The only correct answer is "for the chicks", if anybody states otherwise, they're lyin' (cept' maybe those of the female persuasion of course)

Actually, my answer would be for the love of making music (and the chicks!)

^ HannahBeth - You are wiser beyond your years. Well said.

Another welcome to you T-Bird. Any friend of Cam's is a friend of mine.

Best of luck Butch. I can't imagine trying to learn to play left-handed, but others have done it with great success (SouthPaw for one)

Congrats Zurf! I wear a 38 also, but actually I am a 34. One day I tried on some 36's and they felt so good, I bought a bunch of 38's. big_smile

Welcome to chordie Jerry! We're a pretty friendly bunch around here and have all been (or are in) the same place as you as far as learning the guitar goes. Feel free to ask any question you might have and chime in on whatever subjects you'd like. Please read the sticky notes on top of several forums regarding posting rules, etc.

This kids heartfelt version of "Whiskey In The Jar" has left me slamming and belting it out every time I pick up my guitar for the past week or so. Play and sing it with feeling I say

Question: If you dropped substantial coin on a high end instrument, let's say $2,000+, would you be comfortable road tripping with it? Taking it on flights? Letting friends try it out?

I have no problem letting anybody play my $2,000+ CA. It's made from Carbon Fiber and is practically indestructible. And she sounds oh so sweet!

Boer - There appears to be a problem with the server - The head admin has been notified and hopefully this will be corrected soon.

^ What toots said - after a full year, your strings were likely dead anyway. On my everyday guitar, 6 weeks on a set of strings is about max. Change 'em regularly - it's like a new instrument every time!

Here's my EF508C - The first "real" guitar I bought after re-learning on my step-daughters beginner Yamaha. This guitar (bought used) was set up beautifully and allowed me to master barre chords in no time compared to the struggles I had with the beginner Yammie. My 19 yo son has adopted this guit, but I still play and enjoy it enormously.

Zurf - Quite a coincidence, Audrey and Beverly are both family names in my "tree". Aunt Audrey (my Mom's Aunt) and Cousin Beverly (Audrey's daughter) were / are both very musically talented. I'd bet that anyone who learned to play piano in the village of Amityville, NY from the 40's through the '60's spent some time on Aunt Audrey's bench.

What's the saying about the fruit (or nut in this case) not falling far from the tree? LOL -  busted me up too.

The storm is a good ways off the east coast of FLA and even all the way over here on the west coast we are experiencing outer bands of wind and rain. This storm is HUGE

I often wonder why REO Speedwagon and Gary Richrath get no respect in these lists - before REO became sissyfied, Gary wrote and jammed on many memorable rockin' tunes.

Wishing a speedy recovery to Mrs Buzzwagon and clean fretting to you Jerry. Looking forward to seeing the pics. I love my Tak, but my son loves it even more and I haven't played it in months.

Elixer makes a great set for a 5 string guitar. However if you have a G string and like to bang a guitar like I do, I'd suggest almost any other brand (John Pearse especially). I go through Elixer G strings like a Vegas dancer.
