Okay, let's first of all "shoot down" the "live" thing. smile

Doing this live would be impossible and I think I mentioned the time zone differences so logistically that's a bad idea.

What I wanted to do (and which I think may be possible) is pick several of your performances and link to them from here on Chordie throughout the night beginning at about 8 pm New Year's Eve. That way, any of you who will be at home can "tune in" to my posts here and listen/watch yourselves through the links I will post.

Also, (and this idea just occurred to me) if any of you don't want to participate, you can let me know with a pm, I'll  make a note and the vid won't ever show.

Since I'm willing to work around the time difference, I can manage to be "present" at both times (8 to midnight) being that I have LOTS of time on my hands wink, but I do understand what you mean, Phill and fellow Chordians.

In addition, since we aren't going to be "live", I like the term Visit a lot, Amy.

So...... as the "visit" will be coming from "Casa Craig", no one needs to worry about Skype or any kind of Voip at all.

Keeping in mind my state of mind, does this make any better sense? smile

Thanks

Bill

Edited To Add: Y'all can also pick your own personal favorites from your own performances if you think any of the others aren't what you'd want the others to see. Key words: "You" and "Your". smile

I alluded to this earlier in the week and since Dondra and I will be keeping the home fires burning, we thought it would be great if those of you who don't already have other plans, would join us in seeing in the New Year.

Yeah, we already know about the time zone difference, but the only way it would be an obstacle is if we let it be one. We can have TWO/Three New Year's Eve "Seeings-In". One for our brothers and sisters in "Down Under" and one/two for us here in the US.

The aformentioned entertainment will be by us, played as YouTube/SoundCloud/Stage downloads by one of our Admins and featuring whatever y'all think is your personal best - maybe pick out up to 5 songs, interspersed with  pics of us having a good time at home with our significant others.

I'll leave the rest of the logistics up to those smarter than me, okay?

If it's a good idea, let's make it better; if it's a bad one y'all won't hurt my feelings one bit - She Who Must Be Obeyed and I will party anyway and play The Chordians' music anyway.

It's 4 days away, so hopefully we didn't throw too much at y'all at one time. Just let me know. The "Family" has been more than just instrumental (;)) in the past year helping us with your support, so we thought this might be a great way to reciprocate.

We send our love as always,

Bill and [b[Dondra

Jim,

I wrote you some notes on the Cloud, but wanted to let you know my thoughts here as well.

I love the song and the way you styled it very much. It's the kind of song I can imagine you doing at family Christmas Get Togethers and even have the kids sing it along with you (pass around the lyrics on paper). You managed to tell a very complex "story" in a way even kids can understand (well, those 8 and over, anyway) and the music fits the words just right.

I'd like it if you'd consider doing it this year (if it's not hurrying you) and just pass it down as a family "heirloom" -- it's that good and that meaningful.

On a side note, I think many of us here on Chordie write and perform some very interesting songs and poems which deserve to be remembered not only by your friends here and other  friends but by your children and grandchildren as well. However, we don't always look at what we create as something "special" or we're our own worst critic.

So make yourselves your own dvd/cd with what you consider your best stuff and leave it for the family to remember you by - musically. We're all musicians and we're all proud of what we do, so let's leave some music and words behind. Who knows? Maybe you'll be the next Van Gogh or Beethoven: appreciated more after you've left the planet. smile

That last was "tongue in cheek" of course, but please think about it, okay?

....... to say the least and before it's over, I want to thank ALL my Chordie friends for helping us through it! All of you went far above the "call of duty" with your care,  concerns and songs for Dondra, and I don't know what I would have done without you: My Friends.

Dondra and I were talking today and since we can't go out for my birthday (New Year's Eve), we're going to have our own "mini-concert" here featuring all of your performances and we'll have our own little "Pub" atmosphere. I have the song list prepared and we're gonna start with a cake and then your music.

It goes without saying that I think the world of all of you and I'm so happy that I have this internet "home" where I'm always welcome.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and send our love and best wishes for the new year.

YES! I love this one, with fine work all around by the boys - with some especially fine work from the rhythm section!

I agree that the band seems to be having great fun with this tune, as it gives every member of the band their chance to shine as is evidenced by the smiles, and - again - that fine ensemble and solo work.

Thanks for adding the protrait(s) of Master Tull and the seed drill, TF, though I did have to take a second look at that finger on his right hand. wink

Excellent choice, my friend, and thoroughly enjoyable!

Nothing like the trusty 12 bars when you need to tell a "story", right, my friend? smile

This is another one of those songs which make me say, "He's been readin' my mail", because almost all the verses in it made me nod and shake my head "uh-huh" accompanied with a wry grin.

We had one of those "bums" and although he wasn't a drummer, he was our fantastic lead guitarist and many's the time we had to bond him out of jail when we needed him for a gig. He had a drinking problem and the more he drank the better he got - did you have one of those?

Anyway, luckily our lead singer happened to be a Deputy Sheriff, so it was no problem getting him out long enough to play, then put him right back. One night, he went to what he thought was a partial glass of whiskey left behind undrunk which he proceeded to drink down - cigarette butts and all. He got sick all over my drums.

So yeah, your song hits home pretty well for me my friend. More comments left for you on the Cloud.

Thanks, Phill! smile

Jim, if you don't mind me making a suggestion? This sounds like one of those "talking" songs while the guitar plays those chords. Maybe call it, "The Christmas Dinner Talkin' Blues"?

Anyway, I LOVED reading it and like TF]/b] and Phill, thought it might be funny all the way through, but you brought the "message" home my friend. Nice going!

I agree and would love to hear you do it in a song, TF. And yes, altogether too true. I saw a car ad where the car had a big bow on it as if it were a Christmas present. Of course the significant other loved it and cooed over it, and the gifter smiled as if he had done something wonderful, but I have mixed emotions about that, but can't "place" my feelings. I have done it before, and it made me feel good inside to watch her opening her presents, but what have I really done? The feeling was fleeting.

Please, if you will, favor us with this poem/song, TF. It's very meaningful.

Here Bill is a song for you to play to Dondra. It is really from a daughter to her mother but the chorus is very apt for you:

I played it for myself and Dondra, Roger and we both loved the singing AND the lyrics! I agree Amy Sky is a wonderful singer and we loved the sentiment contained in the lyrics. Thanks very much indeed for thinking of us! We are very fortunate to have great friends such as yourself and the other Chordians and we know to appreciate it very much.

Thanks again from your friends

Thank you, Amy and Zurf.

Just a quick update, Dondra wanted me to take her to breakfast this morning and being unable to tell her "no". I took her. Well, then she wanted to go other places and her strength left her and I had to get her home.

What did I learn from this? Sometimes, if you love 'em you gotta say "no, honey, not today".

She sends her love as do I.

Thanks

Note left for both of you on SoundCloud, but I have to say this song is very touching and says a lot of things we all feel but don't necessarily talk about. I love the words, Jim and the music just makes it that much better. As I said in the note, it's very worthy of airplay and sounds like you might hear it on the radio.

Phill and Tig, you're both a TREASURE. smile

The reason I like this one is because often the layperson doesn't realize how much practice it takes to "be together" on any song. Here you have a perfect example of a band at work. smile

Well, this is me the day I got my Rogue Beatle Bass. Notice no cable to amp, but I was so excited I couldn't wait. The shirt is one I saw Don McLean wear on one of the videos we have and yeah, I also forgot to put on my boots. smile
