Jim ........... I couldn't find your version on your page, have you deleted it?

Phill ..... loved it, once again you nailed this song in every way, you have a great talent vocally and musically.  Jim,  your song writing skill as I have said so many times are fantastic.  You two are a great team together.

Bill .............haha true that , never thought of it like that before ........... this is one song we perform at the Rest homes and Retirement Villages ........ now every time i sing that song, i am gonna be thinking of what you said lol

Only two starters ?

Found this tonight ..... Pink performing Bobby McGee  ...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwmUMvhy-lY

Peatle .............. great to hear you and easybeat getting together and having a go at this song, well done to both of you and i liked your take on it smile

mekidsmom ............. enjoyed it the first time i heard you  guys do this song and I enjoyed listening to it again.  I would absolutely love to hear you perform this one again with just you covering it ..... you can so nail this song!  smile

BGD .....Good question!  I personally would have thought this competition was about doing Chris Cornell songs, his originals .... and that is him doing a cover of a Bob Marley song ......... however it is up to you to decide what you want to do ..... smile

TF .... well written, from the heart.

Would YOU like to be the one to pick the song of the month for July?

Then just enter your name in this thread for a chance to WIN your choice of song!
No need to pick the song yet!
Simply reply to this thread with something interesting that indicates your desire!
Examples: "PICK ME!  PICK ME!"
"I want to pick the song"
" Drop my name in the hat please!."
*or whatever imaginable thing you can add that also includes something that makes it clear that you want a chance to choose the next FSOTM!

But remember, NO need to pick the song yet! That will be chosen later in the month.

Everyone that posts in this thread indicating their desire to pick the FSOTM will have their name "placed in a hat" and TWO PEOPLE, yes TWO names will be randomly chosen.  If you are chosen, you then get to choose the song of the month!  The two winners will be chosen and their names posted in this thread towards the end of July.  The winners must submit ONE SONG EACH of their choice for the song of the month by the end of the Month.

So, what are you waiting for?  READY?  SET?  GO!

Wow June already!.  For this month`s FSOTM we have 2 songs we are looking for, one by a Female Artist and one by a Male Artist.
The chosen song for Female Artist was Janis Joplin -  Bobby McGee.
The chosen song for a Male Artist was Chris Cornell - Any Song Of His can be covered, so you can really go to town here, picking any song of his you would like!

FEMALE ARTIST
JANIS JOPLIN – BOBBY McGEE

From Wikipedia: Me and Bobby McGee" is a song written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster, originally performed by Roger Miller. Others performed the song later, including the Grateful Dead, Kristofferson himself,[1] Kenny Rogers and The First Edition, and most famously Janis Joplin, whose posthumously released version topped the U.S. singles chart in 1971, making the song the second posthumously released No. 1 single in U.S. chart history after "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding. Billboard ranked Joplin's version as the No. 11 song for 1971.

Joplin recorded the song for inclusion on her Pearl album only a few days before her death in October 1970. Studio musician Stephen Ryder manned the keyboard for that session, and famously "Got a little carried away." Kristofferson had sung the song for her, and singer Bob Neuwirth taught it to her. Kristofferson did not know she had recorded it until after her death. The first time he heard her recording of it was the day after she died.[3]Joplin's version topped the charts to become her only number one single and in 2004, her version of this song was ranked No. 148 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Whilst it is very hard to find any video footage of Janis Joplin singing this song, there are a few audio`s to listen, some with pictures of this talented singer.

MALE ARTIST
CHRIS CORNELL – ANY SONG OF HIS

From Wikipedia: Chris Cornell (born Christopher John Boyle; July 20, 1964 – May 18, 2017) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was best known as the lead vocalist for the rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave. Cornell was also known for his numerous solo works and soundtrack contributions since 1991, and as the founder and frontman for Temple of the Dog, the one-off tribute band dedicated to his late friend Andrew Wood.
Cornell is considered one of the chief architects of the 1990s grunge movement, and is well-known for his extensive catalog as a songwriter, his nearly four-octave vocal range, and his powerful vocal belting technique. He released four solo studio albums, Euphoria Morning (1999), Carry On (2007), Scream (2009), Higher Truth (2015), and the live album Songbook (2011). Cornell received a Golden Globe Award nomination for his song "The Keeper", which appeared in the 2011 film Machine Gun Preacher, and co-wrote and performed the theme song to the James Bond film Casino Royale (2006), "You Know My Name". His last solo release was the charity single "The Promise", written for the ending credits for the film of the same name. He was voted "Rock's Greatest Singer" by readers of Guitar World, ranked 4th in the list of "Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists" by Hit Parader, 9th in the list of "Best Lead Singers of All Time" by Rolling Stone, and 12th in MTV's "22 Greatest Voices in Music".
Across his entire catalog, Cornell has sold 14.8 million albums, 8.8 million digital songs, and 300 million on-demand audio streams in the U.S. alone,as well as over 30 million records worldwide as of 2017. He was nominated for 14 Grammy Awards and won twice.
Cornell was found dead of an apparent suicide in his Detroit hotel room early on the morning of May 18, 2017, shortly after performing at a Soundgarden concert the night before. He suffered from depression and substance abuse problems earlier in his life.

Ok, have fun everyone, looking forward to hearing your versions of these two songs.  Cover them however you want, you can try your best to imitate them or you can completely make them your own.
READY?    SET?    GO!!!!

Great Zurf, will look forward to hearing them.  I must admit, I did give Santa Monica a little bit of a go but didn't get very far with it.

OK ....  now to get the next lot up and running, sorry for the delay everyone getting the new ones up as its been a long weekend over here in NZ and we went away for the weekend.

Bill and Dondra,

I am so sorry to hear your sad news.  My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you both * Hugs *

Wow, only 3 entrants for Mays FSOTM and only 3 songs done.  Hope June`s FSOTM will be a bit more successful.

With that said, remember you can at any time still record these songs and put them up smile

Great thanks BGD, that helps us with a winning male vocalist for June`s FSOTM and yes it will any song of his as written  in the list above.

So with that and all votes in, the winning songs are:

Male vocalist =  Chris Cornell (any song of his can be covered)
Female vocalist = Janis Joplin`s Bobby McGee

New FSOTM Thread will be going up soon smile

Hey there again ....... needing to decide which of the MALE vocalist is the winning song.  Looks like we have 3 male vocalist that have 2 votes each ................ how about some one voting on one of them so we can get the next FSOTM up and running smile

Oh my! ................. I couldn't even pronounce what they were singing .... let alone keep up with what they were singing lol

Yep Strummerboy Bill and Doug_Smith ...................... it was done a year ago as I commented above smile   I think if we all just stop commenting on this thread, it will eventually fade away into some abyss, beyond our reach (or not) hopefully  smile

Thank you Zurf .... I am trying, just wish I got more time to practice it smile

Amritaspa, thank you, I did this song this time last year smile

TIg .....thank you .... I am not sure what your talking about here but I did do Ode to Billy Joe last year, it was the first FSOTM smile

Billy Joe Shaver .... I'm Gonna Live Forever ... 2 votes  (ahem,  already performed and up on sound cloud by one enthusiastic member ... now that`s either enthusiasm or jumping the gun wink

FEMALE:
Bonnie Rait  ..... Something to Talk About

zurf ..... Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin (or other artists) hasn`t been done on FSOTM.   From memory, MKM did this at one of the Chordie get togethers and she did a fantastic job of it too.  But it hasn`t been done as I said on FSOTM,  so yep it can be entered and voted on and I for one VOTE on it smile

Jim ..... a touching song, very appropriate too after what has happened.  Your gift with words shinning through once again.
