JEFF
i have played this through a few times - it has the making of a really fine country song - at least how that's how I play it.
It flows really nice and the lyric is top notch!
Well done
Can't wait tohear your version to see if it is similar to how I am playing it, but obviously better bc I can't play too well or sing a bit.
Thanks also for the keen insight to bridge how weather can be impactful on one's mindset.
Cool song man !

Sara is awesome
that cover of Dock of the bay is fantastic !
That led me to watch about 5 other videos of her. She is awesome.
Elton John said her cover of Yellow brick road was the best he had ever heard.

being on a stage with a mic stuck in my face, a PA blaring and being expected to "entertain" a crowd is not an enjoyable experience for me.

If I could sing and play - and the people actually liked it - I would probably retire tomorrow
As a teacher and a coach I'm on stage pretty much every day - But istill would love to be able to get on stage and perform.
You folks are blessed with a special talent I will never have - enjoy it!

That is a very nice song - first I had ever listened to it.
My family has roots from Scotland - so today I asked him if he ever herd of it - he says oh yeah - our grampa used to sing it all the time.
I never knew that.

Thanks for the kind words of support.
CTECH -as you can now see I just had to go back and put chorus differently - it was just bothering me. I'm not sure it made it better - but just sits better with me.
I appreciate both comments a lot. Have a safe and Happy New Year.
Jim
P.S. sorry it's such a "downer" of a song to end 2018 ! May better and wondererous things to come in 2019 !!!

detoxing from playing music ?
If so - it must be catching - I have been less than motivated this past week --- just hanging out with my fam and not missing the guitar at all.
Happy New Year !

Re: The Buddy Holly Story (3 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Bill
That was interesting.
I am not convinced it is accurate however.
Listen to the Tommy Allsup interview and the Waylon Jennings interview -
Not at all the same version as Dion's.
I think as I listen to Dion's production, - it seemed to me to be more about him than the depiction of the events.
Some really cool inside information though - I appreciate the link - I watched the entire thing.
The winter there must have been brutal -25 degrees on a bus !
I was able to visit the Norm Petty Studio last year in Clovis New Mexico - actually sat in Buddy Holly's studio chair and held his Strat! ( I have pics if your are interested)
I also was privileged enough to meet and spend an hour talking with David Bingham - who was a back up singer for Holly on all of his early productions ( group was the Roses)
He was the coolest old guy- told me a bunch of really interesting and personal stories. He said when they would drive with Buddy from Lubbock,Texas to Clovis, they would go as fast as they could - always trying to get there before they left. The reason was the time zone change - if they could get there in less than an hour - mission accomplished.
anyway - very good post - Thanks my friend
Jim

Re: Christmas comes but once a year (12 replies, posted in Songwriting)
I re-wrote some of the lyric - toned done the religious component a bit - I think its a little more amicable.
Changed a few of the chords and re-phrased the fit of some of the lyrics.
I like it a lot better
