I made a record once - you know the good kind with the hole in the middle.
It was titled, "Our Cow Wouldn't Give Us Any Milk So We Sold Him".

I took a parachute rigger course in the Marine Corps. At the completion of the course they had us pack three chutes. They chose the worst looking one of the three and had us jump with it.
Mine opened nicely.

Our version of "Little Drummer Boy".
Casey is wearing a Soviet Army uniform top and a hat my sister-in-law found at a rummage sale.
My hat is a souvenier from a trip to Holland.
Merry Christmas to you all.

My relatives are flying in from icy Nebraska, tomorrow to vacation with us. after rain and 40's and 50's it is sunny and 70's today in Alabamy. I just took a motorcycle ride in shirtsleeves down to the Bon Secour River and back.
Rain tomorrow but we pray it gets back this warm again so I can take our guests sailing out on Mobile Bay.
They call moonshine "shinny" around here. My father-in-law drank the stuff before it killed him. He used to tell us that if you shake the bottle and bubbles form around the top at the bottle neck, you got the "good stuff".

Re: Looking for a Jerry Reed tune (2 replies, posted in Song requests)
Hey, RC,
Intro goes, G,F,C,G - twice.
First verse G,E minor,A,D - twice
Bridge? E minor,D,C,A,D
Next verse, solo and following verse, same as first verse.
Another bridge chords same as first.
From there you play G, E minor, A, D, and G to the end.
Here's the U-Tube link:

Sure wish I could play lead like Jerry Reed - his harmonica guy ain't no slouch either.

Re: Looking for dance songs suggestions (2 replies, posted in Song requests)
I do a medely of "Shake it up Baby" and "La Bamba". Both songs are in A,D and E, high energy and easy to change back and forth from one song to the other.
I do "Johnny be Goode" Chuck Berry style (in "A") for two verses and choruses and then switch to reggae rhythm for the last verse and chorus (D minor and C). Catchy!
Funny songs help if you work alone. Check out Robert Earl Keen, Pat Dailey, Rodney Carrington etc.. for good material.

Re: GUITAR BODY SHAPE (13 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I have a slim hollowbody 1960 Gibson ES330 that has enough sound to practice without an amp. The female shape is most comfortable when I have to play for a long while. It is my axe for life.
My mid-70's Yamaha dreadnought acoustic is comfortable to play while sitting. The big body rests comfortably on either knee.
I finally got used to holding my skinny Martin Backpacker down with my right wrist and forearm so it won't rotate on me. It has a full neck so I can play most anything I do on any guitar. It has good volume despite the odd uke sound and is easy to travel with.

Re: how important is a good mic (11 replies, posted in Recording)
Hi,Tony,
The SM58 is a fine mic for general use. The Rolling Stones and many other top groups use them. I own 3.
I use a Shure SM-57 to mic my tuba. At the recording studio, their high dollar mics picked up too much air wheezing and valve clanking when recording my old 1940 tuba. I used my SM57 and got the nice warm sound without the distracting wheezes and clanks. Shure SM58's cost about $100 U.S. in the Musician's Friend online catalogue.

Re: My dog hates Opera (10 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I sailed for two weeks with a neurosurgeon who's golden labrador came to love my guitar playing. That big dog would hop up on the seat next to me and keep snuggling up closer untill he jammed my right elbow in so tight to the guitar I could no longer play. I had to slide to my left to continue but sure enough, two or three songs later he was jam up again. I wonder if it was my playing or the hamburgers on my breath.

Re: yamaki acoustic guitars (1 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Hi, white rhino,
I bought a mid 70's Yamaha FG 350W acoustic dreadnought guitar at a pawn shop in the late 80's for $185. This is not a pricey guitar being worth about $300 these days but the tone and bass response are priceless.
I had it set up by Jim Ball at Picker's Paradise in Stapleton, Alabama and he got it so right. The big sound and sweet low action had two recording artists borrow it from me to record in the studio.
I like the neck, the flower inlaid pick guard and the way it holds a tune. I had a pickup glued inside under the bridge that sounded mighty fine. I played it in a local night club when a customer insisted I perform with his new Martin. The Martin was heavy and had one string that rung out louder than the rest. He was hurt when I handed his Martin back but I liked the action and sound of my Yamaha better by a mile.

Re: Thanksgiving Eve (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Dear mekidsmom, I completely agree with you regarding keeping it simple and just playing the darn song without doing the one man band thing.
Around a campfire or a living room pickers circle, one voice and one guitar is the best for me.
However when the crowd exceeds 12 or so and the loud talking begins, the entertainer is forced to back up to a stage and use amplification.
Once you bring in the electronics, the loss of intimacy tempts us to compensate by using loopers, backing tracks and sadly, waay too much volume. This can be overdone and empty a room fast. A tasteful performance can light 'em up and even get them dancing.
One can only hope that investing in all that expensive equipment really helps the player to achieve his dreams and add to the entertainment.

Dear Ms. Lena, that was a corker.

It's tires were hung on the wallboards with care.
In hopes the Saint Nicholas would fill them with air.
