The best thing you can do with your life is abandon TV.  I've never owned one that a woman didn't make me buy, and I've lived happily without one for over five years.

Take it back and get some more guitars.

Barre all the way across the 2nd fret and then fret C on the 4th string for D13, or just fret across the entire board at the 2nd fret for Dmaj13.

It will look like this.

5222.  That will give you C D F# B, which is D13,

or

2222 which is A D F# B which is D maj 13.

I have no negative connotation for the guitar.   They're nice instruments.  I'm just amazed at their owners.  smile

I'm a Taylor guy myself.

I work a major bluegrass festival every year and handle hundreds of guitars over the course of the weekend.  No one except Martin owners bother to tell us what brand it is.  It's pervasive to the point that "The guy with the Martin in the black case" has become a running joke with my team.

Martins are the Harley Davidson's of guitars.  smile

I downloaded a song sheet editor a while back, and it came with about 100 different example songs, all of them worship songs.

http://tenbyten.com/software/songsgen/index.php

The software is pretty good.  You will enjoy the collection of example songs, too.

Edited:

Just wanted to add that the good folks that provide this software have put their entire collection of songs online, too.

Enjoy!

I got a call from a friend that knew I was working on a project. He said "Hey, we're playing at this bar and the other band just bailed on us.  Can you guys come in and do a set?"

So we did.  When we were done, the manager signed us up for three more slots.

I'm with ya Jerome. I wanted to expose my 7 yr old son to some of my music. It's really hard to find classic rock that is ok for children to listen to. I did it, but it took alot of lyric reading to pull it off.

I mentioned my 7 yr old, like Zurf's kids he like Phineas, Planet Sheen(which is really hilarious for adults too), Avatar, stuff like that. I that the almighty Lord above that he never got into Oobi or Yo Gabba Gabba( he does actually watch this some times). If you've ever seen these 2 shoes you know what I'm talking about. The worst shows ever put on the air.

I don't think classic rock is too bad.   When they do talk about sex, they're at least a bit more subtle about it.

Compare

"Let me stand next to your fire"  or "...really love your peaches want to shake your tree..."  with "first Imma disrobe ya, then Imma probe ya."

The first two leave a lot to the imagination.  The last really doesn't.

Our pastor called them 'smut coms'.  Given how much sex is suggested and talked about, I'd have to say that's about right.

So my 11 year old likes a particuar radio station, where they play top 40. It's mostly crap.  So when she's listening to it, I generally tune out and don't pay attention.  Yesterday, the soon-to-be-Mrs is listening, and she says "Do you think that's appropriate?"   I had no idea what she meant.  So I started listening to the lyrics, and frankly, I was pretty shocked at the explicitness of it.   "Chains and whips excite me?"  "I'mma disrobe you, then Imma probe you?"    It went on and on.  I changed the channel, and now I have to actually listen to that stuff before I let her turn it on.

It's a sad day when the *radio* is too explicit for kids, but now I'm an old fuddy duddy.  Bound to happen, I guess.

Disney shows.  I can't stand them.  They are all about the following.

Unsupervised children that are/trying to be/used to be a rock star/actor/celebrity that get over on simpleton adults.

The only message coming out of Disney these days is that being on television is the only worthwhile goal, and your parents are unnecessary.

Frankly, I think they aught to put violence back in cartoons.

And for the record, I'd like to put his head on a pike on the Whitehouse lawn.  This man had no dignity, and deserves none.

I don't watch TV. The last show I really got hooked on was the new Battle Star Galactica mini-series in 2003.  I did see the "Walking Dead" show, and that was phenomenal, so I may watch that.

Hah! I always thought he was a robot right up until he died.

Anyway, the dude did some amazing stuff.  He spent a lot of time in India, and fused Carnatic and western diatonic music.  Quite awseome stuff.

This is him with Jonas Hellborg (a monster in his own right) and the Vinayakram Brothers in Paris.  This DVD was my introduction to him.  I was laying in bed thinking "this guy is pretty good."  Then he did that thing with his left hand and I had to rewind it a couple of times.

I love it when a dude "goes somewhere else" when he plays. Shawn Lane was born somewhere else, and still managed to find new places to go.

This is another one I love.  Check out the bass Hellborg is playing.  The fretboard on that thing is wide enough to land aircraft on.

Shawn Lane. Dude was freaky fast when he wanted to be, but still highly melodic.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Skk9Q0Qd_k

His comments at the end about "picking every note" are awesomely naive in that "I don't really understand how phenomenal I am" sort of way.

I hit switch when I played baseball, but am right handed generally.  What hand do you write with?

Excellent beginner music theory there!

To explain how to read these chord charts (which I'm guessing is what you're trying to do?)  Here's an example:

http://www.chordimages.com/ramimages/i5 … 2220_1.png
This is an A chord and the image represents the neck of the guitar.  The top most horizontal line is the nut, the next one is the first fret, the one below that is the second fret (which is where your fingers are going to be for this chord).  The vertical lines indicate the strings on your guitar.  The one on the far left is your Low E string (the lowest sound, thickest string) and the vertical line on the far right is your High E string (the highest sound, thinnest string).  The X on the top indicates that you do NOT play that string when you strum out this chord.  The 0 on the top indicates that you do not fret that string at all.

In tab, the A chord would look like this:
|----0----|
|----2----|  T
|----2----|  A
|----2----|  B
|---------|

or there might be an X on the last line (low E string is not played)

here's a quick lesson on this particular chord:  http://justinguitar.com/en/BC-112-A-chord.php

So... Chords along with their diagrams are also very similar to tab, it represents the strings on the guitar and "shows" you where to put your fingers ... if you don't have the diagram, then you'll want to use that chart Jerome linked to as a reference to look up those chords you need!  smile  Have fun!

I was taught that the low E was played. Are there two ways of playing the A chord?

There's dozens of ways to play  an A chord.   A major is A  C#   E.  Any time you can find those three notes on the fretboard, you're playing A.

You can play the bottom E string if you want, but you don't have to.   Technically, this would result in an "inversion" of the chord, but unless you're playing keyboard or are really into ensuring you're playing the chords according to Hoyle,  it won't make all that much difference.
