Well, since you mentioned it, I'll comment on that "upbeat and positive" attitude we try to have, keepitreal (I think your name is Brian, but I'm not sure I'm remembering correctly).

When this whole thing with the heart began months ago, I kept thinking "they're gonna fix this", never once imagining that it would take such a long time for them to finally put in a pacemaker or that she would take a turn for the worse so many times (14 hospital admissions in one month's time - one of them lasting 20 days) or that she would wind up having a stroke.

While all of that was going on and I was keeping y'all updated with all the changes, I couldn't help but think, "What must the Chordians be thinking???? No one's luck is that bad!"

So after the pacemaker was put in and the stroke happened, I honestly didn't know what else to say to you, my friends, so I took some time off from posting here and stayed awake at night for about a week so I'd be sure to be at her bedside if she had another, worse CVA (cardiovascular accident - otherwise known as a stroke).

Luckily she did not and has not (so far), but I'm wary that it may happen again and she and I are all each other has. Again, luckily my physical health is good (although I still have the dementia stage 4) and I can help her get around if she needs it.

But yeah, we've tried our best to think positive and be upbeat, Dondra being better at it than I am. She rarely complains and is secure in the peace her religion gives her.  She will also downplay her illness when family calls - that's the way she is

Yes, we've been very unlucky these last 6 months, but we've both been "through the wringer" so many times now, nothing surprises us anymore.

I've never been what you'd call "religious" (spiritual, maybe), but lately I've begun to pray very hard for her to get better, and there you have it: A bird's eye view of what goes on at Casa Craig.

After the holidays there will be another adjustment to the pacemaker. Right now it's just managing the atria of the heart - keeping its beat regular at 70 bpm. She does however still have the atrial fibrillation so the adjustment to be made will include the ventricles. What that means is that she will be totally dependent on the pacemaker to keep her heart going: something else to get used to, but hopefully she will have a better quality of life when that happens.

Yeah, people really can be this unlucky, but what's it gonna help to mope around? Nothing, right?

Thanks so much everyone! We love you!

Bill

Please excuse my absence, but I have been rather busy of late taking care of Dondra who has now suffered a stroke.

The correct term is "Evolving Stroke" which means just that: there may be another, more serious one coming. I watch her closely and do what are known as "neurochecks". I get her to smile - making sure the smile is even, get her to lift both arms simultaneously, and other stuff. The stroke affected her eyesight at first (and still does to some degree) then her speech, but those are now mostly resolved.

Roger, she thanks you very much for your phone call to check on her and she was happy to hear your friendly voice.

I also have not forgotten what my Chordie friends have done for us to make her feel better and I know I promised a Thanksgiving poster with a Thanksgiving card and all the names I could remember. If I forgot someone, please know it wasn't intentional and we are both very grateful - if a little "knackered" from all the Home Health Nurses and Physical Therapists who come 3 times a week.

I don't know if this will show correctly, so if it doesn't may I ask one of the mods/admins to fix it, please?

I am sorry this is so late......

Bill

PS: If y'all don't hear from me for a few days, just know it's because I am taking care of my wife and not because I don't want to interact with you, okay?

Wow! Agree with Jandle and bluejeep and the others: this one really tells the story of their lives for those who never knew them, beestie and I wouldn't change a thing. I especially liked how you led up to the ending; him sitting beside the bed - waiting.

I while back I wrote a song called "Broken Cover" whose title came from a misunderstanding of a song called "Broken", a cover of which was done by our friend Grah1.

I wrote my interpretation as told by a 15 year old who had been enamored of a girl 2 years older than he, and who needed to let her know. He needed to "break his cover".

Phill kindly put the tune to music and what you're about to click on is the result.

I couldn't be happier with his interpretation, y'all! It has all the ingredients needed for a rocker and the voice is spot on.

Thanks, Phill for taking the time and for your talents.

Totally AWESOME!

Just saw this image. You make your own spherical ice for your bourbon, at home? I like your style, Dude.

On Amazon, I think it is, they sell spherical ice trays in the shape of the Star Wars Death Star. Don't have one myself, but they look very cool.

Our friend Bax recommends a drop of Super Glue on the fingertips to help? Have you tried this, Top?

Albert Collins! Yeah! Thanks, Mr. Badeye.

Can I share one? This is Jimi Hendrix with the band Curtis Knight and The Squires playing "Gloomy Monday". Album is called "You Can't Use My Name". Hear any of Mr. Hendrix's "later stuff's" influencing this tune?

You must have the deluxe version of Volume Three, then Phill. I looked for just the DVD on Amazon and the one I found is way out of my budget and it was the only one. smile

I'm sorry, but I lost the other thread where someone wanted to know my opinion of this one. YES!!! By all means, get it! Not a bad song on the whole cd, plus a couple of extras. Couple of sad ones as well.

To quote the above key:

"+ means, the next measure ... means, sustained note

40x/ 433/ 322/ 30x".

I get it all except the 0 after the 4 (and the 3) and then the small x after the 0 (after the 3). One of those means play the string "open" right?

Sorry, I know my question sounds dumb, but that's me: dumb. smile

Thanks

I've been practicing this on my Strat and one thing it's taught me is I'm not practicing enough. smile I need to build those callouses back up, Bax!

Thanks for your time and sharing your expertise with us!

Bill

PS: I also have a bad need to learn the notes on the fret board. It's tougher for me because of the dementia, but I know it's the root of everything that is guitar. I tried those little stickers, but they don't stay on. What about flash cards/any other suggestions you may have?

Thanks, Bryan. Whatever you and the others can put together would be most appreciated. I was thinking of it as more of a rocker (to quote "The Gray One"), but you guys are better at this stuff than I have ever been. I just keep the beat and strum rhythm every now and then.

That and be a fan of yours and everyone else here who has the talent to pull out the memories and tear at the heart-strings! smile

AH! Caught it. Notes left for you on the Cloud, my friend. Wonderful tune and as I wrote in the comments: "Bitter" indeed.

Autobiographical? If so, I hope the hurtful _____ gets to hear it and even better, gets it. wink

Still haven't had time to work on this one. Those of you who know me and my recent problems will know why, but I could sure still use some help. The chords can be as simple as EAD (and yes, even the dreaded Bflat).

As stated earlier it's based on Graham's titel of a song he covered by our mazzie called "Broken" - a fine tune in its own right. Anyway, he referred to it as as "Broken" Cover. Hence the title to this little tune about a 15 year-old (me) and his 17 year-old (unrequited?) love: "Broken Cover".

I'm just so buzzed about this one because it's the first poem/tune/lyrics I have ever really finished* and I'm giving all the credit to my chordie friends for their encouragement.

It was all done in one night, as well.

Thanks for any help!

Bill

PS: With the exception of "If Sunshine Were Mine......", which I suppose we can call "finished" by me, but there were so many of you who added to it which made it even better, so I'm not taking all the credit - we're sharing it: Comprende? wink

"Super Dave Osborne"? I never even watched his show. I don't know why, exactly, TF; maybe it was that outfit of his. I just always thought "Who is this guy???". To see he appreciates Ms. Liona Boyd as we do, came as a shock to me.

Such a shock, in fact, that I'll see if I can find out some more on "Super Dave".

Glad you enjoyed the two versions of La Malaguena. I had been looking for a guitarist to represent the ladies when I thought of her. The Maestro, of course, needed no introduction. I just feel bad for those folks who thought "Light My Fire" and "Feliz Navidad" were all of his repertoire.

Thanks for the compliment!

American Thanksgiving is coming up in a couple of weeks and we both already know to whom we are grateful. Other than "The Big Guy", there's you, our dear friends, so what we'd like to do is get some poster paper and make a Thanksgiving Card to all of you, have me make a picture and post it here. I am currently hard at work gathering all of your names and I hope so much I don't forget anyone.

So how about this: I make a list, and if someone notices someone not on it, please let me know privately and I will fix it.

We are so grateful to all of you and we want to do this little thing to show how thankful we are that there's all of you who stood and are standing by us.

We love you!

I love it and it reached me where it needed to, because I've been there such a long time ago.

I use this quote (Kris Kristofferson's) whenever a song and lyrics touch my heart and almost make me rain a little: "This guy's been readin' my mail".

I use it here as a compliment to you, Gilliam.

Notes also left on YT.

All the best!
