I pinky anchor. When you play your scales don't just play 123456787654321.
also try these
13243546578 and backward
1425364758697(11) and backward
15263748 and backward
123234345456567678 and backward
12342345345645675678 and backward
1234523456345674567856789 and backward
etc
also practice arpeggios.
you should do a "when to not use a power chord" lol.
Thin instrumentation also calls for bigger chords. I can get away with lots of power chords in a 5 piece, but the three piece I'm in requires greater density.
Interesting input. I must be getting crotchety.
Without commenting specifically on any political or spiritual ideology, do you find that your ability to enjoy a band depends upon whether or not their belief system(s) jive with yours? Careful with examples please as we don't want to wander into prohibited topics territory, but I've found that now that I'm an old man, I just can't seem to sing along with tunes any more if I don't agree with the message contained therein. Thought?
This is the only forum I've ever been in that seems to either not attract or not support troll wankers too. I love that.
Aww thanks buddy. For all y'all who are curious, here is BGD's "when to play a power chord" top 5 list:
1. Are you playing hard rock or metal? If yes, play a power chord.
2. Are you familiar with the chord?
If Yes: Play the chord as written, lazy!
If No: does the chord have a "b5" or "aug" in it? If "no," play a power chord. If "yes," grab a beer and wink at the blonde in the front row.
3. Is the other guitar player wildly out of tune? If yes, play a power chord.
4. Do you want to hit a chord Townsend windmill style? If yes, play a power chord.
and finally....
5. Are you still having problems with that dang "B" chord? If yes, play a power chord.
my buddy steve runs a free website for jazz piano. freejazzlessons.com is the site.
Roger Guppy wrote:I like anything from classical to metal. I only have two types of music I do not like opera and rap (I normally spell it with a capital 'C').

Copera?
I know the transcription you're talking about. That version kinda sucks in my opinion. The tune is really just an Am7 chord in the first part with the bass line walking A, E, G. My opinion anyway. Here's my crack at it from a few months ago. FFWD to .50 to get past all the canine nonsense...

If you are using it to walk to or from A, and not sitting on it, you can play this:
5
5
x
x
4
x
or
0
5
6
x
4
x
Which version are you playing? It's important to get the chord voicings right in this tune. Link here to what you're working with and I'll try to help.
I'm a perfectionist and have avoided recording anything lately because I'm super self critical. To fix this I've started to record (and post) my first takes of songs, knowing that they aren't going to be perfect. So once I've learned them, I hit record and see what happens. Hence several finger placement errors. I digress....
Here are my first two attempts:
Cabin By The Sea (Dirty Heads): https://soundcloud.com/joe-lilly/cabin- … a-take-one
Flake (Jack Johnson): https://soundcloud.com/joe-lilly/flake-one-take
Blues rock IMO. If I remember it's a minor pent/blues scale/dorian sort of thing. But who cares what ya call it so long as ya like it?
I've always thought food-based nicknames are cool. I'm thinking about going to Joey Cheese Sticks.
I have a friend who plays blues. His name is Dave "Biscuit" Miller.
Jeez. I'm sorry. What's that from?
125 for filing and crowning?
I've found lots of guitars are sold with crappy fret work. I just had to have a nearly brand new GibsonES335 crowned due to the fact that it came from the factory in bad condition...and that was a $2k guitar.
What's different about them?
I used to put it stage left and stand stage right, angling it ever so slightly toward me. You don't want it in front of the singer. Your ability to monitor sound will suck.
Best way to eliminate feedback is to turn it down.
here are search results on your query from Google. Looks like quite a few results!

Have you found chords for it yet?
Yeah and tix are like $700 here in Vegas. Screw that!
Loosen the strings. The altitude can make 'em snap. I usually also pack the hard shell case with my clean undies and socks for the trip, just to make sure that little fella can't move around too much during transport.
Yeah...that whole thing is just a minor pentatonic riff after another. You'll get a lot of use out of Beamer's suggestion!
