   He might be a bit of a git, but he knows how to put together a winning team.   The Cowboys under Jones have been consistently anywhere from a pretty good team to championship caliber.   One bad year is the anomaly.   Jone's history says if it is a bad season or two, he will get it fixed.

How did Oklahoma jump Oregon, though?

Couple easy ways to cheat on those extended chords.  Any time you see a 9, 11, or 13, you can substitute in a 7 for it.  For example, that F13 can be played as a simple F7 chord.   That should help get you by until you pick up those extended color cards.  Don't let those chords scare you, as they are just 7ths.

The other thing to do is get a really thick chord book with all kinds of variants in it.  You'll find that you can probably play a lot of those progressions without moving your hand around a lot.   This not only makes it easier to play, but makes it look like you're a serious dude, too.   Guys like Bill Frisel and Pat Metheney do the most amazing things, but it hardly looks like they're moving their hands at all.

So who is your team ?

Don't be "sceered"...... ( that's our backwoods, hillbilly, ACC lingo for "scared" )

If one is gonna dish it out one must be willing to clean a dirty plate as well.....

Fess up or shut up. (:~l)

From the homer perspective, the Huskies. I'm not claiming them to be any kind of great team, like the VT crowd does.   Playing in the PAC-10 is hard enough as it is.     Few teams ever go undefeated in the PAC-10 during regular season play.  The conference schedule is too tough.   Unlike the ACC where teams are over rated (see Tech, Virginia) even a bad PAC-10 team can beat you on any given Saturday.  See a young Washington team taking down USC last week.   Ooops.

From a who I'm pulling for this year, Oregon.   Ohio State has a brutal schedule coming up.   Oregon's isn't much easier, but if they can win over USC and Arizona, there's no reason they shouldn't play in the championship game.  I don't see Alabama getting beat.

And none of that changes the fact that VA Tech is one of the most consistently over rated teams in the NCAA.

So let's get this straight; You like Washington but you "pull" for Oregon......????..uhhmm until another wacko team is the front runner ( exclude Ohio State and Alabama) then THAT team will be the one you "pull" for ? .... Dude you're not a football fan,you're an instigator of conflict.

That about sums it up.  Washington is the home town team.  They've struggled over the last couple of seasons, and aren't going to be competitive at a championship level for at least another two.  They could still beat half the teams in the ACC pretty much any time, though (James Madison!  Ha!).   But as a fan of PAC-10 football, Oregon is the best chance to take another national title (bringing the PAC-10 percentage to 60%).   I pull for the PAC-10 team over whatever opponent  they play.

The difference is I don't pretend that a bad Washington team is anything other than bad, just like I don't pretend that an over rated VA Tech team is anything other than over rated.  That is born out by their record against ranked teams, and their generally weak strength of schedule, due to playing in a generally weak league.

I know that you, not really knowing much about football, can't disambiguate your fandom from reality, but that's common amongst fair weather fans.  My team is #1!!!  Lawlz!

I don't fault you for it.  It's kind of quaint.

Which is the top all-time NCAA college football national championship conference?

Listed below is the order of conferences from 1936 to present with the number of college football national championships in parentheses.

    * SEC -- (17)

    * Big 12 – (16)

    * Big Ten -- (13)

    * ACC -- (9)

    * Pac-10 -- (4)

    * Big East -- (3)

Looks like the ACC has won 9 to the mighty PAC 10's 4. The bottom 4 of the PAC 10 is like a group of Duke's - I'd love to play in that conference.

I'm not sure where you got your PAC-10 numbers, but five teams in the PAC-10 have held titles in that time frame.  Washington, USC, UCLA, Cal, and Stanford.

If you subtract out Miami and Florida State, which didn't join the ACC until recently, that number drops to somewhere around 2 ACC teams ever holding a national title.  Georgia Tech and Clemson.

That VA Tech left the Big East (a.k.a.  The Big Least) to join the ACC, and considered it a step up highlights my point even more.  They went from beating football juggernauts like Cincinnati and UConn to Duke and NC State.
