There's a herding school around here. She's more in to frisbees and bite toys though. I think I might play around with some protection work with her.

Yeah she's a smart one.  My other love outside music is dog training.  This one is Easily the smartest dog I've ever met.

I generally give preference to A barre at the 5th fret rather than open A. I think the open A sounds weak.

76??? You seem so much younger. smile

I have a rule of never playing with my truss rod without the help of a tech, so I can't give much input on that, but I will tell you that drop tuning to Eb is magic for string tension and playability. All my guitars are tuned down except the one I leave in open G and the one I use when I need to read charts.

Inspired by the faster strumming thread....

Long story short I started thinking about pick hand technique.  I expose almost no pick, pinky anchor, and use really heavy picks. Here's a pic of my pick grip:

Until the faster strumming thread came up I didn't really give this much thought at all. Never really noticed how little pick I use. I asked my bass player about it last night and he said he always thought it looked weird lol.

What's your technique?

I don't understand...are you asking for chord charts or tabulature?

New battery and heavier strings?

Hey to each their own. smile

Good point re: grip strength though. If you lock the muscles down its tough to move 'em.

Edit: for giggles I went and played a few notes then took a pic of my pick hand. I use WAAAAY less pick than I thought I did...less than either of the pictures above. Interesting.  I'll post em tomorrow from my computer.

I also use 1.5mm gators on my acoustic so if I whacked w that much pick I think the strings would go. No flex at all.

Your pick grip might be putting too much pick on the strings. Shouldn't be like this:

More like this:

also you shouldn't be muscling the strum with your elbow. Nice light snappy wrist motion.

No echo. Sounds good man. Stripped down. I like it.

Forgot to mention my favorite voicings. I love playing this in and out of solos:

Em7
x
12
12
12
x
x
---
A7
x
12
12
11
x
x

These are both rootless voicings, meaning I'm not playing the root of the chord. I'm just playing the color tones and letting the bass handle the root. However the reason I love these voicings is that they fall right in the middle of the E dorian scale starting on the 12th fret:

12 14 15
12 14 15
12 14 (throw in a 15 here for some funky time)
11 12 14
12 14 (16)
12 14  15

Scrap notation for now.  If she can strum, pick a simple song she  knows and likes and teach it to her by ear / shape.

Yes but then I couldn't be a fender through fender guy. *sniffle* sad

Plus I like having one amp that can go from solo practice to full band rehearsal to a gig....

One of the features that interested me in the VOX amp I have, is the ability to adjust the actual power output. That way, it can be run at full Volume and Master Volume to get the maximum benefit of the effects package, but at lower power and sound level my wife is less aggravated.

But ... everything changes when the house is empty!

I have a Fender DeVille 410 which is LOUD. But I use this little bugger in the effects loop, drive the preamp tubes up at 7-9, and then pull the output volume back down. That way you get nice hot tube sound without all the irritating hearing loss.

Totally worth $40.
