Bensonp, I had a two year sit down gig at a Mobile,Alabama bar when that Lobo song was popular.
You may think me henpecked but my wife asked me to change the lyric from "blue eyes" to "green eyes" because her eyes are green. I sang it her way and took a lot of heat from my audience and bandmates because they all knew the story.
It was more than worth it. We are still happily married after all these years.

Jerome nailed it. The Jets surprised me me by jumping on Indy early but our boy Peyton had something for 'em.
Must have been a cold day in hades because the Saints are going to the super bowl. As a fan since 1967, I feel vindicated. I'll never wear a bag over my head in the Superdome again.

Made it up to the woods near Little River Friday, to see my buddy on his birthday and pick a little guitar by the fireplace and eat some deer meat, onion rings and funnell cake.
The weather turned quite warm and my friend's son-in law got a huge deer the next morning. He told me about this video where the shoe got onto the other foot:

This is the first song that had me playing it on the back pickup of my old Gibson.

The backup band never quite knew what Chuck Berry was going to do onstage - or what key he might decide to do a song in.

Every geographic location has it's list of local favorites. Hanging out a jam sessions and open mikes will give you an idea what the locals like to play. I could make a list of South Alabama faves and half of them you may know.
As Zurf stated, some songs are known world wide.
I played a country song at a pub in Kinsale, Ireland, titled "Friends in Low places" by Garth Brooks. I did not know Garth Brooks was touring Ireland at that time. Every Irishman and woman in the joint knew all the lyrics and sang along with great gusto. What a happy surprise that was.Around here, most guitar players know "Wildwood Flower" by the Carter Family,"Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynard Skynard,"Walk Don't Run' and "Pipeline" by the Ventures, "Knocking on Heaven's Door' by Bob Dylan, "Can't You See" by Marshall tucker - just to name a few.

Zurf, They sent me a MIDISPORT 2x2, a 2-in/2-out MIDI interface. I have yet to figure it out but will give you a holler when and if I do. It appears to be only able to hook up Casey's keyboard. There is no input for a mike or guitar. mad

Matt Dylan's got a great voice for country music - deep, resonant, and with a cutting edge.
Pretty good chicken pickin' on the Telecaster too.
I met my wife when I was stationed in Carolina. I always liked the way she drove a car - a real leadfoot.
Her dad drank moonshine untill it killed him.

Hi Gil,
A most enjoyable recording. Good job by all.
You sounded a bit like Neil Young on the lead vocal. Was that your intent?

The advisor a Musician's Friend warned me to record only one track at a time so volume may be adjusted and the track individually blended into the mix.
Zurf, my order should arrive very soon. I will try the components out and will report to you how or if the stuff works.

Back in the 70's Freddy Fender got huge around here with his "Before the Last teardrop Falls".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fQpOZGMct4
He sang one verse in Spanish. Back in those days with no Google or U-Tube we had to buy the 45 RPM record and stick our ear into the stereo and wear that record out repeating until we phonetically skulled out the strange Spanish lyrics.
I took a lot of time with this song because I speak no Spanish and had not a clue what the words meant. The manager of the beer joint where we played asked some Mexican customers if my version of the Spanish verse was accurate or was I full of beans. The Mexicans said they could understand me fine and that I got it right. Made me very happy.
Did the same for "La Bamba" by Ritchie Vallens.

In 1969, I pounced on this song when it first came out. It was fun to sing and the young 'uns would pack the dance floor every time we did it.

Casey and I thank you all for your comments.
Lena, Casey is eight since August 13th and is a straight A student in the third grade.
I ordered him a MIDI cable to plug his Casio keyboard into his computer because he wants to make his own music for his videos. While I was at it I ordered a USB adapter to plug a mike and guitar into his computer as well.
Home studio, yea - this is gonna be fun.
Now I plan to buy Cakewalk and Magix software.

Our cold weather we have this far south may seem wimpy to you hearty northerners but 12 straight days of hard freezes has killed hundreds of fish around my houseboat in Fly Creek and 100 brown pelicans who lived on an island six miles out in the Gulf. No absolute records for low temperatures but the length of the cold spell is proving to be deadly for our wildlife.

It's a pretty straightforward country song in A.
It starts in A to A7, D then A . It has a D minor after D here and there. Listen for it.
The bridge turnaround goes: A, F# , B, E, A, D, A.

Fear not, Wayne, run over a few of your best tunes that you know well before you leave the house. Keep it simple and basic at first and when you fell the energy and encouragement from the audience and the other players, get brave and try some of your more sophisticated tunes. Tiptoe at first and then get rolling. It's gonna be big fun.

Chordians outside the U.S.A. may not be familiar with Jimmy Buffet. He is a huge star in the tropical rock scene.
In the late 60's he was not yet a national superstar but we Alabamians knew of him.
In 1969 I was a trumpeter at a rehearsal of the University of South Alabama stage (jazz) band. I was seated in my usual chair at the left end of the trumpet section. Jimmy Buffet walked into the band room and took a seat next to me on my left. He had a fine Gibson acoustic guitar and did not take time to tune.
I recognised him but nobody said anything about him. He opened the guitar music folder and played the guitar lines along with us perfectly. He must have been sight reading but I didn't hear him miss a lick playing complex jazz chords. At rehearsal's end he smiled and waved goodbye and left.
